[Objective]To assess whether calcitonin exerts an chondroprotective action in unstable knees which induce experimental osteoarthritis and its effect to MMP-1.[Method]Twenty 6-month New Zealand rabbits underwent anterior cruciate ligament transaction(ACLT) and were divided into two groups (ACLT group and ACLT+CT group) randomly after transaction on day 7 postsurgery. ACLT+CT group rabbits received a daily subcutaneous injection of salmon calcitonin at a dose of 5 IU per kg of body weight for six weeks.ACLT group were treated with the normal saline at the same dose. All animals were sacrificed 7 weeks postsurgery. The articular cartilage degeneration of medial femoral condyle was evaluated at mascroscopically and microscopically. Objective: To investigate the influence of Swiss ball exercises on clinical efficacy and stability of lumbar vertebra in patients with protrusion of lumber intervertebral disc. Method: Thirty patients with non-acute protrusion of lumber intervertebral disc were divided by gender and clinics orders into control and exercises group. Roland Morris questionaire(RMQ) and visual analogue seale(VAS) were selected as pain assessment. Pain, abdominal and back muscle strength were assessed respectively before treatment, 2 and 4 weeks after Swiss ball exercises. Both Swiss ball exercises and lumbar traction were used in exercises group. Lumbar traction was used in control group. Result: Compared with before treatment, RMQ and VAS scores decreased significantly after 4 weeks in control and exercises groups (P<0.05, P<0.01). Compared with control, RMQ and VAS scores in exercises group decreased significantly after 2 and 4 weeks respectively (P<0.05, P<0.01). Compared with control, abdominal and back muscle strength in exercises group increased significantly after 2 and 4 weeks respectively (P<0.05, P<0.01). Conclusion: The low back pain symptom of patients with protrusion of lumber intervertebral disc decreased significantly and abdominal and back muscle strength increased significantly by beth Swiss ball exercises and lumbar traction. The stability of lumbar vertebra of patients with protrusion of lumber intervertebral disc increased significantly.

Objective To study the changes of serum and ascitic procalcitonin (PCT ) level in the patients with liver cirrhosis complicating spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) and to investigate the value in its early diagnosis .Methods 92 patients with cirrhotic and ascites were detected the levels of serum and ascitic PCT by the immunofluorescence method and the detection results were compared with the ascites routine and the bacterial culture results .Results Serum levels of PCT in the SBP group and the non-SBP group were obviously higher than those in the control group ,the difference was statistically significant (P<0 .05);Serum and ascitic levels of PCT in the SBP were significantly higher than those in the non-SBP group ;The sensitivity of serum PCT for di-agnosing peritonitis was 89 .3% ,the sensitivity of ascitic PCT for diagnosing peritonitis was 71 .4% .Conclusion The levels of ser-um and ascitic PCT have the important value for the early diagnosis of liver cirrhosis ascites ,moreover serum PCT level has higher value for early diagnosing liver cirrhosis ascites .

[Objective]To summarize the clinical effect of revolving self-lock nails and normal operative therapy for humerus shaft fracture,and discuss the perfect treatment methods.[Method]We retrospectively analyzed and compared the outcome and complications of the the humerus shall fracture by normal operative therapy in 96 cases(compression plate 42 cases,monolateral fixator 26 cases,embracing fixator 28 cases);revolving self-lock nails 39 cases.[Result]The operative time,volume of blood loosing,the radial nerve injury,the infection rate and the breakage rate of the group treated with normal operative therapy were obviously more than the group treated with revolving self-lock nails,and the satisfactory rate after operation of the group treated with normal operative therapy was less than the group treated with revolving self-lock nails.[Conclusion]Revolving self-lock nails can avoid much shortcoming of transverse locking nails.The advances of revolving self-lock nails are convenient in operative procedure,with little invasive of operation,solid internal fixation and safety compared with the normal operative therapy.And revolving self-lock nails has two kind choices:anterograde transfixation and retrograde transfixafion,thus it can protect function of shoulder joint in some ways,so revolving self-lock nails is one of the idea choices to treat the fracture of shaft of humerus.In opposition,normal operative has much shortage and it is restricted by type of fractures.

