OBJECTIVETo compare the efficacy differences on delayed encephalopathy after carbon monoxide poisoning (DEACMP) between acupuncture to restore consciousness combined with hyperbaric oxygen treatment and simple hyperbaric oxygen treatment.

METHODSForty-one patients with DEACMP were randomly divided into an observation group (21 cases) and a control group (20 cases). In the observation group, acupuncture was applied at Neiguan (PC 6), Shuigou (GV 26), Baihui (GV 20), Sishencong (EX-HN 1), Fengchi (GB 20), Hegu (LI 4), Sanyinjiao (SP 6) and Taichong (LR 3), and hyperbaric oxygen treatment was given as well. In the control group, simple hyperbaric oxygen treatment was used. The treatment was adopted once every day, and continuous 5 days' treatment made one session in the two groups. There were two days at the interval between two sessions and 6 sessions in the two groups. The changes of scores of mini mental state examination (MMSE) and Barthel index (BI) for activity of daily life and routine electroencephalogram (EEG) before and after treatment were compared.

RESULTSAfter treatment, the scores of MMSE and BI and EEG were all improved compared with those before treatment (all P<0.01). The raise of the scores of MMSE and BI in the observation group was more obvious than that in the control group (both P<0.05) and the improvement of EEG abnormal condition in the observation group was also superior to that in the control group after treatment (P<0.05).

CONCLUSIONAcupuncture to restore consciousness combined with hyperbaric oxygen could obviously improve the cognitive function, activity of daily life and changes of EEG, and it is better than simple hyperbaric oxygen treatment.

BACKGROUND:Interproximal contact loss is a complication of posterior crown/bridge restorations with a higher incidence, and it is induced by a variety of factors, such as age, tooth position, occlusal contact, tooth loss time, whether there is a repair on the free end.OBJECTIVE:To study and analyze the loss of interproximal contact between posterior crown/bridge restorations and adjacent teeth.METHODS: This was a single-center, prospective, observational clinical trial which has been completed at the Stomatology Hospital Affiliated to Southwest Medical University, China. Totaly 82 patients who had underwent posterior crown/bridge restorations from June 2015 to June 2016 in the Stomatology Hospital Affiliated to Southwest Medical University were selected. The time of denture wearing was 1-40 months, and the interproximal contact loss was defined by a 30 μm adjacent contact check or a flossing that can pass through the detection area with no resistance. Single-factor analysis and multiple correlation analysis were performed to analyze the interproximal contact loss at 1, 3, 6 months after posterior crown/bridge restorations. The study protocol was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Stomatology Hospital Affiliated to Southwest Medical University of China with an approval number of 2016024. All protocols were in accordance with Declaration of Helsinki, formulated by the World Medical Association. All patients and their relatives were informed of study protocols and provided a written informed consent prior to the beginning of the trial.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Of the 82 patients enroled, there were 41 adjacent contact zones with the emergency of interproximal contact loss, including 20 maxillary and 21 mandibular. It indicated that the interproximal contact loss had no association with the upper and lower jaw. Single-factor analysis showed that the time of denture wearing, tooth loss time and repair of the free end were confirmed as independent influencing factors for the complications (P < 0.05). Multiple correlation analysis found that free end repair and short-term tooth loss were independent factors of the interproximal contact loss. To conclude, free end repair and tooth loss time should be considered in the posterior crown/bridge restorations in order to minimize the occurrence of interproximal contact loss.

