Korean Journal of Anesthesiology 1992;25(5):884-889
This study was undertaken to estimate the effects of the induction agents on the bioparameters such as changes in blood pressure, pulse rate, Apgar score, patients movement, fetal arterial and venous blood gas analysis, memory and emergence reactions. 116 parturients undergoing cesarian section were divided into two groups: ketamine group and thiopental group, and were given 1.2 mg/kg ketamine in ketamine group and 4 mg/kg thiopental sodium in thiopental group as an induction agent respectively. The results were as follows; I) Blood pressure increased in both groups, but ketamine group less increased than thiopental group statistically. Pulse rate did not increased in skin incision in ketamine group statistically. 2) The patient's movement were 5 case(9%) in ketamine group and 17 cases(29%) in thiopental group. 3) There was not significant difference in fetal arterial and venous blood gas analysis. 4) In Apgar score, ketamine group is better than thiopental group. 5) There was no psychologic side reactions in both groups. 6) Postoperative recalling of intraoperative awareness occured in seven patients(12%) only in the thiopental group.

The study was designed to compare the anti-carcinogenic effect of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) isomers on colon carcinogenesis in 1,2-dimethylhydrazine (DMH)-treated rats by determining the levels of apoptosis, cell proliferation, eicosanoids and 1,2-diacylglycerol (DAG) in colonic mucosa. Sixty male Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into 3 groups depending on the types of CLA isomers, i.e. BT group (no CLA contained), CLA-C group (cis-9, trans11 isomer contained), and CLA- T group (trans-10, cis-12 isomer contained). The experimental diet was composed of protein at 20%, carbohydrate at 56.2%, and fat at 14.5% including 0.8% CLA isomers by weight. The experimental diet was fed for 14 weeks with the initiation of intramuscular injection of DMH, which was injected twice a week for 6 weeks to give total dose of l80mg per kg body weight. Two CLA isomers (c9t11 and t10c12) significantly increased the relative percentage of apoptosis but reduced cell proliferation in mucosal cell and also the levels of PGE2, TXB2, and DAG in colonic mucosa. However, there was no significant differences in anti-carcinogenic effect between c9t11 isomer and t10c12 isomer. Overall, colon carcinogenesis could be significantly inhibited by CLA isomers by increasing apoptosis and reducing cell proliferation, the levels of eicosanoids and DAG in colonic mucosa.

This report is concerned with our clinical experience of 150 cases of anesthesia for open heart surgery at department of anesthesiology, In chon Gil hospital from Februry, 1990 to April, 1993. The results were as follows ; 1) Among 150 cases, 68 cases (45.3%) were congenital heart disease and 82 cases (54.7%) were acquired heart disease. 62 cases (41.3%) were males and 88 cases (58.7%) were females. 2) Glycopyrrolate, diazepam, morphine, were used as premedicants. 3) Fentanyl, ketamine, diazepam, thiopental sodium were used as induction agents and injected singly or in combination. 4) In congenital cyanotic heart diseases, ketamine was used as main anesthetic agent. In other heart diseases, fentanyl, isoflurane, diazepam were used. 5) Vecuronium was used for intubation and maintenance of muscle relaxation. 6) Overall mortality rate was 3.3% (5 cases) and the causes of death were low cardiac output, respiratory insufficiency, mediastinal infection.

Korean Journal of Clinical Pharmacy 2018;28(3):238-242
BACKGROUND: The appropriate use of drugs is very important for a healthy life, as appropriate medication must be taken correctly for successful treatment of a disease. The purpose of this study was to investigate the self-efficacy between health status and drug abuse behavior. METHODS: The subjects of this study were selected from 15 workshops located in Seoul, Incheon, Daejeon, and Chungnam, and, convenience sampling was conducted for each employee between September, 2017 and October 2017. A total of 204 questionnaires were analyzed. The questions evaluated health status, self-efficacy, drug abuse behavior, and general characteristics. RESULTS: First, there was no difference in health status according to the general characteristics of the subjects. The self-efficacy varied according to gender, educational background, and monthly income, but not by marital status and residence area. In addition, drug abuse behaviors differed according to gender, residence area, and monthly income, but not by marital status and education level. Second, drug abuse behavior negatively correlated with health status and self-efficacy. Third, regression analysis showed that the self-efficacy between the health status and drug abuse behavior had a partially mediating effect. CONCLUSION: In patients with poor health status, it is necessary to increase their self-efficacy to reduce reduce drug abuse. Therefore, regular education programs targeting efficacy and drug knowledge are required in the community.

Journal of the Korean Pediatric Society 2000;43(10):1386-1389
Omphalocele-exstrophy-imperforate anus-spinal defects(OEIS Syndrome) is a single defect in early mesoderm, and its incidence is about one in 250,000. If was first described by Littre in 1709. The characteristics of this disorder is omphalocele, extrpohy of bladder, imperforate anus and spina bifida. There have been reports of longtime survival made possible by several operations, but for most cases normal life is impossible due to the deformities. We report a case of OEIS complex who had omphalocele, exstrophy of bladder, imperforate anus and spina bifida from birth.
