Dermal wound healing is a complex process that involved inflammation leading to re-epithelialization, granulation tissue, and tissue remodeling. Previous studies from our laboratory have shown that polysaccharides isolated from fungus, Phellinus gilvus (PG) have various anti-inflammatory activities. In present study, we have assessed the effect of polysaccharides from PG on the dermal wound healing of polysaccharides from PG in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rat model. Six of 6-mm circular wounds were created with biopsy punch on the 4th day after induction of diabetes. After 24 hours, each test substance was applied to the wound twice a day for next 5 days. Circular wounds treated with PG showed significantly reduced wound contraction and complete reepithelialization, as compared to wounds of non-treated (p < 0.05). These results show that polysaccharides isolated from PG enhanced wound repair in diabetic impaired healing, and could be developed as a wound healing agent in such clinical settings.

Kerion celsi caused by Trichophyton(T.) rubrum is rare endemically and there has been no report of it in Korean literatures. We report a case of karion celsi caused by T. rubrum in a 71-year-old male, who showed anindurated, swollen, boggy mass exuding pus on the right parietal scalp for about 7 weeks. The colonies and microconidia were identified as T. rubrum by fungus culture in potato dextrose agar. After administration of itraconazole for 11 weeks, the lesion was healed and the regrowing of new hairs was observed.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1999;37(5):603-609
BACKGROUND: Mycosis fungoides(MF) is a form of cutaneous T cell lymphoma with clonal differentiation of helpr' T cell. It has a patch, plaque, and tumor stage. But pathogenetic factors controlling the development and progression of MF are still unclear. Apoptosis plays a major role in developmental biology and homeostasis. The bcl-2 oncogene prolongs ce11 life by inhibiting apoptosis. The mutant pS3 gene induces apoptosis indirectly. Ki-67 antigen is the cell proliferation marker. Recently, it has been shown that the relationships among them are important in the tumorigenesis of the various tumors. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to examine the expression of these genes and apoptotic rate and clarify the relationship among them in the development and progression of MF. METHODS: The eighteen specimens from 8 patients with MF and 10 specimens from benign lymphocytic infiltrating diseases including 5 lichen planus, 3 lupus erythematosus, and 2 contact dermatitis were included. We performed immunoperoxidase staining(LSAB technique) using monoclonal antibodies including bc1-2, p~53, and Ki-67(MIB1). We used ApoptaqTM(Oncor) in situ labelling kit for detecting apoptotic cell.

Korean Journal of Urology 1983;24(2):195-202
A clinical evaluation was done on Il patients with postrenal acute renal failure who were admitted to the Busan National University Hospital during the period of 6 years and 8 months from Jan. 1976 to Aug. 1982. The results were as follow. 1. The patients were mean ages of 44.3 years, being thought somewhat older than other cause of renal failure. And the male was more frequently affected than the female. 2. The 2 most common causes of postrenal acute renal failure in 11 patients were malignant neoplasms (5 patients; 1 bladder Ca. 3 cervical Ca. and 1 retroperitoneal metastatic Ca.) and ureteral calculi (5 patients; 2 bilateral and 3 unilateral in solitary renal unit). 3. Ureteral obstructions were bilateral in 7 patients (14 ureters) and unilateral in 4 patients (4 ureters) in the solitary kidney. The involved site of ureteral obstructions were bilateral lower ureters in 5 patients (10 ureters), bilateral upper ureters in 1 patient (2 ureters), unilateral right upper ureter and left lower ureter in 1 patient 12 ureteral, and unilateral lower ureter in 4 patients (4 ureter). 4. Seven patients were treated with urinary diversion, 3 with ureteral catheterization and 1 with ureterolithotomy. Among 7 patients of urinary diversion, nephrotomy was done in 6 patients and double-barreled ureterocutaneostomy in 1 patient. 5. The prognosis was excellent in 10 patients and 1 patient was expired due to uremia and generalized marasmus following malignant neoplasm.