Objective To evaluate the changes in natural Killer (NK) cell subsets definetd by CD11b and CD27 in the spleen of septic mice.Methods A total of 168 pathogen-free healthy male C57BL/6 mice,weighing 20-30 g,aged 8-10 weeks,were divided into 2 groups (n=84 cach) using a random number table:sham operation group (Sham group) and sepsis group (Sep group).Sepsis was induced by cecal ligation and puncture in chloral hydrate-anesthetized mice.Thirty mice in each group were selected to assess the survival within 4 days after operation,and the survival rate was calculated.At 2,4,6,24,48 and 72 h after operation (T1-6),6 mice were randomly selected,and blood samples were taken from the eyeballs for determination of serum tumor necrosis factor-alpha and interleukin-10 concentrations by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.Six mice were randomly selected at T4-6 and sacrificed,and the spleens were removed for measurement of the percentage of NK cells and their subsets by flow cytometry.Results Compared with Sham group,the survival rate was significantly decreased at different time points,the serum necrosis factor-alpha concentration at T1-3,6 and serum interleukin-10 concentration at T3-6 were increased,the percentage of NK cells was decreased at T4-6,the percentage of CD27-CD11b+NK cells was decreased and the percentage of CD27+CD11b+ and CD27+CD11b-NK cells was increased at T5,the percentage of CD27-CD11b-NK ceils was decreased at T4,5,and the percentage of CD27-CD11b-NK cells was increased at T6 in Sep group (P＜0.05).Conclusion Changes in NK cell subsets defined by CD11b and CD27 in the spleen play an important role in the development of sepsis in mice.

AIM: To explore the differences of anterior segment parameters in the patients with fellow eyes of unilateral acute angle-closure glaucoma ( AACG ) , primary angle-closure suspects ( PACS) and normal group.
METHODS: Twenty-six eyes of 26 patients with fellow eyes of AACG, 28 eyes of 28 age- and gender-matched PACS and 34 normal eyes were imaged using optical coherence tomography ( OCT) and pentacam scheimpflug system ( Pentacam ) . Anatomical parameters including central corneal thickness ( CCT ) , corneal volume ( CV ) , pupillary diameter ( PD ) , central anterior chamber depth ( CACD ) , peripheral anterior chamber depth ( PACD ) , anterior chamber volume ( ACV ) and anterior chamber angle ( ACA) were obtained from Pentacam. Iris thickness (IT750,IT2000), cross-sectional area (IS), volume (IV) and angle opening distance 500 (AOD500) were estimated using OCT combined with a computer image processing. Statistic analysis was performed with SPSS.
RESULTS: There were no significant differences in corneal parameters (CCT, CV), PD and iris values (IT750, IT2000, IS, IV) among the three groups (P> 0. 05). Compared with the fellow eyes of AACG and PACS, normal eyes had larger ACV, wider AOD500 and ACA, deeper CACD and PACD ( P < 0. 05 ). No anatomical difference was observed between the fellow eyes of AACG and PACS (P>0. 05). Using the fellow eyes of AACG as the standard to predict high risk of angle closure, areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve of the above parameters were all less than 0. 7.
CONCLUSION:All the anterior segment parameters are no different significantly between the fellow eyes of AACG and PACS. They may be notaccurate criteria for determining high risk group of PACS.

AIM: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of macular ganglion cell - inner plexiform layer ( GCIPL ) measurements using high- definition optical coherence tomography ( Cirrus HD - OCT ) ganglion cell analysis algorithm for detecting early and moderate to severe glaucoma.
METHODS:Twenty normal control persons, 26 patients with early glaucoma and 29 patients with moderate to severe glaucoma were enrolled in this study. Macular GCIPL, optic nerve head ( ONH ) parameters and peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer ( RNFL ) thickness were measured in each subject. Then all measured results of each parameter were calculated using SPSS17. 0. Areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves ( AUC) of each parameter were calculated to compare the diagnostic accuracy for detecting early and moderate to severe glaucoma.
RESULTS: For detecting early glaucoma, AUC of average RNFL and seven clock value of RNFL were the biggest ( 0. 871 and 0. 896 respectively ), the AUC of parameters in GCIPL were also significant, among them,
the average GCIPL showed bigger AUC(0. 847) than the minimum GCIPL (0. 812). For diagnosing moderate to severe glaucoma, the AUC of rim area was 0. 992, which was bigger than that of average RNFL ( 0. 991 ). The minimum GCIPL showed bigger AUC ( 0. 983 ) than the average GCIPL (0. 967). For early glaucoma diagnosis, the sensitivity of average RNFL was the highest (76. 9%), while the average GCIPL has the highest specificity (93. 5%).
CONCLUSION: AS a new diagnostic parameter for detecting glaucoma, GCIPL shows similar diagnostic potential compared with RNFL. For early glaucoma diagnosis, average RNFL is the most important parameter, while screening early glaucoma, average GCIPL should be paid more attention.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) in the process of corticosterone (CS) reduction in nephrotic syndrome. Methods: One hundred and twenty patients of idiopathic nephrotic syndrome sensitive to prednisone treatment were divided into two groups randomly. The dosage of prednisone used was conventionally reduced in both groups but CHM herbal treatment was added to the treated group in the period of prednisone reduction. The effect of CHM was estimated by observing the recurrence rate of disease and side-effects of prednisone. Results: The recurrence rate of disease and the occurrence rate of side-effects of prednisone in the treated group were less than those in the control group significantly (P<0.01). Conclusion: Additional CHM in the process of CS reduction in treating CS sensitive nephrotic syndrome could markedly abate the recurrence rate of disease and the side-effect of CS reduction.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the relationship of Chinese medicine syndrome pattern with urinary albumin excretion rate (UAER) and its related factors in patients with diabetic nephropathy (DN).

