Background In vitro study showed that chemotaxis consist of chemotaxis factor 4(CXCR4)and stromal cells derived factor-1(SDF-1)and may play a role in the orientation and migration of retinal progenitor cells (RPCs)toward lesion.Overexpression of CXCR4 in RPCs can enhance the chemotaxis activity.Objective This work was to explore the feasibility and underlying mechanism of up-regulation of CXCR4 on RPCs induced by hypoxia.Methods RPCs were retained in an incubator with normal O2volume(16％)or hypoxia condition(10％ O2)for 12 hours and 24 hours respectively.Flow cytometer cell analysis screening(FACS)was conduced to measure the proportion of CXCR4-expressing cells,and CXCR4,HIF-1 mRNA were analyzed by reverse transcription-polymerse chain reaction(RT-PCR).The chemotical effect of 30 mg/L SDF-1 to RPCs cultured under the hypoxia condition was assessed using Boyden chamber.Results The expression level of CXCR4(CXCR4 mRNA/β-actin mRNA)inRPCs cultured by 10％ O2 for 12 and 24 hours were 0.28+0.07and 0.48+0.17 and increased by 1.75 and 3.00 fold more than that of 16％ O2 culture group(0.16+0.02)(P＜0.01).The expression level of HIF-1 mRNA(HIF-1 mRNA/β-actin mRNA)in RPCs cultured by 10％ O2 for 12 and 24 hours were 0.18 ±0.07and 0.38 ±0.13 and increased by 3.00 and 6.30 fold more than that of 16％ O2 culture group(0.06±0.01)(P＜0.01).The chemotical effect of 30 μg/L SDF-1 to RPCs increased from 13.00％ in 16％ O2 culture group to 36.00％ and 46.00％ in the cells cultured by 10％ O2for 12 and 24 hours.FACS revealed that the proportion of CXCR4+ cells in hypoxia-exposure for 12 and 24 hours were 26.90％ and 46.10％,respectively,but that in 16％ O2 culture group was 9.10％,showing a statistically significant difference(P ＜ 0.01).Conclusions RPCs induced by hypoxia can enhance the expression of CXCR4 in RPE cells and the chemotaxia to SDF-1.The overexpression of H1F-1 in RPCs may be involved in the up-regulation of CXCR4 expression.

Methods Dogs with burn firearm combined injury were randomly divided into two groups: immersion group and control group. Dogs in immersion group were immersed in seawater for 4 h, and then taken out from seawater. Blood samples were collected from central vein before wound, immediately after immersion, at 4, 7, 10, 20, and 28 h after immersion to detect the changes in circulating endothelial cells (CEC), tissue type plasminogen activator (t PA), plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI), and thromboxane B 2/6 keto prostaglandin F 1? (TXB 2/6 K PGF 1? ). Dogs were sacrificed at 28 h after wound for the purpose of pathological examination of the lung tissue. The indices detected except seawater immersion in the control group were the same as those in the immersion group. Results In the control group, the levels of CEC, PAI 1, and TXB 2/6 K PGF 1? increased, but the level of t PA decreased at 4 and 7 h after wound. However, in immersion group, the levels of CEC, PAI 1 and TXB2/6 K PGF1? kept increasing, but the level of t PA kept decreasing at 4, 7, 10, 20, and 28 h. Objective To explore diagnosisand treatment of intestinal obstruction by foodballs in children. Methods The clinical datum of 21 cases of intestinal obstruction by foodballs in children were retrospectively ana- lyzed.Results While admission,only 2 cases could provide the history of having eaten foodballs wholly which could not be digested easily.The characteristics of clinical manifestation were intestinal obstruction completely or incom- pletely.All 21 cases had been treated conservatively first,only one case was successful and the other 20 cases had been cured by surgery afterwords.Conclusion There is no specific feature in clinical manifestations of intestinal ob- struction by foodballs in children,so it is difficult to make the diagnosis,but it must be considered suspicious especial- ly for those from rural area and with simple intestinal obstruction with reasons not known yet.If conservative therapy is failure in a short period,an operation should be done immediately.During operation,it is necessary to examine the whole digestive system thoroughly.

Each nursing student comes to nursing with a lay image of nursing portrayed by nurses they have seen. This lay perception of nursing that a nursing student holds is transformed to a more professional understanding that is acquired in nursing schools. This process is known as professional socialization. It is a process of learning the norms, attitudes, behaviours, skills, roles, and values of the profession. It involves the internalization of the values and norms of the profession in the individual’s own behaviour and self-concept. The ultimate goal of professional socialization is to internalize a professional identity of the profession. Professional socialization sets in to reduce the tension from the scenario of reality shock and facilitate adaptation during the transition process. This paper serves as a concept paper with the main purpose of introducing and explaining the concept of professional socialization in nursing to help the readers in gaining further understanding of the concept, especially within the local context. The first author has also incorporated her own personal reflections with regards to her socialization process to nursing.

Objective To study the influence of seawater immersion on hemostatic function after burn in dogs. Methods Twenty healthy adult mongrel dogs of beth sexes weighing 12-15 kg were randomly divided into two groups: immersion group(n=10) and control group(n=10). The animals were anesthestized with 3% pentobarbital 30 mg?kg~(-1) i.v., intubated and mechanically ventilated. 5F Swan-Ganz catheter was placed via right internal jugular vein. 10% of the skin on the back was burnt(second degree). In immersion group the animals were immersed in seawater containing salt 25.3 g?L~(-1)(pH8.1, T21-23℃) with head and neck kept above water for 4h. In control group the animals suffered second degree burn of same area without being immersed in seawater. Blood samples were taken from Swan-Ganz catheter before burn(baseline)and 4,7,10,20,28 h after burn for determination of(1) circulating endothelial cell(CEC) count, (2)tissue-type plasminogen activator(t-PA), (3) plasminogen activator inhibitor(PAI) and (4) thromboxane B_2/6-keto-prostaglandin F_(1?)(TXB_2/6-k-PGF_(1?)). At the end of the experiment lung tissue was obtained for microscopic examination. Results The blood CEC count, PAI-1 level and TXB_2/6-k-PGF_(1?) ratio significantly increased while t-PA level significantly decreased at 4 h after burn in control group but at 4-28 h after burn in immersion group. The differences between the two groups were significant. Microscopic examination of the lung showed some thrombi in immersion group. Conclusion Burn causes acute damage to the endothelial cells of the whole body and disorder of hemostasis. They are more severe and last longer after seawater immersion.
