Chinese journal of integrative medicine 2024;30(11):1045-1055
Prostate cancer is a prevalent and debilitating disease that necessitates effective prevention and treatment strategies. Green tea, a well-known beverage derived from the Camellia sinensis plant, contains bioactive compounds with potential health benefits, including catechins and polyphenols. This comprehensive review aims to explore the potential benefits of green tea in prostate cancer prevention and treatment by examining existing literature. Green tea possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-carcinogenic properties attributed to its catechins, particularly epigallocatechin gallate. Epidemiological studies have reported an inverse association between green tea consumption and prostate cancer risk, with potential protection against aggressive forms of the disease. Laboratory studies demonstrate that green tea components inhibit tumor growth, induce apoptosis, and modulate signaling pathways critical to prostate cancer development and progression. Clinical trials and human studies further support the potential benefits of green tea. Green tea consumption has been found to be associated with a reduction in prostate-specific antigen levels, tumor markers, and played a potential role in slowing disease progression. However, challenges remain, including optimal dosage determination, formulation standardization, and conducting large-scale, long-term clinical trials. The review suggests future research should focus on combinatorial approaches with conventional therapies and personalized medicine strategies to identify patient subgroups most likely to benefit from green tea interventions.

Chinese Journal of Pathology 2022;51(9):838-842
Objective: To investigate the expression of Ki-67 and CD34 in the differential diagnosis of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) and DCIS-like invasive breast cancer (DLIBC). Methods: A total of 100 cases of DCIS and 150 cases of DLIBC diagnosed pathologically in Yantai Yuhuangding Hospital from January 2019 to March 2022 were collected. The expression of p63, CK5/6, Ki-67 and CD34 in both groups were detected by immunohistochemical (IHC) staining and evaluated. Results: The 100 cases of DCIS included 11 cases of low-grade DCIS, 28 cases of intermediate-grade DCIS and 61 cases of high-grade DCIS. IHC staining of p63 and CK5/6 showed the myoepithelial cells around cancerous duct were complete or partial absence. Ki-67 expression showed two patterns: high expression in the basal layers and scattered expression within the tumor. Most cases showed mainly high basal expression (77/100, 77%), and the proportion of this pattern was significantly different between low grade and high grade DCIS (P<0.05). All cases showed complete CD34 expression surrounding the cancerous duct with different proportion (vascular necklace) suggested small vessels proliferation. The 150 cases of DLIBC included 142 cases of invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) (three cases of basal-like breast cancer was included), two cases of secretory carcinoma, three cases of solid papillary carcinoma, two cases of adenoid cystic carcinoma and one case of acinar cell carcinoma. Among 142 cases of IDC, 13 cases were grade Ⅰ, 77 were grade Ⅱ and 52 were grade Ⅲ. IHC staining of p63 showed complete absence of myoepithelium. CK5/6 was negative in most cases and only positively expressed within the tumor in 3 cases of basal-like breast cancer. Ki-67 indicated a scattered expression pattern within the tumor. In most cases, CD34 immunostaining showed scattered positive blood vessels within the tumor while only two cases showed incomplete expression of CD34 around the tumor (2/150, 1.3%). The different expression patterns of Ki-67 and CD34 in DCIS and DLIBC was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusions: The different expression patterns of Ki-67 and CD34 are helpful to distinguish DLIBC from DCIS. The appearance of "vascular necklace" with CD34 and the high expression of Ki-67 around the cancerous duct highly support the diagnosis of DCIS, and the scattered expression pattern of CD34 supports DLIBC.

【Objective】 To investigate the mechanism of atorvastatin improving ventricular remodeling in rats with myocardial infarction. 【Methods】 Ligation of left anterior descending coronary artery was performed to establish rat model of myocardial infarction. Thirty rats were divided into sham group(n=10), myocardial infarction group(n=10) and atorvastatin group(n=10). Echocardiography was used to examine cardiac function and left ventricular mass index(LVMI) was calculated. The content of arginine vasopressin(AVP) in left ventricular non-infarct area and serum was measured by ELISA. Masson staining was used to observed interstitial fibrosis of myocardium. Immunohistochemistry was used to measure the expression of type Ⅰ collagen. The protein expression of transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1) was detected by western blot. 【Results】 After 5 weeks, the number of rats in sham group, myocardial infarction group and atorvastatin group was 10, 9 and 10, respectively. Compared with sham group, LVEF was significantly decreased and, LVMI, interstitial fibrosis, the content of AVP, the expression of type Ⅰ collagen and TGF-β1 in the left ventricular non-infarct area were significantly increased in myocardial infarction group and atorvastatin group(P<0.05). Atorvastatin significantly increased LVEF and decreased interstitial fibrosis, the content of AVP, the expression of type Ⅰ collagen and TGF-β1 in the left ventricular non-infarct area(P<0.05) . 【Conclusion】 Atorvastatin could ameliorate ventricular remodeling in rats with myocardial infarction, which might be associated with inhibiting the expression of AVP and TGF-β1.

BACKGROUND: Interbody fusion is an effective approach in the spinal surgery which is traditionally performed via auto/allogenic bone grafting, and it has a number of shortcomings as well as specific therapeutic effects. In the past few years, polymer interbody fusion cages have been gradually applied in clinical practice, which provides more options for spinal surgeons. OBJECTIVE: To introduce the advantages and disadvantages of degradable/non-degradable polymer materials respectively by analyzing their materialogy characteristics, and to further predict their application prospects. METHODS: PubMed, Ovid and CNKI were searched by computer to retrieve articles concerning the materialogy characteristics and application situation of common biomedical polymer materials in the spinal surgery. The key words were "spinal surgery, fusion cage, engineering plastic, degradable high polymer material" in Chinese and English, respectively. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Up to now, a variety of polymer materials, especially degradable polymer materials, are still at the stage of exploring and primary research, and their in-depth studies, including animal and biomechanics experiments, are still expected to be done gradually. Except for PEEK interbody fusion cages, some polymer materials are still lack of large sample and multi-center clinical trials before further application.
