Objective To investigate the clinical application value of padded molars.Methods Totally 54 cases of malocclusions from Department of Orthodontics of West China Hospital of Stomatology were received occlusal pads by optiband ultra band bongding at the early stage of orthodontic treatment (1th -5thmonth).The lateral cephalometric radiographs before and after treatments were analyzed.The effects on vertical height of molars after using padded molars were observed.Results The padded molars did not affect the vertical height without statistical difference (P ＞ 0.05).Conclusions Temporary using padded molars were feasible in orthodontic treatment.Padded molars may be widely applied in clinical orthodontics.

Objective To investigate the clinical application value of psychological induction in impression taking of deciduous crossbite.Methods Totally 84 children of deciduous crossbite receiving impression taking were divided equally into 2 groups.Children in the control group received impression taking directly,while children in the experimental group received psychological induction before impression taking.A comparative study was carried out according to special cooperative behavior assessment for children.Results The cooperation degree of the experiment group was increased significantly after psychological induction with statistical differences between them(P ＜ 0.05).Conclusions Psychological induction can improve the cooperation degree of children in impression taking.

Objective: To evaluate the initial pain and influential factors in orthodontic treatment by VAS(visual analogue scales),and explore the way to alleviate the pain. Methods:107 subjects(47 male and 60 female) were selected. Following insertion of the first archwire (0.36 mm Chinese NiTi wire), visual analogue scale(VAS) was used to record the severity of pain at 4,12,24 h and on day 3,5,7. All the subjects were randomly divided into two groups by ligature with elastomeric rings (in 51 patients) or stainless steel wires (in 56 patients).In all the 107 patients, 30 people need to extract their tooth for relieving crowding while the other 77 were non-extraction cases. Results:No significant differences of pain were found between elastomeric rings ligature cases and stainless steel wires ligature cases at each stage; as well as between extraction and non-extraction cases. But the adults perceived more pain than the adolescents. Patients who were asked to chew gum or to do something (watching TV or listening to music) for distraction perceived less pain.The differences were statistically significant between different groups. Conclusion:The orthodontist should make a good communication with patient about initial pain before the orthodontic treatment, especially for adults.

Objective To study H.pylori infection and the changes of muco sal inflammation， atrophy and intestinal metaplasia in the different histolog ical types of gastric polyps. Methods Two hundred and seventy－ eight cases of gastric polyps(12.6％ ) from 2 203 gastric mucosal biopsy cases were histologic ally classified and examined for the presence of Helicobacter pylori,for degree and type of inflammation,mucosal atrophy and intestinal metaplasia. Results 53. 9％ gastric polyps were infected with H.pylori,in which faveolar polyp was the highest with an infective rate of 73.1％ .The changes of active inflammation,atr ophy and metaplaisa in gastric mucosa were frequently accompanied with H.pylori positive faveolar polyps almost as same as those in adenoma.The fundic gland pol yps were usually with low rate of H.pylori infection,and the changes of mucosal active inflammation,atrophy and metaplasia were seldom observed. Conclusions Fav eolar polyps,which are different from fundic gland polyp,may caused by H.pylori infection and are usually with the changes of mucosal active inflammation,atroph y and metaplasia.

Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of Typodont-based table clinic competition (TCC) on undergraduate orthodontic education. Methods Students who have finished basic orthodon-tic courses made diagnosis,treatment strategy and performed orthodontic treatment for malocclusion cases on Typodonts. A self-design questionnaire was employed to investigate their perception to this pedagogy. Results The majority of participants(82.2%-92.9%) highly evaluated Typodont-based TCC. Conclu-sions Typodont-based TCC course is conducive to arousing students' study internets and to promoting association between theory and practice.

AIM:To investigate the clinical significance of microRNA-26a-5p (miR-26a-5p)-regulated mye-loid cell leukemia-1 (MCL-1) expression in the development of maternal preeclampsia.METHODS:Plasma and placen-tal tissues were collected from 21 cases of normal pregnancy, 13 cases of maternal gestational hypertension, 15 cases of mild preeclampsia and 26 cases of severe preeclampsia.The levels of plasma and placental miR-26a-5p and placental MCL-1 mRNA were detected by real-time PCR.Western blotting analysis was used to determine the protein expression of placen-tal MCL-1.The clinical significance of the above parameters was also analyzed.RESULTS:miR-26a-5p expression gradu-ally increased(P<0.01) in the 4 groups of maternal plasma and placentas with the disease development, and the mRNA expression of MCL-1 was significantly reduced in the placentas (P<0.01), both showing a significant negative correlation (P<0.01).Meanwhile, the expression of miR-26a-5p and MCL-1 protein in the placental tissues was negatively correla-ted (P<0.01).The miR-26a-5p up-regulation in maternal plasma and placental tissues was negatively correlated with ges-tational age, maternal plasma albumin levels and fetal weight, while it was positively correlated with maternal blood pres-sure and urinary protein level (P<0.01), which was in contrary to the down-regulation of placental MCL-1.CONCLU-SION:Up-regulation of miR-26a-5p is involved in the occurrence and development of preeclampsia by down-regulation of MCL-1.