AIM: To study the chloride channel activity [ICl_(Ca)] in vascular smooth cells of the spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). METHODS: The vascular beds of mesenteric arteries were isolated from the pentobarbital anesthetized rats and perfused with 37 ℃ PSS at a constant flow rate. The vasoconstriction response to norepinphrine (NE) was determined by changes in perfused pressure. The strips of the rat arteries were mounted in an organ chamber filled with 37 ℃ PSS and the vascular tension was measured. RESULTS: (1) The contractile responses of mesenteric arteries to NE in SHR were greater than that in Wistar rats. (2) The inhibitory magnitude of the contractile response by niflumic acid in SHR was significantly less than that in Wistar rats and showed dose-dependent manner. (3) Decreasing the extracellular Cl~- concentration increased the contractile response to NE significantly and the amplitude of enhanced contractile response in SHR was greater than that in Wistar rats. CONCLUSION: It can be concluded that NE-induced contraction is enhanced in SHR, which is partly due to an increase in Cl~- efflux through the Ca~(2+)-activated Cl~- channels. The chloride channel activity may increase in association with the elevation of vascular tone and blood pressure.

In order to investigate the role of Th17 cytokines in the pathogenesis of psoriasis, reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was used to detect the expression of IL-17, IL-23 (p19/p40), and IL-6 in skin lesions and non-lesions of the patients with psoriasis and skin tissues of normal subjects. The results showed that the mRNA expression levels of IL-17, IL-23p19, IL-23p40 and IL-6 in psoriasis lesion were significantly higher than those of non-lesions (1.231 +/- 0.843 vs 1.003 +/- 0.044, 1.166 +/- 0.142 vs 0.765 +/- 0.133, 1.125 +/- 0.104 vs 0.730 +/- 0.103, 1.186 +/- 0.222 vs 0.976 +/- 0.122, respectively, all P < 0.05). Meanwhile, The expression levels of IL-17 mRNA, IL-23p19 mRNA, IL-23p40 mRNA and IL-6 mRNA were higher in non-lesions than those in normal skin tissues (1.003 +/- 0.044 vs 0.620 +/- 0.104, 0.765 +/- 0.133 vs 0.584 +/- 0.078, 0.730 +/- 0.103 vs 0.000 +/- 0.000, 0.976 +/- 0.122 vs 0.656 +/- 0.121, respectively, all P < 0.05). The overexpression of Th17 cytokines in the skin lesions of patients with psoriasis may indicate that Th17 cytokines play a very important role in the immunopathogenesis of psoriasis.

To investigate the role of toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9) in the pathogenesis of lichen planus, the expressions of TLR9 and its mRNA in the lesional skin of lichen planus were detected by immunohistochemical technique (SP) and RT-PCR. As control, normal skin of healthy volunteers was also tested. The immunohistochemical study showed that the expression of TLR9 in the lesional skin of lichen planus was significantly higher than that in the normal controls. The results of RT-PCR showed that both skin lesions and normal controls had TLR9 expression. In skin lesions, the expression level of TLR9 mRNA was 1.6075+/-0.0930, which was significantly higher than that in normal controls (P<0.001). These findings indicated that up-regulated expression of TLR9 and its mRNA might be involved in the pathogenesis of lichen planus.

Objective To evaluate the influence of rectal washout on the prognosis of rectal cancer after anterior resection.Methods Data of 144 patients with rectal cancer undergoing anterior resection at Chinese Academy of Medical Science Cancer Hospital between May 2006 and November 2007 were reviewed.69 patients received rectal washout and 75 patients did not.The incidences of recurrence and 5-year disease-free survival rates were compared.Data were analyzed by SPSS 13.0 software packet,using x2 and t inspection.Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculate postoperative survival rate.Results Washing sample was positive for malignant cells in 55 patients (79.7％).The incidences of recurrence were 4.6％ and 6.7％ in washout group and no-washout group respectively (x2 =0.368,P =0.721).The five-year disease-free survival rate was 79.7％ in washout group and 74.7％ in no-washout group(x2 =0.517,P =0.553).Conclusions Free malignant cells were ubiquitous in rectal lumen during anterior resection,and there was a high positive rate of cytological examine for washout sample.Rectal washout may reduce local recurrence and prolong patients' survival.
