1.The Psychiatric Problem of Male infertility Patients by Symptom Check List-90 (SCL-90).
Korean Journal of Fertility and Sterility 1998;25(3):349-353
It has been well known that infertile women experience not only emotional disturbance but also stress. But there is no concern about male infertility patients. So phychiat.ic symptoms were studied with SCL-90 (Symptom Check List-90) in 30 infertile men who was operated testicular sperm extraction (TESE) in Samsung Cheil Hospital and in age matched 31 fertile men from Jan. 1998 to Aug. 1998. In 5 symptom dimensions (Obcessive-Compulsive, Interpersonal Sensitivity, Depression, Phobic anxiety, Psychoticisim) scores. The Infertile group scored significantly higher than the control group. The result revealed that infertile men also experienced substantially more psychiatric symptoms than fertile men. Considering this results, psychiatric evaluation and tender care by infertility specialist are necessary for infertile men during and after evaluation and treatment.

2.A Study on Total Lactic Dehydrogenase (LD) Activity and Its Isoenzymes in Neoplastic Tissue of Stomach Carcinoma.
Korean Journal of Pathology 1989;23(3):279-286
This sutdy was performed to find out a LD isoenzyme pattern in neoplastic tissue of gastric carcinoma and in gastric mucosa with intestinal metaplasia, which has been known as premalignant lesion. The specimens used in this study were 18 stomachs with caarcinoma and 8 stomachs with peptic ulcer as control, and wer obtained by subtotal or total gastrectomy at Pusan National University Hsopital from Oct. 1987 to Sept. 1988. Total LD activity and its isoenzymes in body and antral mucosae and neoplastic tissue of stomach were assayed, and analysed statistically from several points of view. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1) There was no significant difference in total LD activity between univolved body and antral mucosae of stomach with carcinoma, and between mucosa of stomach with peptic ulcer and univolved mucosa of stomach with carcinoma. 2) Total LD activity in the neoplastic tissue of gastric carcinoma was significantly higher than those of univolved body and antral mucosae of stomach with carcinoam or that of stomach with peptic ulcer, but no significant difference was observed among histological types of gastric carcinoma. 3) The uninvolved body mucosa of stomach with carcinoma or peptic ulcer showed a pattern of LD1 predominance and increas of H to M ratio, while the antral mucosa of stomach with carcinoma or peptic ulcer showed a pattern of LD3 predominance and decrease of H to M ratio. 4) The LD4 and LD5 fractions in antral mucosa with moderate to severe intestinal metaplasia were slightly increased than those of antral mucosa with nil to mild intestinal metaplasia, but did not show statistically significant difference. 5) Marked increase of LD5 fraction was found in neoplastic tissue of gastric carcinoma, and thus ratio of H to M subunit in neoplastic tissue was significantly lower, as compared with body or antral univolved mucosa of stomach. In conclusion, the neoplastic tissue of gastric carcinoma and gastric mucosa with intestinal metaplasia show substantially predominant "M" subunit as well as increased total LD activity.

Journal of Korean Neuropsychiatric Association 2011;50(3):205-211
OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to develop a carbohydrate-preference rating scale (CPRS) and to investigate its validity and reliability. METHODS: A 10-item questionnaire was developed or selected by three psychiatrists. The questionnaire was administered to 157 female college students in Seoul. Construct validity was investigated by performing a principal component analysis, and reliability was assessed in terms of internal consistency using Cronbach's alpha. RESULTS: The principal component analysis revealed three factors underlying carbohydrate prefer-ences : habits of carbohydrate consumption, ability to control the consumption of carbohydrates and body weight, and the addition of sugar when drinking coffee. Taken together, these three factors accounted for 57.390% of the common variance. Cronbach's alpha was high, indicating the reliability of the questionnaire was satisfactory. When comparing the total score of the questionnaire by T test, the eating disorder group showed higher score than the control group. CONCLUSION: The results indicate that the CPRS is a reliable and valid scale for assessing carbo-hydrate preferences. Although there are a lot of limitations, present study has significance as the basis of future research.

Korean Journal of Pathology 1985;19(1):88-91
Malignant acanthosis nigricans is very rare disease. The disease is related with internal malignancy, especially gastrointestinal tract malignancy. Reported occurrence rate of malignant acanthosis nigricans associated internal malignancies are 64% of stomach adenocarcinoma, 27% of other organs of abdomen (liver, gall bladder, small intestine, rectum, uterus, ovary), 9% of non-abdominal organs(breast, lung). We report a case of malignant acanthosis nigricans associated with stomach adenocarcinoma from 20-year-old female and discuss review of literature on a acanthosis nigricans briefly.

Korean Journal of Blood Transfusion 2023;34(2):133-135
The ABO blood type was discovered by Karl Landsteiner in 1901. The frequency of occurrence of the ABO blood type in Korea was reported in the journal of the Joseon Medical Association in 1922. The status of 54 transfusions at one medical clinic in 1924 was reported at a medical congress in 1925. Many direct transfusion cases in Korea were identified by a literature search for articles published during the 1920s.

Korean Journal of Physical Anthropology 1999;12(2):305-314
This study examined the effects of aging on nitric oxide synthase (NOS) and vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP)-positive neurons of the cerebral cortex in young (4 months) and aged (24 months) Wistar rats. Expressional change was assessed by histochemistry, immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR. Nitric oxide (NO) is synthesized by cells containing NOS, and NADPH-diaphorase is a selective histochemical marker for the NOS in the brain. In this study, the coexistence of NADPH-d and VIP was not found in the cerebral cortex of both groups. In the aged group, the number of NADPH-d positive neurons was not significantly changed in cerebral cortex than control groups. However, the number of VIP positive neurons was significantly decreased in cerebral cortex of the aged rats. NADPH-d and VIP positive neurons exhibited morphological characteristics of multipolar or bipolar in most neurons. In the aged group, NADPH-d and VIP positive nerve fibers were more irregular and tortuous compared to the control group. Perikaryal size of NADPH-d positive neurons was not significantly different in both groups. However, significant shrinkage of VIP positive neurons was found in the aged group. The enzyme activity of NADPH-d was increased in the aged group. The basal level of mRNA for NOS and VIP was detected in the cerebral cortex of control group. The expression level of iNOS mRNA was decreased in the aged group. The mRNA for nNOS, eNOS and VIP was not significantly different in both groups. The selective depletion and atrophy VIP positive neurons from the cerebral cortex of aged rats may reflect an increased vulnerability of VIP positive neurons to the aging process compared with NOS positive neurons.