Objective: The aims of this study are to investigate the working mechanism, the characteristics, the clinical application and the suggested modification of the Quad Helix appliance. Methods: A 7-year-old, female patient with Pierre-Rokin syndrome, who was preformed with palatorrhaphy at 21-month-old treated by using a Quad Helix appliance for one year. Results: After one-year treatment, the wide between the maxillary first molars increased 9.65mm, and the wide between maxillary canines increased 5.20mm. The wide between the mandibular first molars also increased 3.60mm, however the wide between mandibular canines decreased 5.20mm. Conclusion: The Quad-helix appears to be a successful Orthodontic appliance to expand the narrow maxillary or mandibular arches.

Objective: To provide empirical evidence on the effectiveness of comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) on sexual knowledge and sexual attitudes improvement among college students. Methods: Sexual knowledge and attitudes questionnaire survey was implemented among college students in Beijing, who later received the CSE for a full semester. Sexual knowledge and attitude were evaluated after intervention and were compared with control students. Results: The average score of sexual knowledge was low among college students in Beijing. Most students held neutral attitudes towards "AIDS community" and "masturbation behavior" and positive attitudes towards "LGBT"(58.85%, 68.75%, 61.98%). Compared with the control group, after one semester of CSE curriculum intervention, the average scores of the five dimensions on sexual knowledge in the intervention group was significantly improved(11.79±1.16, 9.36±1.23, 4.84±0.88, 4.91±1.00, 5.35±1.03)(t=11.25, 15.74, 10.37, 5.59, 8.17, P<0.01), and the attitudes towards "sexual minorities", "AIDS communities" and "masturbation behavior" were also significantly improved(30.59±3.91, 17.70±3.41, 10.12±2.17)(t=5.16, 5.83, 2.97, P<0.01). Conclusion College students’ knowledge of sexuality is not optimistic. The attention to proper sexual attitudes is in great need. Systematic and comprehensive sexuality education curriculum could improve college students’ sexual knowledge and attitudes.

Clear aligner treatment achieves patients' precise tooth movements through utilizing patients' digital dental models and tooth movement planning by orthodontists. Originated from the rudimentary form in 1940's, clear aligner has undergone many innovations and developments. A strict selection of extraction patients for clear aligner treatments is a prerequisite of good treatment outcomes. Orthodontists should first master the unique features of aligner biomechanics and mechanisms. For extraction patients treated with clear aligners, orthodontists should focus on anchorage control, torque control and vertical control, and strictly monitoring treatment progressions, as to achieve satisfactory treatment outcomes. With the development of dental materials and techniques, we believe that clear aligner treatment will be a mainstay of future orthodontic treatments.

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of domestic human recombinant FSH (rhFSH) in women with anovulation of WHO groupⅡ. Methods A randomized, blind, parallel-controlled, non-inferiority and multicenter study was performed. A total of 534 admitted to 13 hospitals from May 2008 to August 2009. There were 531 women with ovulatory disorder was included in the statistical analysis, were randomly divided into test group (domestic rhFSH, n=352) and control group (imported rhFSH, n=179). Percentage of cycle with mature follicle, ovulation rate, clinical pregnancy rate, multiple pregnancy rate, ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) and adverse events were observed. Results No statistical significant differences (P>0.05) were observed between the two groups in terms of the efficiency on mature follicle [91.8%(323/352) versus 88.8%(159/179)], ovulation rate [91.3%(295/323) verus 90.6%(144/159)], clinical pregnancy rate [19.2%(62/323) verus 18.2%(29/159)], the number of the follicles<14 mm, the level of serum LH and progesterone, the thickness of endometrium on the day of hCG administration. The number of follicle≥18 mm and 14 mm≤follicle<18 mm and the level of serum estradiol on the day of hCG in the test group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). The number of days of rhFSH administration in the test group was significantly less than that in the control group [(9.8±2.2) versus (11.4± 0.6) days, P<0.05], the dosage of rhFSH was significantly lower than that in the control group [(879 ± 419) versus (1 043 ± 663) U, P<0.05]. The multiple pregnancy rate in the test group was significantly higher than that in the control group [21% (13/62) versu 10% (3/29), P<0.05]. The incidence of OHSS and adverse events were similar between the two groups (P>0.05), and no other adverse events were observed in test group during treatment. Conclusion Ovarian stimulation with domestic rhFSH is effective, safe and economical in women with anovulation of WHO groupⅡ.
