PURPOSE: This study was to investigate the relationship between mastery and activity of daily life in rheumatoid arthritis patients. METHOD: The subjects for this study were 222 patients registered in H University Hospital Rheumatoid Arthritis Center, and the period of data collection was from August 15, 2003 to September 30, 2003. Reliability coefficients of instruments were found Cronbach's Alpha =.74~.94. In data analysis, SPSSWIN 10.0 program was utilized for descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression analysis. RESULT: The results were as follows. 1) The range of total uncertainty scores was from 33 to 87 and the mean score of the uncertainty in rheumatoid arthritis patients was 63.27. 2) The range of total mastery scores was from 10 to 27 and the mean score of the mastery in rheumatoid arthritis patients was 18.70. 3) The range of total activity of daily life scores was from 22 to 80 and the mean score of the activity of daily life in rheumatoid arthritis patients was 72.56. 4) The level of mastery was significant correlation with activity of daily life(r=.395, p<.01).

Acquired multiple cavernous hemangiomatosis appear on the skin and internaI organs, including in particular the skeleton, the brain and the liver in childhood or in adult life in the 4th and 5th decades. It is extremely rare for cutaneous hemangiomas associated with internal lesions to arise de novo in adults. The lesions persist indefinitely and symptom-free survival to old age is possible, despite the presence of hemangiomatosis in liver, heart or kidney. A 53 year-old male patient had multiple, non-tender, bluish to violet colored. pea to walnut sized, cutaneous, some pedunculated nodules on the entire body for 8 years. Histopathologically, there were non-capsulated vascuiar tumor consisting of large variable sized blood vessels in the dermis and some organizing thrombi. There was no evidence of malinant change.

Combined procedue of open reduction and shortening of femur for treatment of congenital hip dislocation in the older child is known to minmize the incidence of avascular necrosis, redislocation and stiffness. Thirty six hips in thirty three children were operated upon in the past six years with combined procedue of open reduction and shortening of femur. And twenty eight hips in twenty five children who were followed up more than one year were analysed. By the results, we obtained excellent in twenty nine percent, good in fifty three percent, fair in fourteen percent and poor in four percent.

Two hundred and thirty-seven patients who had paresis or paralysis of the quadriceps muscles underwent a transfer of the biceps femoris by Caldwell's method or medial hamstring to the patella. Seventy-six legs of seventy-two patients who had followed-up more than one year were reviewed and analysed. The results showed there was an overall improvement measured by decreased extension lag in all age groups and relatively uniform good results in young age group. Again we reviewed the forty-six patients chronologically to eliminate the outer factors who were transfered normal biceps femoris or medial hamstring power to absent quadriceps. By that we found the extension power of the knee joint after muscle transfer had been decreased by age.

The “whistling face” syndrome is a dominantly inherited disorder involving the face and musculoskeletal system. Sjnce its first description in 1938 by Freeman and Sheldon, sporadic case reports have appeared in the literature under various syndromes, cranio-carpo-tarsal dystrophy, cranio-facio-corporal syndrome, cranio-carpo-tarsal dysplasia, whistling face-Windmill Vane Hand syndrome and the chirocheilo-podalic syndrome. This report reviews the clinical manifestation of 5 cases of whistling face syndrome in 3 generation in one family.

Hypopigmentation*

On strains of dematophytes isolated from superficial fungal infection patients, susceptibility tests were undertaken to topical antifungal agents (econazole, clotrimazole, siccanin, and tolnaftate). Minimal inhibitory concentration of the drugs was cletermined after 4 days incubation at room temperature on Sabourauds dextroes agar. Diverse susceptibility pattern was observed among different fungal species. Minor variability of susceptibilities was noted within the same species except for Trichophyton rubrum to econazole and tolnaftate in which a marked variation of susceptibilities was noted, Among drug tested, tolnaftate showed the most strong antifungal action, and Trichophyton mentagrophytes was the least sensitive species to all drugs. Minimal inhibitory concentration levels of each drug are as follows; clotrimazole was in the range of 2-8 mcg/ml., econazole was in the range of 0.06-2 mcg/rnl., siccanin was in the range of 05-2 mcg/ml., and tolnaftate was in the range of 0.01-0.25 mcg/ml.

Rhinocerebral mucormycosis, which is a fulminant and progressive disease often seen in debilitated hosts! Requires a high degree of clinical suspicion to promptly diagnose and an aggressive medical and surgical therapy. The prognosis is grave, especially in case of bilateral cavernous sinus thrombosis. We report a case of 69-year-old female patient with bilateral cavernous sinus thrombosis caused by rhinocerebral mucormycosis, who showed orbital swelling and lateral bulging of bilateral cavernous sinus in orbital CT, and large branching nonseptate hypae in biopsed specimen of the left periorbital necrotic tissue.

Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura(TTP) is characterized by fluctuating neurologic signs, microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, fever and renal abnormalities. Neurologic involvement occurs in over 90% of patients with TTP. TTP is rarely associated with large intracerebral hemorrhage and peripheral neuropadiy. The authors report a case of TTP associated with large intracerebral hemorrhage confirmed by brain MRI and peripheral neuropathy diagnosed electrophysiologic findings and sural nerve biopsy.
