Objective To investigate the survival rate, voiding, sexual function after nerve-sparing surgery with extended systematic extraperitoneal lateral lymphadenectomy in lower rectal cancer. Methods Three hundreds and ninety-two cases with advanced lower rectal cancer who underwent nerve-sparing surgery with radical dissection from 1996 to 2000 were reviewed. Among them,173 cases only cleared in abdominal cavity,219 cases coupled with extraperitoneal lateral lymphadenectomy. BACKGROUND:The occurrence and severity of denture stomatitis are closely related to denture cleaning methods and wearing time. Therefore, it is of great significance to explore the effects of denture cleansers on denture surface roughness and color stability.OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effects of four different denture cleansers on the surface roughness and color stability of heat-curing denture base resins and elastic denture base materials by means of soaking test.METHODS: Samples of heat-curing denture base resins (n=25) and elastic denture base materials (n=25) were polished and soaked in NaClO, Efferdent, Polident partial, Polident overnight and water, respectively. The soak process was repeated 90 times. Then the color aberration and surface roughness were tested using color meter and roughmeter before soaking and after 30, 60, 90 times of soaking.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:These four kinds of denture cleansers have greater influence on the elastic denture base materials than on the heat-curing denture base resins. With the increasing of soaking time, the color aberration and surface roughness of the two kinds of denture materials were increased gradualy after treatment with different denture cleansers, and the values were ranked as follows: NaClO > Efferdent > Polident overnight > Polident partial and water. To conclude, denture cleansers can induce the changes in denture surface roughness and color stability of heat-curing denture base resins and elastic denture base materials. NaClO exerts the strongest effect, followed by Efferdent and Polident overnight, and Polident partial exhibits the weakest effect.

Objective; To investigate the expression and distribution of IL-6 in periodontal tissues and the change of the alveolar bone of rats during orthodontic tooth movement, and to study the effects of orthodontic force on the periodontal tissue remodeling. Methods: SO gram orthodontic force was loaded on the left first maxillary molars of 25 rats in experimental group. Immunohistochem-istry and histomorphometric analysis were performed to measure the expression of IL-6 and the loss of alveolar bone at 0, 1, 3, 5, 7 " and 10 days after the application of orthodontic force. Results; The expression of IL-6 was observed to reach maximum level on day 3 and to decline thereafter in experimental group. No obvious alveolar bone loss was detected in the mesial side of the first molars. Conclusion; Although orthodontic force can evoke the local inflammatory response of periodontal tissue and the expression of pro-inflammation cytokines such as IL-6, it can not cause severe periodontal destruction and alveolar bone loss.

Objective To analyze the clinical features of rectal and perianal inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor and evaluate its diagnosis and treatment.Method Clinicopathological data of 3 cases diagnosed as inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor from January,2005 to June,2011 were retrospectively reviewed.Results Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor presents as infiltrative growth mass with rich vascularization on CT or MRI,and is difficult to distinguish from hemangioma and other rectal tumors.Preoperative biopsy usually fails to ascertain the entity of mass,and pathological examination of the whole resected specimen with immunohistochemical staining is needed to make final diagnosis.All 3 cases underwent sphincter preserving surgery.One case received a second radical operation 16 months after primary resection because of local recurrence.All patients are followed up to now,with a survival time of 67 months,55 months,and 35 months respectively.Conclusions Rectal and perianal inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor is difficult to diagnose on preoperative imaging examinations or biopsy.Immunohistochemical staining is needed to make final diagnosis.Sphincter preserving surgery with complete tumor removal could achieve long term survival.

Objective To investigate the clinical features, effective treatment, survival and prognostic factors of second primary tongue squamous cell carcinoma (SPTSCC) after nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) radiotherapy. Methods The clinical data of 35 cases with SPTSCC after NPC radiotherapy were analyzed retrospectively. Kaplan-Meier method, Log-Rank test and COX proportional hazard mode was performed for statistical analysis. Results 3-year and 5-year overall survival rates were 55 % and 47 %, respectively, lymph node metastasis rate was 5.71 %. Univariate analysis indicated that gender (χ2 = 8.89, P = 0.00), T classification (χ2= 5.58, P= 0.02), clinical stage (χ2 = 8.51, P= 0.04) and treatment methods (χ2 = 29.37, P = 0.00) were important factors of prognosis. Multivariate analysis showed that treatment methods (P = 0.00) and T classification (P = 0.03) were independent prognostic factors. Operative treatment group had better prognosis than the non-operative treatment group, the difference was statistically significant (P <0.05), male patients in the risk of SPTSCC was higher than the female patients, and the incidence of SPTSCC was increased along with extension of the time after NPC radiotherapy. Conclusion The rate of the lymph node metastasis is lower for SPTSCC after NPC radiotherapy and treatment patterns and T stage are independent prognostic factors. Long-term follow-up after NPC radiotherapy is necessary to the early diagnosis of SPTSCC, so that to give surgery or combined therapy with surgery in order to achieve a good effect.

