The purpose of this study was to evaluate the amount and interrelationship of the soft and hard tissue change after mandibular setback surgery in skeletal Class III malocclusion. The sample consisted of 25 adult patient (12 male and 13 female) who had severe anteropostrior skeletal discepancy. These patient had received presurgical orthodontic treatment and surgical treatment which is bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy. The presurgical and postsurgical lateral cephalograms were evaluated. The computerized statistical analysis was carried out with SPSS/PC program. The result were as follows: 1. After mandibular bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy, lower facial soft tissue horizontal posterior changes were high significance value. but vertical soft tissue changes were low significance value. 2. After mandibular bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy, relative upper lip protrusion increased(p<0.01) and relative lower lip protrusion decreased(p<0.01) and lower facial soft tissue thickness increased(p<0.01).

174 patients who visited in the Department of Dentistry, College of Medicine, Yeungnam University from 1983. 7. 15 to 1986. 11. 30 were surveyed on the tendency of patient distribution and the state of Angle's classification. The results were as follows 1. There was increased visiting rate of patient per year. Female outnumbered male by a ratio of 1.3:1. 2. 8-15 age group was 74% in total visiting in the most frequency. The average visiting numbers of each month were higher among the vacation and was about 74% in that period. 3. As showed the living distribution, Nam Go and Su Sung Gu's patients were 53% of the total. 4. As the motive of visiting in Dental Department, patient of 30% in total patients visited for themself to receive orthodontic treatment and other was introduced patients. 5. By classification, Class I malocclusion was 63% in total visiting patient, Class II malocclusion 17%, Class III malocclusion 20%. Crowding among Class I malocclusion was 60%.

A series of 38 pediatric stone patients was studied retrospectively according to the clinical patterns of urolithiasis, etiology of stone disease, and management. The idiopathic cause was the most common of stone formation in the children. The most common type of stone in analysis was calcium oxalate. Thus, the etiology of stone disease and composition of stone was not definitely different in comparison with adult stone disease. We treated almost of stone patients with ESWL and peration was done in case of EWSL failure. And ESWL is the most effective and safe treatment of pediatric urolithiasis at present time. But anesthesia is needed to perform ESWL, especially younger children.

Mandibular retrusion showing the facial problem with a marked maxillarry incisors protrusion and chin deficiency, resulting in a highly convex profile is uncommon in Korea.. The large incisor overjet and deep-bite create functional limitations and unpleasing esthetic result. The majority of theses cases are susceptible to correction by orthodontic therapeutic methods. But severe Class II retrognathic cases in which orthodontic treatment alone has not been capable of achieving good results. Orthognathic surgery offers several approaches. In this case, mandibular advancement by bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy and augmentation genioplasty has a special surgical problems. The suprahyoid muscle gorup are lengthened if the body of the mandible is surgically repositioned anteriorly. Instability of results and relapse return to original position shoud predicted during post-surgical muscular readjustment.. To maintain maximum correction with this technique, it is suggested that the mandibular body be well rotated forward at time of surgical intervention and overcorrected anteriory as much as possible. So, the authors report the case with review of concerned literature.

In this study, a computerized nutritional and health guide program for workers was developed. The dietitian at the work site could utilize periodically conducted medical examination data to develop an effective health care counseling model based on the developed Nutritional and Health Guide Program. A personal computer (Pentium II PC MMX-150, 32MB RAM, 2.95 GB HDD) with Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Enterprise Edition and Microsoft Access 97 installed, was used. The Nutritional and Health Guide Program consisted of seven main menus and 43 sub-menus. Included in the main menu were Basic Information, Periodic Health Check-ups, Visitors' Consultations, Nutritional/Health Tips, Nutritional Education according to Diseases, Help and Exit. In the Periodic Health Check-up menu, dieticians could input the health examination data of employees and touch for the recommended treatments for diseases such as obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension and hepatitis. The Visitors' Consultation menu has been designed to compile health information about the employees who sought consultations. The Nutritional/Health Tips menu was designed to provide 14 kinds of programmed nutritional educational media and information. In the Nutritional Education According to Diseases menu, the dietitian could judge the subject's willingness to obtain treatment based on the Stage of Change Model. According, the content of the administered respective nutritional education was classified by stages. The Help menu, provide a chart of the method and procedure used as nutritional guidelines, by which the results of the health examination were classified as people in good health and those requiring special medical attention. The results of the evaluation of this program showed highly positive rates for usefulness (4.09), convenience (4.04), lettering size (4.02), interest (3.93), design (3.49). It also showed that 97.5% of the subjects thought that this program would be helpful for implementation of their company's nutritional educational program. Therefore, this menu could help dietitians plan, conduct, and evaluate their nutritional guidelines for employees. It is expected that The Nutritional and Health Guide Program developed in this study will play a role as a scientific and effective guide in conjunction with health examination results.

Hereditary anhidrotic ectodermal dysplasia is a rare condition characterized by underdeveloped ectodermal structure including the skin, teeth or skin appendages. The patient has characteristic feature of anhidrosis, hypotrichosis and defective dentition. We experienced a case of hereditary anhidrotic ectodermal dysplasia in a l-month-old male infant who had unexplained recurring fever, anhidrosis and characteristic facial feature, so we established the diagnosis with clinical feature and skin biopsy.

Enlargement of the gingival caused by phenytoin. An anticonvulsant used in the treatment of epilepsy, occurs in some of the patients receiving the drug. Its incidence varies from 3 to 62 percent, with the greater frequencies in younger patients. The hyperplasia is usually generalized throughout the mouth, but is more severe tendency in the maxillary and mandibular anterior regions. 18 year old male patient was admitted to our Department of Dentistry with the complaint of generalized painless gingival swelling. After the consult of the N.M. and laboratory study, the gingivectomy and gingivoplasty was performed. The periodontal pack and tin foil was applied on the attached gingival to protect a surgical site and bleeding control. We obtained a good result of improved esthetics and function.

Single photon emission computed tomographic(SPECT) imaging, performed at oral and maxillofacial surgery department, is valuable in assessing temporomandibular dysfunction, looking for metastases in patients with malignancies, diagnosing facial asymmetry. Conventional planar scintigraphy is limited by two-dimensional representation of three-dimensional structures. The SPECT exam, by sectioning through a distribution of tracer, eliminates the obscuring effects of tracer located outside the plane of interest. In our department, we used this image for four type cases retrospectively. 1. Those patients who have facial asymmetry 2. To find metastases in patients with malignacies 3. In combination with magnetic resonance imagine, to confirm the diagnosis of internal joint derangement 4. To evaluate the viability of grafted bone. Recently, this image is able to be used in those patients whose symptoms etiology cannot be explained by other diagnostic techniques.
