Journal of Kunming Medical University 2013;(9):31-37
Objective To investigate the relationship between the expression of FAS/FASL and spermatogenesis in the contralateral testis after unilateral testicular torsion in puberty Sprague-Dawley rats. Methods Five groups of side testicular torsion adolescence SD rats model were established as follows:group A as control group, group B for testicular torsion group, group C for testicular torsion plus methylprednisolone group, D for reverse side testes excision group, and Group E testes excision plus methylprednisolone group for reverse side. SD rats were treated with testicular resection and/or injection of methylprednisolone after torsion for 24 h. The rats were executed at postoperative 1 month, and contralateral testes were collected for histopathological examination. Expression of FAS and FASL was analyzed quantitatively by immunohistochemistry with a computer pathological image analysis system. Each rat was evaluated with regard to endocrine parameters (follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone ( LH) and testosterone ( T) by radioimmunoassay. Results Histopathological examination of the contralateral testes showed that either orchiectomy or orchiectomy plus methylprednisolone was more successful than no treatment. Fas/FasL protein in both control group and 4 experimental groups were expressed. B group showed more expression of FAS and FASL than that of the other groups. FSH, LH and T were normal in all cases. Conclusion Unilateral testicular torsion in puberty SD rats may result in higher expression of FAS and FASL, and accelerate germ cell apoptosis and subfertility. Methylprednisolone may decrease the expression of FAS and FASL and maintain spermatogenesis in the contralateral testis after the unilateral testicular torsion.

BACKGROUND: Many studies have suggested that angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors(ACEI) protect blood vessels through anti-atherosclerosis independent of lowering blood pressure, but its mechanism is still unclear.OBJECTIVE: To investigate the anti-atherosclerotic mechanism of ACEI by observing the effects of Enalapril on lipoprotein(a) and oxygen free radicals in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) .DESIGN: A controlled study based on the observation of the patients with AMI.SETTING: Second Department of the South Building, General Hospital of Chinese PLAPARTICIPANTS: Thirty-five inpatients with AMI(19 males and 16 females, aged 42 -75 years old, and averaged (62 ± 9) years old and hospitalized at the Department of Cardiology of Tianjin Harbor Hospital from April 2001 to August 2002 were chosen. These patients were randomly divided into 2 groups: the therapeutic group(20 cases) and the control group(15cases). Inclusion criteria: the diagnosis of patients with AMI was confirmed by WHO criteria. Exclusion criteria: patients with renal dysfunction, shock, hypotension, a history of allergy to ACEI, and a history of severe cough induced by ACEI. All patients had not taken ACEI in the past 2 weeks and agreed to participate in this study.METHODS: On early morning of the third day after AMI, patients in the treatment group took 5 mg of Enalapril one time. If they had no first-dose reaction of hypotension, on the fourth day after AMI, the patients of the treatment group were given a dose of 5 mg twice per day for the following 2 weeks. Then, they were given the drug at a dose of 10 mg twice per day for 2 weeks. The patients in the control group were not given Enalapril. Blood samples were taken respectvely prior to the administration and 2 weeks and 4 weeks after the administration in the two groups. Serum content of lipoprotein(a), oxygen free radicals, triglyceride, total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein(HDL) cholesterol, Apo(a) were measured.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: We compared the level of serum of lipoprotein (a), oxygen free radicals (OFR), triglyceride, total cholesterol,HDL cholesterol, Apo(a) pre-treatment and post-treatment respectively in patients of the two groups.RESULTS: Serum levels of OFR were significantly lowered in the treatment group, which were(1 423.14±216.23), (1 076.62±287.12) and (566.57 ± 138.02) U/mL respectively 2 weeks and 4 weeks before and after the treatment(t =2. 937, 3. 571, P <0. 01), but there were no significant changes in serum concentrations of lipoprotein(a) and lipids( P > 0.05) .CONCLUSION: Enalapril improved the prognosis of patients with AMI by antioxidation, but not by lowering the serum levels of lipoprotein(a) and lipids. The study can serve as a theoretical reference that the mechanism of Enalapril might inhibit atherosclerosis in patients with AMI.

Chinese Journal of School Health 2022;43(7):1061-1065
Objective:
To investigate mental health and its associated factors in college students during COVID-19 confinement in campus, and to provide a scientific basis for mental health education.
Methods:
A general questionnaire, the Patient Health Questionnaire 9 (PHQ-9) and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder- 7 (GAD-7) were administered. A total of 1 816 college students under COVID-19 confinement in campus in Lanzhou City were surveyed from October 18 to November 18, 2021. Data were analyzed by using the ordinal Logistic regression method.
Results:
The overall incidence of depressive emotions was 38.76%, and the incidences of mild, moderate to severe depression emotions were 31.33% and 7.43%, respectively. About 16.36% of students showed anxiety, with mild, moderate to severe anxiety being 13.33% and 3.03%, respectively. Multivariate analysis showed that poverty( OR =1.29), daily schedule (basically normal OR =0.33, normal OR =0.18), adaptability of online learning (moderate adaptation OR =0.45, high level of adaptation OR =0.25), concerns about the infection of oneself and family members (some concerns OR =1.73, considerable concerns OR =2.09),male( OR =0.78), and the isolation mode( OR =1.70). The music listening (sometimes OR =0.44, often OR =0.41), daily schedule (basically normal OR =0.36, normal OR =0.19), adaptability of online learning (moderate adaptation OR =0.42, high level of adaptation OR =0.28), and concerns about the infection of oneself and family members (some concerns OR =1.87, considerable concerns OR =3.27) were primary factors associated with high level of anxiety among college students( P <0.05).
Conclusion
The incidence of depression and anxiety among college students increased following COVID-19 confinement and centralized isolation for medical observation in campus. Universities and relevant departments should take timely and precise measures for psychological counseling.