METHODSSixty-three early stage DN patients were subjected to the study, the Chinese medicine syndrome patterns were differentiated, and their condition of methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) C677T mutation was detected (shown by gene polymorphism of 677 base pairs). Meantime, plasma levels of homocysteine (Hcy), folic acid, fasting and postprandial glucose (FG and PG), glycohemoglobin (HbA1c), blood lipids as well as UAER were measured.

RESULTSSyndrome pattern was differentiated as yin-deficiency with heat-flourishing in 17 patients, qi-yin deficiency in 24, and yin-yang deficiency in 22; while accompanied blood stasis syndrome (BSS) was found in 35. Gene polymorphism detection indicated that 19 patients were of CC-type, 17 of TT-type, and 27 of CT-type. Analysis showed that higher UAER level often revealed in patients with BSS, as compared with that in patients of non-BS pattern, the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). UAER levels in patients of different genotypes were insignificantly different (P > 0.05), but showed a linear regressive relation, namely positively correlated with Hcy level in patients of isogeneic type (r = 0.674, P < 0.05). No statistical significance was found between levels of UAER and other related factors (P > 0.05).

CONCLUSIONUAER level in early stage DN patients of BSS pattern is rather higher, and it shows a linear regression relationship (positive correlation) with Hcy level in patients of isogeneic type.

MASP3 is one of the mannan-binding lectin-associated serine proteases(MASPs)of the complement lectin pathway.It is the alternative splice product of MASP1/3 gene.MASP3 does not participate in the activation of the lectin pathway and it has no cleavage activity towards C2,C4 and C3.Recently,a novel MASP3 function has been discovered that it may play an important role in the alternative pathway through direct activation of factor D.Besides,studies on the murine disease model suggested that MASP3 might be a new therapeutic target for the treatment of alternative pathway-mediated diseases.This review present an overall description of the coding gene and protein structure of MASP3 protein and provide recent research progress on its function and especially in its role in the alternative pathway-mediated diseases.

This study aims to construct the recombinant lentivirus vector containing specific small interfering RNA (siRNA) targeting rat CREB binding protein(CBP)gene and to identify its function of inhibiting the expressions of acetylated histone in primarily cultured hippocampal neurons. Firstly, we constructed four kinds of recombinant lentivirus siCBP. And then we used them to infect the primarily cultured hippocampal neurons, and performed real-time PCR, western blot respectively to detect the expressions of CBP. Afterwards, the most effective lentivirus siCBP was used to infect the primarily cultured hippocampal neurons, and then the HAT activity and protein expressions of acetylated histone Ac-H3, Ac-H4 of the neurons were examined. By using PCR, endonuclease cutting and gene sequencing, we confirmed that the target genes were correctly cloned in lentivirus vector. Besides, CBP mRNA and protein expressions in neurons were found to be with varying degrees of decreases after infections of the four kinds of lentivirus siCBP. Furthermore, the representative and most effective lentivirus GR806 could effectively inhibit the HAT activity and the protein expressions of Ac-H3, Ac-H4 in neurons. It provides the experimental basis for the subsequent application of siCBP to clarify the effects and corresponding molecular mechanism of the CBP-dependent histone acetylation on learning and memory function in hippocampus.