Annals of Dermatology 1995;7(3):273-277
We report two cases of malignant lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue arising in the conjunctiva. Case 1, an 18-year-old girl, showed her left lower conjunctival swelling for four months and Case 2, a 29-year-old man, showed similar lesions on both his eyes for one year. Histologically, both cases revealed monomorphous dense lymphoid infiltrates invading the overlying conjunctival epithelium with diffuse patterns. The infiltrates were composed of small lymphocytes admixed with centrocyte-like cells within the conjunctival epithelium and stroma in association with B-cell lineage. No relapse was noted during the period of about 1½ years follow-up in case 1 treated by local excision only and in the follow-up period of 2 months in case 2 treated by local excision and subsequent chemotherapy.

8.The Effectiveness of Suction - or Cryo - induced Bulla Fluids on the Growth of the Fibroblasts.
Ki Beom SUHR ; Kyung Hoon KIM ; Woo Jae LEE ; Jang Kyu PARK
Korean Journal of Dermatology 1995;33(1):85-91
BACKGROUND: Wound fluid is believed to contain growth factors produced by cells involved in the healing process. One of the beneficial effect of occlusive dreesing is the retention of released fluid from the wound, which is thought to accelerate wound healing. However, there was no report how suction-induced or cryo-induced bulla flicmight affect the healing of the wound itself. OBJECTIVE: Therefore, we have examined the effect of sucior-or cryo-induced bulla fluids on the in vitro growth of human dermal fibroblasts. METHODS: Suction-or cryo-induced bulla fluid were sterilely collected from the suction blisters and cryotherapy induced bulla, respectively. After seeding in optimal growth media on day 0, cultures of normal fibroblasts were supplemented with various concentrations of human serum, suction-induced bulla fluid, and cryo-induced bulla fiuid on day 2, 4, 6, 7, or 8. RESULTS: As determined by cell counts or 3H-thymidine incorporation, the effect of human serum were much more than those of suction-induced. Bulla fluid on the growht of fibroblasts. Although slight mitogenic effects were observed in the case of 5% cuyo-induced bulla fluid, 10% cryo-induced bulla fluid inhibited the growth of the fibroblasts as wello CONCLUSION: These results suggested that suction-induced bulla fluid was not a whole human serum but a diluted serous material having limited stimited stimulated effect to the growth of the fibroblasts, and cryo-induced bulla held the unknown inhibitory or toxic factors as well.

9.Effect of Family-Participated Delivery in a Labor Delivery Room on the Childbirth of Primiparas.
Myung Jae JANG ; Kyung Sook PARK
Korean Journal of Women Health Nursing 2002;8(3):371-379
The purpose of the present study is to consider its effect on the childbirth of a woman. This is a quasi-experimental study with nonequivalent control group post-test design. The subjects of this study are 60 primiparas (30 in the control, and another 30 in the experimental group) who have had a regular prenatal care from February 5 to March 20, 2002, in an outpatient obstetrics and gynecology of S university medical center located in Seoul. The result is as follows: 1. The hours of labor pains in the entire delivery period: the average hours are 7 hr. 9 min. in the experimental group, and 10 hr. 39 min. in the control group. The hours of labor pains are shorter in the woman with a family delivery experience in LDR. The difference is statistically significant (t=-3.34, p=.001). 2. The degree of pains in the entire delivery period: the average degree is 7.38 in the experimental group, and 7.68 in the control group. The degree of labor pains are lower in the woman with a family delivery experience in LDR. But, the difference is statistically insignificant (t=-0.86, p=.396). 3. The perceptions of the delivery experience: the average score of the perception is 73.63 in the experimental group, and 63.57 in the control group. The women with a family delivery experience in LDR have more positive perception of the delivery procedure, and, the difference is statistically significant (t=4.65, p=.000). In summary of the above result, a family- participated delivery in LDR is proved to be an effective nursing intervention that shortens the hours spent in the delivery procedure and promotes positive perceptions of the delivery experience.
