Korean Journal of Community Nutrition 2011;16(2):239-252
The aim of the study was to explore the current status as well as personal views, attitudes, and beliefs regarding daily meal consumption (DM) and food supplement use (FS) in conjunction with the improvement of health condition of the women. Eight focus group interviews were performed and the interview material was condensed systematically with the aim to extract core meanings related to DM, FS, and menopause-associated health. Participants were 40 in number and showed ages ranging from 45 and 60 years with various menopausal status. Current status and beliefs about DM, resources of purchase motivation of FS, types of FS that are currently used, and perceived effects and personal beliefs about FS are discussed. Theme content analysis revealed 3 themes for beliefs about DM, 5 themes for beliefs pertaining FS, and 4 themes for the association between DM and FS. Non-dietary factors such as positive mental attitude and exercise appeared to be also important to maintain good health. The bottom line message from this study may be that proper nutrition through daily meals is essential for good health, while food supplement are used merely to supplement the diet. Findings from this study may deepen our understanding of how women who translate their lifespan through "menopause" perceive the roles and meaning of DM and FS, suggesting health professionals need to monitor and evaluate DM and implement strategies targeting the improvement of daily meal quality of middle and older aged women.

The wandering spleen is a rare condition, in which the spleen is located in other than the left upper quadrant of the abdomen. The clinical manifestation is variable from asymptomatic to abdominal catastrophy due to torsion of the splenic pedicle. We experienced a case of torsion of wandering spleen in 8-year-old girl who admitted with fever, vomiting, abdominal pain, palpable left abdominal mass. She was diagnosed preoperatively with the aid of abdominal sonography and C.T. scanning. A splenectomy was performed and she made uneventful recovery. The case report illustrates some of the diagnostic and therapeutic considerations pertaining to wandering spleen with a brief review of related literature.

The retraction of anterior teeth could be performed more easier by inducing of skeletal anchorage system rather than by conventional method on orthodontic treatment. But, we wonder how effective the system draws well without anchorage loss and draws anterior teeth aside posteriorly, and if the system can reduce the time, in comparison with the anchorage of posterior teeth. For that reason we have studied on the subject of patients, who were required the maximum anchorage on orthodontic treatment and the cases without crowding. The subjects of the experimental group are 35 areas of 20 people who were inserted miniscrews after Mx or Mn 1st premolar extracted. Also, the subjects of the control group are 81 areas of 45 people who were not inserted miniscrews. Compared the anchorage loss of experimental group with control one, we could get the result that the anchorage loss of experimental group is 1.034+/-0.891mm and control group is 2.790+/-1.882mm(P<0.01). Compared the space closing time of experimental group with control one, we could get the result that the space closing time of experimental group is 369.40+/-110.81days and control group is 406.56+/-231.63days. But the result of comparing space closing time has no significance in statistics. We recognized that the experimental group is more faster than the control group in the canine retraction velocity from the result ; the speed of a experimental group has as much as 0.60+/-0.23mm/30days while the speed of a control group has 0.44+/-0.35mm/30days(P<0.05). So, we could convince that orthodontic miniscrew is used effectively in the cases required the maximum anchorage.

Asian Nursing Research 2022;16(4):215-223
Purpose:
The purpose of this article is to evaluate effects of self-determination theory-based on-campus and off-campus prevention programs on smartphone overdependence among university students.
Methods:
This was a pre-posttest quasi-experimental study with a nonequivalent control group (CG). Seventy-eight students were recruited as participants. They were allowed to choose either an experiment group (EG) or a CG. On-campus smartphone overdependence prevention program was provided to participants in experimental group 1 (EG1), while on-campus program combined with off-campus prevention camp was provided to those in experimental group 2 (EG2). Instruments used in this study included a smartphone overdependence self-diagnosis scale, a basic psychological needs scale, and a self-regulation ability scale. Data collection was performed at baseline, immediately after intervention, at 1 month and 3 months after intervention. Data were analyzed using mixed analysis of covariance. Focus group interview was performed for qualitative evaluation.
Results:
After the intervention, smartphone overdependence and basic psychological needs exhibited significant interactions between group and time. Smartphone overdependence scores decreased in EG1 and EG2 but increased in CG (F = 4.56, p = .001). Basic psychological needs improved in EG1 and EG2 but deteriorated in CG (F = 5.04, p = .009). Focus group interviews revealed that participants strived to control their smartphone usage through individual efforts and by interacting with new friends in college even after completing the program.
Conclusion
In this study, on-campus only program and combined intervention of on- and off-campus programs were both effective in maintaining and managing smartphone use. However, participants perceived that the off-campus program provided an opportunity to apply the theory learned in on-campus to the real world.

