1.A Survey on the Hearing Disturbance of High School Students in Korea.
Korean Journal of Preventive Medicine 1972;5(1):115-123
As a link of chain study program of school health, a survey was made up by the screening test with audiometry for hearing disturbance on 18,675 high school students who are mainly aged in 15-19 years from November 5.1969 to October 30. 1970. The results obtained were summarized as follows. According to our criteria as table 3, the rates of the profound , the severe and the moderate who required the appropriate hearing aids were 0.02%, 0.03% and 0.14% respectively : the cumulative percentage was 0.197. When the marginal, 0.23% should be included the cumulative rate was 0.41%. But there was no significance by sex and school classes. If we will make the special classes for them one class would be estimated out of 10,000 persons when a class is formed with about 15 persons. Otherwise when we examined that according to each ear of persons, the rates of the profound, the severe and the moderate were 0.17%, 0.22% and 0.33% respectively and their cumulative perventage was 0.72. There was no significance also by sex and age. By the way, the rate of hearing disturbance in urban high school students tended to lower than rural. And the perceptive disturbance was higher than rural in rate. The conductive disturbance tended to oppose in comparison with the above.

The authors obtained the following results through comparative investigation between experiences from authors clinical study of ureterolithotomy by posterior vertical incision devised by Gil-Vernet and Yoon`s clinical study of ureterolithotomy by posterior vertical incision and his lumbar incision. 1. Operation time was average 62 min. and blood loss was average about 50cc. So operation time and blood loss were similar to Yoon`s result but more or less reduced as compared with lumbar incision. 2. Postoperative urine leakage and ambulation time were 1 day and 2 day that were more or less reduced as compared with Yoon`s result. 3. Ipsilateral lower abdominal wall protrusion was noted postoperatively. We think, this is from subcostal nerve injury. 4. Postoperatively sensation change on subcostal nerve, ilohypogastric nerve and ilioinguinal nerve innervation sites were noted in half of all, but disappeared in several weeks. Considering above results, while posterior vertical incision has merits such as minimal operative invasion and early postoperative ambulation time, but it often notes inevitable nerve damage. So, we think better results would be gained by careful attention to nerve and vascular distribution.

A total of 120 infants, children, and teenagers, who were admitted to the Department of Pediatrics, Severance Hospital from April 1989 to August 1989, were examined by cross-sectional echocardiography. Right and left atrial and ventricular dimensions and areas were measured in the parasternal, apical, and subcostal views. Dimensions of the inferior caval vein, the pulmonary and the aorta were obtained in the parasternal, suprasternal, and subcostal views. The results were as follows : 1) Statistical analysis showed no difference between boys and girls. 2) For all parameters, a positive linear correlation was found with age, height, weight, and body surface area. The best correlation was with body surface area. 3) The correlation was further improved if the logarithmic values of the measurements and body surface area were considered. 4) Measurements by cross-sectional echocardiography are clinically useful, especially in the study of the right-sided cardiac structures that are difficult to evaluate with M-mode echocardiography, but the problems of reproducibility have to be taken into account.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1978;19(1):101-105
Osteoma is relatively rare benign tumor of non-inflammatory origin having a circumscribed form, a definite periosteal covering forming a line of cleavage from adjacent structures and showing active participation of osteoblasts. The tumor commonly originates in a nasal accessory sinus or calvaria and may invade the orbit relatively early in its growth, causing ocular disability prior to localizing signs in the smus. We have reported a giant osteoma in an adult having right eye protrusion, pain and interference of eyeball movements. The mass was totally removed by transcranial route successfully with no development of significant complications. The mass was extremely hard, well circumscribed and extended into right frontal, ethmoidal sinuses and orbital cavity.

Splenic anomalies are commonly associated with anomalies of cardiovascular system and of other organ systems. "Polysplenia" refers to the state in which the bulk of splenic tissue is divided into two and others more equal-sized splenic masses. We experienced a case of Polysplenia associated with complicated cardiovascular anomalies(Situs ambiguus, D-loop, normally related great arteries, interrupted inferior vena cave, bilateral superior vena cava, single atrium, common A-V canal, infundibular stenosis). We have presented this rare case and reviewed brief literatures.
