Objective To explore the gene expression of human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT)in childhood acute non- lymphocytic leukemia (ANLL) and its clinical implication. Methods Expression of hTERT mRNA was detected in HL - 60 leukemia cell line, 14 ANLL children and 11 healthy children by reverse transcriptase- polymerase chain reaction (RT- PCR). Results hTERT gene was expressed in HL-60 cell line, ANLL children (11/14) and healthy children (2/11). The expression of hTERT gene was observed in all subtypes of ANLL. Furthermore, there were statistically significant differences in expression levels of hTERT gene between children with ANLL and healthy children (t = 5.034 P = 0). Conclusions The up - regulation of gene expression of hTERT may play a very important role in the progression of children ANLL. The detection of hTERT expression may be a useful additional method for monitoring the state of illness.

OBJECTIVE:
To introduce the efficacy of three surgical options for juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA) resection, and causes of operative bleeding.
METHOD:
Retrospective analysis of 36 JNAs,three surgical options were used to resect the tumor. There were 15 cases of Class I tumors , using endoscopic nasal cavity approach. Eighteen cases of class II tumors, via extended Caldwell-Luk incision, using the transantral-infratemporal fosse-nasal cavity combined approach for tumor resection. Three cases of class III tumors, the combined intracranial and extra-cranial approach was used to resect the tumor. Meanwhile, report six typical cases for reference.
RESULT:
Fifteen (15/36) cases of class I tumors, 14 cases were completely resected for the first time without recurrence, 1 recurrence case was re-resected using the same approach. Eighteen (18/36) cases of class II tumors, 13 cases were completely resected for the first time without recurrence, 5 recurrence cases were re-resected totally. Three (3/36) cases of class III were not completely removed, and underwent about 40 Gy radiotherapy with good effects.
CONCLUSION
Using these three surgical options can effectively remove different types of JNA. When necessary, the intracranial residue can use radiotherapy. Under direct vision to separate the tumor, and effective hemostasis play crucial roles for complete removal of the tumor.

Chinese Journal of Oncology 2011;33(6):465-469
OBJECTIVETo explore the value of BI-RADS ultrasonic scores of direct and indirect ultrasonographic signs in diagnosis of solid breast lesions.
METHODSReference to the standard BI-RADS score, ultrasonic scores of direct and indirect ultrasonographic signs of 132 solid breast lesions were assigned, and were compared with pathological results.
RESULTSBy the direct signs of breast lesions (aspect ratio, shape, border, internal echo, posterior echo, flow grade, sand-like calcification) and indirect signs (changes in local skin thickness, Cooper ligament changes, axillary lymph nodes, depth of reinforcement membrane changes, mass changes in the surrounding burr), the integral from the total scores in benign and malignant breast masses showed a statistically significant difference. The total score of malignant lesions (8.94 ± 2.85) was significantly higher than that of benign tumors (3.09 ± 1.97, P < 0.05). Except skin thickness, all the remaining scores of the signs of benign and malignant breast tumors showed a significant difference between the two groups (P < 0.05). By receiver operating curve (ROC) analysis, the best critical value of the total score of direct signs was ≥ 4, with a sensitivity and specificity of 0.84 and 0.93, respectively, in distinguishing breast carcinoma from benign lesions. The best critical value of the total score of indirect signs was ≥ 1, with a sensitivity and specificity of 0.82 and 0.74, respectively. The critical value of the combination of the direct and indirect signs was ≥ 5 in differential diagnosis of malignant and benign lesions, with a sensitivity and specificity value of 0.88 and 0.90, respectively.
CONCLUSIONThe assignment score to the ultrasound characteristics of the direct and indirect signs of solid breast lesions can make a more objective diagnosis, yet it is a simple, effective, comprehensive and semi-quantitative analysis method.

Journal of Experimental Hematology 2005;13(3):503-504
To investigate the chemosensitizing effect of pyrroledithiocarbomate (PDTC) on daunorubicin in drug-resistant leukemic cells in vitro, MTT method was used to observe the changes of the proliferation of intractable leukemia MNC treated with daunorubicin (30 microg/ml) combined with PDTC (25, 50 or 100 micromol/L). The results showed that inhibiting rate of daunorubicin combined with PDTC(25, 50 or 100 micromol/L) on drug-resistant leukemic cells was significantly higher than that of daunorubicin alone (P < 0.05). Among the three different doses of PDTC, the concentration of 50 micromol/L of PDTC inhibited the proliferation of drug-resistant leukemic cells significantly. In conclusion, PDTC can sensitize anti-tumor effect of daunorubicin in vitro. The concentration of 50 micromol/L of PDTC has stronger chemosensitizing effect on daunorubicin than that of the other concentrations of PDTC (25 micromol/L or 100 micromol/L) in vitro.

Chinese Journal of Epidemiology 2004;25(4):288-291
OBJECTIVETo understand the prevalence and risk factors for suicidal ideation among college students and to provide a scientific basis for promoting psychological health and suicide prevention.
METHODS623 college students at Central South University were selected using stratified cluster sampling and administered a suicide ideation questionnaire, a Symptom Check List (SCL-90), an Adolescent Self-Rating Life Events Check List (ASLEC), a Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS) and a questionnaire about background information. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was employed to identify risk factors for suicide ideation.
RESULTSOne year prior to our investigation, 14.6% of respondents had suicide ideation, 2.5% had made a specific suicide plan, and 1.8% had made a suicide attempt. The main risk factors for suicide ideation were dissatisfaction with the selected major of study, limited social support, recent negative life events and depressive tendency.
CONCLUSIONSThe prevalence of suicide ideation among these college students was high. Appropriate measures focusing on the risk factors identified in this study should be urgently developed to prevent suicides in college students.

This study was purpose to establish the transgenic mouse models of the truncated platelet integrin β3 by retrovirus-infected hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) transplantation and to provide the basis for further study of the role of integrin β3 cytoplasmic domain in platelet bi-directional signaling pathways. Wild-type β3, β3-Δ759 (R(760) GT(762) truncated β3) and β3-Δ754 (T(755) NITYRGT(762) truncated β3) cDNAs were subcloned into MSCV MigR1 retroviral vector bearing a GFP gene and packaged into infective retrovirus with BOSC23 cell strain. The bone marrow HSCs of the β3 deficient mice were infected by the retroviruses, and transplanted into lethally-irradiated wild type C57BL/6 mice. GFP positive rate and surface β3 expression of the recipients' platelets at 6 to 8 weeks after transplantation were detected by flow cytometry to evaluate the transgenic efficiency. The results showed that four kinds of transgenic mouse models including vector, wild-type β3, β3-Δ759 and β3-Δ754 were established successfully. GFP positive rates of transgenic mouse platelets ranged from 18% to 66% and the β3 expression of transgenic mouse reached heterozygote (β3(+/-) level of mouse). It is concluded that establishment of transgenic mouse models mediated by retrovirus-infected HSCs transplantation is a feasible, fast, and high throughput transgenic approach and laid a solid foundation for further research on the role of integrin β3 cytoplasmic domain for bi-directional signaling of platelets in vivo, and for the gene therapy of platelet disorders.
