2.Application of color Doppler ultrasonography in treating ischemic optic neuropathy with extraocular counterpulsation
Chinese Journal of Medical Ultrasound (Electronic Edition) 2008;5(2):261-266
Objective To evaluate the influence of extraocular counterpulsation on ocular fundus blood vessels using high-frequency color Doppler ultrasonography. Methods Twenty-one patients with ischemic optic neuropathy were treated with extraocular counterpulsation. During treatment, the Doppler spectra were detected with high-frequency color Doppler ultrasonography. The peak systolic velocity (PSV), end diastolic velocity (EDV) and resistance retinal index (RI) of central retinal artery and posterior ciliary artery were measured instantly before treatment and 1 min,5 min and 15 min after treatment. Results The instant PSV and EDV of central retinal artery and posterior ciliary artery were significantly increased (P<0.05) after treatment, then decreased gradually. Fifteen min after treatment ,they returned to the level before treatment. Conclusions We can observe the changes of ocular fundus blood vessels noninvasively on high-frequency color Doppler ultrasonography. The method may be regarded as one of the basis for evaluating the effect of extraocular counterpulsation.

6. Effects of simvastatin on renal expression of Fas/Fas-L in aged diabetic rats after uninephrectomy
Academic Journal of Second Military Medical University 2010;29(9):1046-1051
Objective: To explore the effects of hydroxy-methyl-glutaryl coenzymeA reductase inhibitor (HMG-CoA RI) simvastatin on renal expression of apoptosis related gene Fas/Fas-L in aged diabetic rats after uninephrectomy. Methods: Elderly uninephrectomized SD rats were randomly divided into uninephrectomized control group (group C), streptozocin(STZ)-induced diabetic model group(group D), and diabetes + simvastatin group (group S). The apoptosis indices in renal tisses of three groups were detected by terminal deoxynucleotide mediated nick end labeling 12 weeks later. Immunofluorescence and real-time quantitative PCR were employed to observe the expression changes of Fas/Fas-L genes at the transcription and translation levels. Results: Compared with group C, group D had significantly higher apoptosis index and expression level of Fas/Fas-L; the above parameters were lower in group S compared with those in group D (P<0.05). The expression of Fas/Fas-L protein was mainly in the renal tubules. Conclusion: Both Fas and Fas-L genes are associated with the development and progression of diabetic nephropathy in aged rats. Simvastatin can down-regulate the translation and transcription of the genes, inhibit cell apoptosis and protect the kidney.

Academic Journal of Second Military Medical University 2011;32(4):404-408
Objective To investigate the relationship between sleep quality and mild cognitive impairment(MCI) in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods We collected 97 elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and divided them into two groups: MCI group (DM-MIC) and normal cognition group (DM-NC group). All subjects were evaluated with cognition scores of Mini-mental state examination (MMSE), Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MOCA), Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS), Center for Epidemiogical Studies Depression Scale (CES-D), Activity of daily living(ADL), Global Deterioration Scale(GDS), and Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI). Independent t-test and Spearman's rank correlation analysis were performed. Results The hypnotic use in DM-MCI group was significantly more than that in DM-NC group (P = 0.046), and it had a negative correlation with the score of delayed recall, but not statistically significant(r= -0.277, P = 0.062). Significantly negative correlations were also found between the score of PSQI and MOCA (r= - 0.362), PSQI and attention(r= -0.319), PSQI and delayed recall (r= - 0.409), daytime dysfunction and MOCA (r= - 0.393), daytime dysfunction and abstraction (r= - 0.337), night sleep disorders and language (r= -0. 439), sleep efficiency and delayed recall (r = -0.325), and subjective sleep quality and delayed recall(r= -0.336) in DM-MCI group(P<0.05). Conclusion Sleep quality is correlated with some symptoms of mild cognitive impairment in elderly patients with T2DM.

Objective To evaluate the effects of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) gene transfer on intrahepatic vascular resistance (IHVR) and portal venous pressure (PVP) in cirrhotic rats. Methods (1) 5 days after eNOS gene transfer, the in situ liver perfusion system (ISLP) was prepared and in different groups of controls and eNOS treated rats, the followings were analyzed: portal perfusion pressure (PP) dose-response curve to norepinephrine (NE); the effects on PP caused by specific nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitor N-monomethyl-L- arginine (L-NMMA) or the nitric oxide (NO) synthesis substrate L-arginine (L-Arg). (2) The experiment of perfusion via portal vein in vivo was performed and the effects of L-NMMA on the PVP was observed. Results (1) In ISLP model, after L-NMMA was added into the perfusate of the control rats, PP dose-respose to NE increased remarkably and the peak of PP increased to (26.7?0.9) mm?Hg. The increased PP response to NE caused by L-NMMA was offsetted by L-Arg and the peak of PP decreased to (23.2?0.9) mm?Hg. In eNOS treated rats, PP response to NE was significantly lower than that in controls (P
