Journal of Korean Academy of Fundamental Nursing 2022;29(3):316-325
This study investigated the effects of type D personality, depression and stress on quality of life in migraine patients and aimed to identify factors that affected their quality of life. Methods: In this descriptive study, the participants were 132 outpatients who were diagnosed with migraine at the Department of Neurology at J National University Hospital. The data were collected from June 20 to December 30, 2021, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, the independent t-test, the x2 test, one-way analysis of variance, the Scheffé test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression. Results: The factors affecting quality of life in migraine patients were found to be type D personality (β=.58 p<.001) and depression (β=-.30 p<.001), and the explanatory power of the model was 53.0% (F=22.07, p<.001). Conclusion: It is necessary to develop a strategy for improving the quality of life for migraine patients that would consist of first identifying patients with type D personality and then offering them an intervention that addresses both physical symptoms and psychological health issues, such as depression.

BACKGROUND: Stellate ganglion block, which is one of the effective therapeutic tools for treating herpes zoster has been advocated by many investigators. However its efficacy is controversial at present. OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted to examine the role of stellate ganglion block in the prevention of postherpetic neuralgia and relationships between the time of this treatment and the outbreak of postherpetic neuralgia. METHODS: Twenty patients over the age of fifty with herpes zoster were included in this study. Before treatment, we randomly divided patients into two groups, A and B. Group A was treated with stellate ganglion block and acyclovir and group B was treated with acyclovir alone. Also we subdivided each group by starting treatment time into group 1 and 2. Group 1 was defined as the patients who began treatment within 2 weeks of the onset of the skin lesion. We observed the severity of pain and the incidence of postherpetic neuralgia according to each group.

BACKGROUND: Surgical correction of the full spectrum of esophageal atresia with tracheoesophageal fistula has improved over the years, but the mortality and morbidity assoiated with repair of these anomalies still remains high. MATERIAL AND METHOD: We retrospectively analyzes 27 surgically treated patients with esophageal atresia and tracheoesophageal fistula at Dong-A University Hospital between January 1992 and March 1997. RESULT: There were 21 male and 6 female patients. Mean birth weight was 2.62+/-.385 kg(2.0~3.4 kg). Twenty- four(88.9%) had esophageal atresia with distal tracheoesophageal fistula, and 3(11.1%) had pure esophageal atresia. Four(14.8%) infants were allocated to Waterston risk group A, 18(66.7%) to group B, and 5(18.5%) to group C. In eighteen(66.7%) infants with associated anomalies, cardiovascular anomalies were the most common. Three had a gap length of 3.5 cm or greater(ultra-long gap) between esophageal segments, 7 had 2.0 to 3.5 cm(long gap), 8 had 1.0 to 2.0 cm(medium gap), and 9 had 1 cm or less(short gap) gap length. Among 27 neonates, 3 cases underwent staged operation, late colon interposition was done in 2, and all other 24 cases underwent primary esophageal anastomosis. Oerative mortality was 2/27(7.4%). Causes of death included acute renal failure(n=1), empyema from anastomotic leak(n=1), necrotizing enterocolitis(n=1), sepsis(n=1), insulin-dependent diabetus mellitus(n=1 . There were 4 anastomosis- related complications including stricture in 3, leakage in 1. Mortality was related to the gap length(p<.05). CONCLUSION: Although the complication rate associated with surgical repair of these anomalies is high, this does not always implicate the operative mortality. The overall survival can be improved by effective treatment for combined anomalies and intensive postoperatve care.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1980;18(2):149-153
The nail-patella syndrome is a genetically determined autosomal dominant disease with variabIe expression affectiag tissues of both ectodermal and mesodermal origin. The condition in an individual is characterized chiefly by dysplasia of the fingernails, hypoplastic or absent patellae, deformities or luxation af the head of the radius, and the presence of illiac horns. It is now well established that the locus for the nail-patella syndrome and the locus for the ABO blood groups are closely linked. We report 2 cases of nail-patella syndrome affected a brother and a sister in a family. Our 2 cases, with blood group B, showed dystrophic nails and hypoplastir. patellae.

Korean Journal of Urology 2004;45(4):299-302
PURPOSE: The role of [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) in renal cell carcinoma remains to be clearly defined. The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of FDG-PET to detect renal cell carcinomas and a distant metastatic disease were compared with other established imaging modalities, including computerized tomography (CT), chest PA and bone scan. MATERIALS AND METHODS: FDG-PET and conventional imaging techniques, including CT, chest PA and bone scan, were performed in 43 patients with primary renal tumors and/or metastatic diseases. Radical nephrectomy and metastatectomy were then performed. The results of FDG-PET were compared with the conventional imaging techniques and postoperative histopathological diagnoses. RESULTS: The postoperative histopathological diagnoses of the 43 patients were renal cell carcinomas in 41 and benign renal tumors in 2. The results of FDG-PET were true positive, equivocal and false negative in 26, 8 and 9 of the 41 patients with renal cell carcinomas, respectively. The results of the CT were true positive in all patients. The results of FDG-PET were true negative in 2 patients, but those of CT were false positive in 2 patients with benign renal leiomyoma and angiomyolipoma. Therefore, FDG-PET was less sensitive, but more specific and accurate, than CT for the evaluation of primary renal tumors. CT was false positive for retroperitoneal lymph node metastasis and at the ascending colon in each of 1 patient, but FDG-PET was true negative. FDG-PET detected unsuspected pulmonary metastatic diseases that were not detected on chest PA in 4 patients. FDG-PET was more sensitive, specific and accurate than CT in the evaluation of metastasis. CONCLUSIONS: FDG-PET was complementary to conventional imaging in the initial staging of renal cell carcinomas, but superior in evaluating the metastasis.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1985;21(5):819-825
The authors analyzed ultrasonographic findings of 112 cases of trophoblastic disases which were confirmed byD&E or hysterectomy at Wallace Memorial Baptist Hospital from September 1980 to December 1984. The results were asfollows; 1. Of all 112 cases, hydatidiform moles were 99 cases, invasive moles were 3 cases and choriocarcinomas were 10 cases. 2. 81 cases (72%) occurred in 3rd decades. 3. The sized of uterus was large for gestational weeksin 65 cases(56%) and smaller in 13 cases(13%). 4. The contour of uterus was globular in 59 cases(53%), diffuse in49 cases(44%) and nodular in 4 cases(3%). 5. The internal echopatterns of uterus revealed numerous small vesicular snowstorm patterns in all cases, and revealed internal degeneration in 67 cases(60%). 6. Uterine walls in 89 cases(79%) were well delineated but uterine walls in 23 cases(21%) were poor delineated. 7. Multiseptated ovarian thecalutein cysts were seen in 36 cases (32%). 8. Invasive trophoblastic disease(invasive moles 3 cases andchoriocarcinomas 10 cases) revealed similiar ultrasonographic findings with H-mole, but more irregular internalechoes and irregular echoes in uterine wall. 9. Diagnostic accuracy was diagnostic in 98 cases (88%) , nonspecificin 11 cases (10%) and error in 3 cases(2%).