7.Survey on Nutrients of Served and Consumed Foods in Korean Restaurants in Changwon.
Kyung Hea LEE ; Jeong Soon PYUN
Journal of the Korean Dietetic Association 2005;11(2):147-158
The objectives of this study were to conduct preliminary research to investigate full course meals in Korean style restaurants in order: i) to analyze the nutrient contents of full course meals per servings, and ii) by analyzing the above, to examine the amount and the quality of the foods served in the full course meals by Korean style restaurants in Changwon. A total of 20 restaurants in Changwon participated in this study, and two investigators visited there, consumed and investigated it. A key finding was that restaurant patrons tended to overconsume nutrients as compared to the Korean Recommended Daily Allowance(RDA), and restaurants generated large amounts of food wastes due to the excess food served. Other findings were as follows: 1) 1,821.2Kcal were served, 1,052.6Kcal were consumed and 768.6Kcal which is equivalent to 1/3RDA were thrown away on average. 2) The average carbohydrate:protein:fat(CPF) ratio of caloric nutrients was 42:27:31. 3) The correlation between the consumed and unconsumed calories was r=0.661 and the correlation between served and unconsumed calories was r=0.819. Both consumed and unconsumed calories were closely related to the served calories. 4) The result of the research showed that mean INQ in most nutrients was higher than 1.0, especially INQ in unconsumed food is mostly higher than INQ in provided and consumed food. 5) The unconsumed food and the meal prices were closely correlated in terms of price loss. These findings indicate the Korean style full course meals consisted of a high-protein, high-fat and high-caloric intake, which is similar to a westernized caloric nutrient pattern. They should also be strongly encouraged to play an active role in improving their customers' nutritional status, as well as reducing the restaurants wastage of food. Lastly, further research should be conducted to improve the quality of the menus in Korean restaurants.

Korean Journal of Anesthesiology 1984;17(1):79-82
In view of the current trend towards carrying out termination of pregnancy as day cases it is also important that the patient should be free from pain with a rapid recovery from anesthesia and a minimum of post operative sequalae. We compared the effects of three other anesthetic techniques for the termination of pregnancy in 100 healthy womes as day cases. 1) Anesthesia with thiopental sodium alone was associated with a high score of pain sensation(2+/-0.93) and with considerably rapid recovery(103+/-57.6 mins). 2) The combination of thiopental sodium and meperidine was associated with a lower score of pain sensation(1.58+/-0.8) and with rapidl recovery(101+/-56.4 mins). 3) Meperidine with diazepam was associated with the lowest score of pain sensation(1.4+/-0.69), but had prolonged recovery time(206+/-126 mins) twice that of other techniques. It was conclued that the combination A thiopental sodium and meperidine was the technique of choice for termination of pregnancy as day-cases.

Korean Journal of Women Health Nursing 2009;15(4):280-293
PURPOSE: This study was to identify the relationship between physical suffering, emotional state, and nursing needs of pregnant women in preterm labor and the difference depending on general characteristics. METHODS: The participants in this descriptive survey, selected by convenience sampling, were 126 pregnant women who were hospitalized after being diagnosed with preterm labor at 3 university hospitals. RESULTS: The level of personal hygiene was assessed in physical suffering, level of fear was assessed by the emotional state, and level of perterm labor was assessed by the nursing cares. In the analysis, physical suffering, emotional state, and nursing needs in the subjects all showed a significantly positive correlation. Differences in physical suffering, emotional state, and nursing needs depending on general characteristics were as follows: age, job, family type, economic condition, smoking, drinking admission days, previous delivery type, and artificial insemination. CONCLUSION: Based on the results of this study, the nurse should focus on the domain of personal hygiene, and teaching contents specific for abdominal breathing exercises for relieving the women's fear and anxiety should be added.