Objective To establish a method for the determination of propylthiouracil in human plasma by UPLC-MS/MS and provide methodological basis for therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) and bioequivalence test (BE) in clinical. Methods The chromatographic separation was performed on an Agilent SB-C₁₈ column (4.6 mm×150 mm, 5 μm), the mobile phase was methanol and water containing 0.1% formic acid (80∶20, V/V), isocratic elution. MS condition was optimized in the positive ion detection mode by multiple reaction monitoring (MRM), along with the Agilent JetStream electrospray source interface (AJS-ESI). The precursors to the product ion transitions were m/z 171.1→112.1 for propylthiouracil and m/z 176.1→117.0 for the internal standard (IS). Results The calibration curve was linear in the range of 10−5 000 ng/ml for propylthiouracil in human plasma, r=0.999 3. The intra-day and inter-day precision and accuracy were good (RSD<10%，RE<±10%). The matrix effect of different concentrations was less than 110% and the coefficient of variation was less than 5%. The average recovery of different concentrations was 101.60%−113.56%, which conformed with the requirement of methodological validation. Conclusion The method is rapid, sensitive and accurate, which can be used for the determination of propylthiouracil in human plasma.

Objective To develop a new method for the simultaneous determination of seven polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)in water by dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction based on solidification of floating organic droplet(DLLME-SFO)with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS). Methods The experimental conditions of DLLME-SFO were determined with dodecanol as extractant solvent, methanol as dispersive solvent, inonic strength increased by adding 8% NaCl. After vortexed for 1 min and centrifuged at 4 000 r/min for 5 min, the water sample was cooled down in an ice bath till dodecanol became solid and formed a small ball. Then the solidified dodecanol phase was transferred, and directly detected by GC-MS method after it melted. Results Good linearities were obtained for the seven polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons within the range of 5 μg/L-200 μg/L. The correlation coefficients were above 0.996. The detection limits ranged from 1.6 ng/L to 3.2 ng/L. The average recoveries ranged from 86.2% to 105% and the RSDs from 3.8% to 9.4%. Conclusion The method is sensitive, fast and simple. It has the advantage of little organic solvent consumption, which is friendly to environment and suitable for the detection of seven PAHs in water.

Objective Investigating alterations of axon microstructures in white matter lesions in a rat model of hypertension. Methods Eighteen male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into sham operation group (n=9) and operation group (n=9). Operation group received two kidneys two clips surgeries and bilateral common carotid arteries ligations. In the 12th week after common carotid arteries ligation, rats were evaluated by Morris Water Maze test and then sacrificed for evaluation of pathological features, including small arteries' pathologies, white matter lesions, glia changes and axon micro organizations. Results Morris Water Maze test showed that escape latencies was significantly higher in operation group than in sham operation group. The number of times of cross-over cite in the target quadrant was significantly lower in the operation group than in sham operation group (P＜0.05). Compared with sham operation group, operation group showed a series of pathological features, such as arteriosclerosis, leukoaraiosis, loss of oligodendrocyte and disorganized paranode. Conclusions White matter lesion is a chronic progressive disease which involves both demyelination and axon injuries.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the inhibitory effects of curcumin against HeLa cell invasion and migration and explore the underlying mechanisms.

METHODSHeLa cells were exposed to curcumin treatment at the concentrations of 0, 10, 25, 50, 100, 150 and 200 µmol/L for 24 h. MTT and TUNEL assays were used to assess the cell proliferation inhibition and apoptosis, respectively. Transwell assay was used to evaluate the invasiveness and migration of the treated cells, and RT-PCR and Western blotting were employed to detect the changes in the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), and MMP-9 and E-cad, the 2 markers of cell invasion and migration, were detected by Western blotting. The capacity of NO production in HeLa cells was measured by Griess method.

RESULTSCurcumin inhibited the proliferation of HeLa cells by inducing cell apoptosis in a concentration-dependent manner. Curcumin inhibited the invasion and migration of HeLa cells by increasing E-cad expression and decreasing MMP-9 expression, and also decreased the expression level of iNOS and NO production in the cells.

CONCLUSIONCurcumin inhibits the invasion and migration of HeLa cells by decreasing the expression of iNOS.

Objective: To observe the efficacy of BISCOVER LV tooth liquid polish sealant and Tooth Mousse Dental protective agent on mineralization around the orthodontic brackets during orthodontic treatment. Methods: 60 teeth with bonded orthodontic brackets were randomly divided into three groups, experimental group, positive control group and negative control group, they were applied separately with tooth liquid polish sealant, Tooth Mousse and distilled water. 3 groups were dipped into an artificial caries solution and an artificial saliva solution, cycling between them.90 days later,the changes of enamel surface around the brackets of all samples were detected by microhardness tester and scanning electron microscope. Results : One -way ANOVA was used for statistical analyses, there was significant difference of the microhardness of acid etched enamel surface among the three groups (P < 0.05). Through the LSD-t test, there was no significant difference of the microhardness of acid etched enamel surface between experimental group and positive control group (P > 0.05), and there were significant differences of the microhardness of acid etched enamel surface in another two comparisons within the three groups (P < 0.05). A large number of deposits were found through scanning electron microscope on the dental enamel surface of the experimental group, which could make a better remineralization. Conclusion Both BISCOVER LV tooth liquid polish sealant and Tooth Mousse Dental protective agent can effectively prevent tooth enamel from demineralization around the bracket during orthodontic treatment, doctors can choose them in accordance with the compliance of the patient.
