Korean Journal of Dermatology 1987;25(1):150-154
Linear porokeratosis is a rare variant of porokeratosis and usually occurs in childhood. A 37-year-old female is presented with linear porokeratosis on the posterior aspeet of the right lower extremity exhibiting the classical histopathologic criteria of the disease. Treatment with an oral etretinate resulted in a remission of the lesions.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1988;26(3):459-464
A case of "Follicular Occlusion Triad" associated with acne conglobata, hidradenitis suppurativa and perifolliculitis capitis abscedens et suffodiens in 40-year-old male patient is presented with brief review of literature. Widespread acne occured on the face k upper back at the age of 16. Several years later, firm & tender erythematous poorly demarcated nodules developed on the back, buttock and axilla. Also, erythematous nodules developed on temporooccipital area of the scalp. Thereafter, the skin lesions become fluctuant cystic. Some of the skin lesions healed leaving severe hypertrophic scars, and purulent materials expressed from some of persistent lesions. The patient was trested with systemic 13-cis-retinoic acid, antibiotics, corticosteroids injection and incision & drainage with considerable improvement.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1988;26(2):269-273
We present two cases of angiosarcoma occuring on the scalp of aged person. The case 1 was a 74 year-old male who have had purplish colored, slightly raised irregular surfaced plsque on frontal scalp. The other case was a 69-year-old man who have had purplish nodule with satellite lesions on the right frontal area. The cases were confirmed by clinical picture, histologic findings. Treatment was not done because of refuse by patient.

6.An Electron Microscopic Study on the Effect of Vitamin A Acid on Experimentally Induced Comedones in Rabbit.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1988;26(5):645-652
Comedones were induced at external ears of rabbits by daily application of 50% oleic acid in paraffin oil for 3 weeks. 13 cis-retinoic acid(RA) solution(0.1%)wae apllied to experimentally induced comedones. The morphologic changes around the epithelial lining of comedones were observed by transmission electron microscopy to define the effect of RA on comedones. In follicles treated with RA, the results were summarized as follows: l) The thickness of the stratum corneum of the epithelium was markedly decreased with widening of intercellular spaces. 2)The number of desomosomes and desmosoma1 bodies between horny cells was decreased. 3) Abnormally appeared tight junction in the stratum corneum and disappearance of membrane coating granules in the straurn granulosum were reversed to normal state, disappearance of tight junction and increment of membrane coating granule respectively by the application of RA. These observations suggest that RA has comedolytir. effect by decreasing cohesive- ness between horny cells.

7.High-dose Vitamin C therapy in Methemoglobinemia.

Journal of the Korean Society of Emergency Medicine 2014;25(2):202-205
Methylene blue is the first choice antidote for management of methemoglobinemia, however, some patients are refractory to methylene blue and in most cases, methylene blue cannot be available instantly in Korean emergency departments because of import suspension. A 69-year-old woman visited our emergency department for tachypnea and cyanosis after ingesting 30 tablets of dapsone. Because methylene blue was not available, we intravenously administrated 10 g of vitamin C for symptomatic methemoglobinemia. Repeated i.v. administrations of 10 g of vitamin C in patient without preexisting renal insufficiency successfully treated dapsone-induced methemoglobinemia without causing renal complications. Thus, we recommend that if methylene blue is unavailable or methemoglobinemia is refractory to methylene blue, repeated administrations of 10 g of vitamin C may be considered for the treatment of methemoglobinemia in patients without renal insufficiency.

9.Health Status by Anthropometric Values and Serum Biochemical Indices of Preschool Children in Day-Care Centers in Gumi.
Eun Kyung SIN ; Yeon Kyung LEE
Korean Journal of Community Nutrition 2005;10(3):253-263
This study was conducted to investigate health status of preschool children utilizing anthropometric values and serum biochemical indices. The subjects were 1,159 boys and 1,019 girls in Gumi day-care centers aged 4 to 6 years. The mean height and weight of 4, 5 and 6 year old children were 103.0 cm and 17.1 kg, 107.2 cm and 18.3 kg and 113.4 cm and 20.6 kg, respectively. By the obesity index criteria, 5% of boys and 4% of girls were obese:whereas 10% of boys and 9% of girls were underweight. By the Kaup index criteria, 7% of boys and 4% of girls were obese. By the percentage of body fat criteria, 5% of boys and girls were obese. The mean concentrations of serum total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Atherogenic Index and serum glucose were 154.1 - 156.5 mg/dL, 80.1 - 81.9 mg/dL, 46.8 - 47.4 mg/dL, 90.9 - 92.8 mg/dL, 2.34 - 2.39 and 76.4 - 77.8 mg/dL, respectively. Serum triglyceride level, AI and body fat percentage of obese children were significantly higher than other children and were significantly lower in HDL-cholesterol level (p < 0.05). In addition there were significant correlation between anthropometric values and serum biochemical indices:Kaup index and obesity index were positively correlated to the systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure in boys and girls (p < 0.01) and to the triglyceride concentration in boys (p < 0.05). These results indicate the need of developing and implementation of nutrition education program for preschool children to prevent further development of childhood obesity and to maintain normal serum lipid profiles.
