Maternal phenylketonuria(PKU) is a disorder which appears when a pregnant woman with PKU doesn't take low phenylalanine diet, phenylalanine level of the fetus rises and interferes with fetal development and can easily result in abortion, low birth weight, microcephaly, cardiac anomaly or mental retardation. To prevent these effects of untreated maternal PKU, low phenylalanine diet should be taken to maintain the serum phenylalanine level less than 10mg/dl throughout the pregnancy. We experienced a case of maternal PKU in a female baby born to a 26-year-old woman with PKU who didn't take low phenylalanine diet until eighth moth of pregnancy. She showed intrauterine growth retardation, ventricular septal defect and patent ductus arteriosus. We report a case of maternal PKU with a brief review.

PURPOSE: To characterize MR findings of meniscal cysts of the knee. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed knee MR images of surgically confirmed eighteen meniscal cysts. The location and shape of meniscal cysts were evaluated. RESULTS: Six of 18 cases were medial meniscal cysts and 12 of 18 cases were lateral meniscal cysts. Horizontal tears were present in all cases(100%). Four of 18 cases had rounded cysts and 14 of 18 cases had elongated cysts. In 3 of 6 medial meniscal cysts, cysts had dissected into the soft tissues distant from the meniscus, and connecting stalks were visualized. Three of 6 medial meniscal cysts were located adjacent to a meniscal tear. All of the lateral meniscal cysts occurred immediately adjacent to the meniscal tear. CONCLUSION: Meniscal cysts are associated with horizontal meniscal tear. The shapes of meniscal cysts tend to be elongated rather than rounded. Medial meniscal cysts occurred distant from or adjacent to the meniscal tear according to location of the tear. Lateral meniscal cysts occurred adjacent to the meniscal tear.

Hypothermia is defined as a core temperature of less than 35 degrees C. Hypothermia changes homeostasis of human body. It includes neurologic, cardiovascular, and metabolic abnormalities. we have anesthetized a woman patient who had intracranial hemorrhage with accidental hypothermia of 27.8 degrees C. We managed for elevation of body temperature with elevation of room temperature (30 degrees C), bladder irrigation with warm saline, application of warming pad and infusion of warming fluid during 4 hours and 20 minutes. At the end of anesthesia, her body temperature was 34.3 degrees C.

The patient with an anterior open bite has one of the most difficult orthodontic problem to correct Previous studies have yielded different conclusions as to exactly where the morphologic problems associated with vertical dysplasia- high angle cases are located. In order to identify the cephalometric features of high angle cases and highlight the measurements that characterize high angle cases, 109 pretreatment cephalograms, 35 high angle, 37 average angle, and 37 low angle cases, were analyzed and compared statistically. As the mandibular plane was steeper, the anterior facial height, especially lower anterior facial height, became greater, and the posterior facial height became smaller. All the dentoalveolar vertical dimensions, especially in upper, increased. Arid all the skeletal angular measurements increased. Especially Lower gonial angle had most positive correlation to mandibular plane angle. Upper incisor was lingually inclined, and lower incisor was labially inclined in high angle cases.

We report two cases of hyperlipoproteinernia(HLP) with various cutaneous xanthomas. Case 1 was a 12-year-old girl, who had tuberous, tendinous, and plane cutaneous xanthomas and corneal arcus of the left eye. Case 2 was a 40-year-old man, who had tuberous, eruptive, and plane cutaneous xanthomas. Serum lipid and lipoprotein analysis reveoled patterns of Type IIa HLP in case 1 and, of Type IIb HLP, in case 2. They have been treated with diet control and hypolipidemic drugs and are under our continuing medical supervision.

The association of colonic atresia in patients with Down syndrome is a rare anomaly. The incidence of congenital atresia of the gastrointestinal tract has been estimated to be about one in 1500 births. Colonic atresia is rarer still, and is throut to comprise about 5% to 10% of this group. This intestinal atresia occurs in about 30% to 50% of patient with Down syndrome. We experienced a case of Down syndrome associated with colonic atresia in a 1 day old male. His initial chief complaints at the admission were severe abdominal distension and Down appearance. Diagnosis was confirmed by chromosomal study and operative laparotomy with end-to-end ileodescending colostomy. We report the case with brief review of related literatures.

Histiocytic medullary reticulosis is a rare, uniformly fatal, acute disease of the reticuloendothelial system. The disease is associated with fever, malaise, weakness, weight loss, lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly, jaundice, and purpura. Common laboratory findings are severe anemia, leukopenia, and thrombocytopenia. A 49-year-old male patient is described who had multiple purple nodules and tumors in the skin. A biopsy taken from a skin lesion showed a diffuse proliferation of atypical histiocytes in the dermis and subcutaneous tissue.However, erythrophagocytosis of these atypical histiocytes was not seen.
