BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: N-cadherin is known to be expressed in neuroectodermal tissue such as central nervous system and various mesodermal origin tissues such as kidney and heart. We investigated N-cadherin expression in the endocardial cushion in developing rat heart by immunohistochemical method. MATERIALS AND METHOD: Fetal rat hearts at the 11th, 13th, 15th, 17th, and 19th day of gestation and the 1st day neonatal rat heart were used. Hematoxylin and eosin stain was performed for normal cardiogenesis, and immunohistochemistry was performed for the expression of N-cadherin in interventricular septum(IVS) during cardiogenesis in rat. RESULTS: Ventricular wall and membranous part of the IVS showed positive reaction with anti-N-cadherin at the 11th day of gestation. Membranous part of IVS was begun to show tracely positive reaction at the 15th day of gestation, and thereafter the immunoreactivity was increased with maturation. At the 17th day of gestation mesenchymal cells in membranous muscular part of the IVS showed positive reaction. The similar immunoreactivity of membranous and muscular parts of IVS were shown at the 19th day of gestation. CONCLUSION: As the immunoreaction of mesenchymal cells in the membraneous part of IVS to anti-N-cadherin was increased with time, it is suggested that mesenchymal cells in membranous part of IVS were differentiated into the cardiomyocytes.

A case of Lichen planus in 41 year old with predisposing emotional factor is reported here and reviewed therapeutic experiences and reveiwed of literatures. This patient who has been suffering from pruritic, dull erythematous maculo-papular eruptions of trunk and extremites which was preoccupied with imagination as if she were exposed sequela to atomic bomb explosion in Japan, World War II, is presented.

BACKGROUND: Peak expiratory flow (PEF) provides a simple, quantitative, and reproducible measure of the existence and severity of airflow obstructions. Peak flow meters are designed to monitor the condition asthma patients. There are many reports showing the normal predicted value of PEF in other countries. studies on healthy Korean adults have been performed in a relatively small sample number and a lower limit for the normal value was not reported. therefore, an attempt to provide normal predictive PEF value with a lower limit was made. METHOD: The PEF(Mini-Wright peak Flow Meter) measurements and spirometry were done in 233 men and 631 woman without history of respiratory disease. all subjects were non-smokers with no respiratory symptoms. the normal predictive value and its lower limit were developed by multiple regression analysis. The result was compared with regression equations in other reports. RESULTS: The regression equation for the normal PEF predictive value(L/min) is 25.117+4.587×Age(year)-0.064×Age2+2.931×Height(cm) in men in men(R2=0.25), and 146.942-0.011×Age2+1.795×Height(cm)+0.836×Weight (kg) in women(R2=0.21). The regression equation for the lower limit of this value (L/min) is 25.117+4.587×Age(year)-0.064×Age2+1.936×Height (cm) in men, and 146.942-0.011×Age2+1.232× Height (cm)+0.481×Weight (kg) in women. The residuals were normally distributed. The PEF in Korean males was similar to those reported in British and Japanese subjects. The PEF in Korean females was similar to that in British subjects, But higher than the PEF in Japanese subjects. The lower limit of normal value was 71% of normal predictive PEF value in men and 76% in women. CONCLUSION: The normal predictive PEF value and its lower limit was measured from 233 male and 631 female asymptomatic, lifelong non-smoking participants. The normal predictive value was different from those of other studies on Korean subjects. Therefore, further studies are required.

Natural Killer (NK) cells are a subpopulation of in vivo activated lymphocytes that display spontaneous cytotoxicity against a variety of targets as virus-infeeted, and transformed neoplastic cells, in major histocompatibility-unrestricted fashion. Depression of the NK aetivity in patients with advanced stages of various types of solid neopls,sms appears to be dependent upon the prcgressive growth and metastatic spread of the tumor. There are many reports that different distribution of subpopulations of lymphocytes in neopiastic tissue may influence the prognosis of the patients, In this study, we have performed immunohistochemieal study with Leu-7, MT1, LN2, and antilysozyrne antiserum on the tissue of uterine cervieal dysplasia and cancer to investigate the distribution of the NK cell, T cell, B cell, and macrophage. The results were as follows ; 1. The major subpopulation of lymphocytes infiltrating the lesion of intraepithelial neoplasia and squamous cell carcinama was T cell. 2. The number of infiltrated. lymphocytes was layer in the lesion of keratinzing type than in that of non keratinizing and small cell earcinorna of the uterine cervix. 3. NK cell was more frequently noted in the malignant lesion than the dysplastic lesion.
