1.Safety and Efficacy of Intravitreal Ganciclovir Injections More than 10 Times for Cytomegalovirus Retinitis.
Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 2016;57(2):316-323
PURPOSE: To study the treatment outcomes in patients who were administered multiple intravitreal ganciclovir injections more than 10 times alone without systemic anti-cytomegalovirus therapy for cytomegalovirus retinitis. CASE SUMMARY: A 64-year-old man who underwent immunosuppressive therapy after thymectomy due to an invasive thymoma and pure red-cell aplasia, a 60-year-old woman who underwent chemotherapy after diagnosis of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, a 49-year-old man with a history of bone marrow transplantation due to acute myeloid leukemia, a 29-year-old woman with dermatomyositis treated with oral steroids and cyclosporine, and a 47-year-old woman who received intravitreal dexamethasone implant injections, intravitreal and subtenon steroid injections due to Behcet's disease were diagnosed with cytomegalovirus retinitis. All patients showed systemic complications such as pancytopenia after systemic anti-cytomegalovirus therapy, and therefore, they were administered multiple intravitreal ganciclovir injections alone. Best-corrected visual acuities improved in all patients, except in one case, where viral lesions were observed in the fovea. Retinal hemorrhaging and infiltrative lesions decreased in all patients. No severe complication was observed during the injection and in the follow-up period. CONCLUSIONS: Multiple intravitreal ganciclovir injections alone can be used as a treatment modality for cytomegalovirus retinitis to avoid the systemic side effects of systemic anti-cytomegalovirus therapy.

Esophageal ulcers induced by doxycycline is a rare complication. These patients usually complain of sudden onset of symptoms, ie acute substernal or chest pain and odynophagia without prior hietory of esophageal syraptoms. On esophagoscopic examination, there are upper or midesophageal ulcers, which heal after diseontinuation of the drug within 2 weeks. A history of ingestion of the doxycycline, with liquid jost before bedtime can be elicited. The exact eause of the xaucosal ulceration is not clear, but a direct irritant effeet on esophageal mucosa seems most likely. We report 5 cases of esophageal uleeration secondary to the ingestion of doxycydine. Esophagoscopy revealed esophageal ulcers in all patients and the patients hecame asymptomatic following stopping of tbe drugs and taking antacids.

Korean Journal of Urology 1998;39(10):963-967
PURPOSE: Although it is well known that surgical treatment has been gold standard in most cases of ureteral stricture, but its effect was not satisfactory. The development of balloon catheters and advances in endourology offer attractive alternative management compared to surgery in the treatment of urethral strictures. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of balloon dilatation as an alternative treatment in the management of benign ureteral stricture. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We reviewed the records of 32 patients, treated during the last 5 years for benign ureteral stricture disease. Balloon dilatation of benign ureteral strictures were performed in a percutaneous antegrade(10 patients) or retrograde(22 patients) fashion followed by placement of a 6 Fr. stent for 6-8 weeks. The underlying diseases or conditions of the benign ureteral stricture were tuberculous ureteritis in 15, surgery to ureter in 8, iatrogenic cause in 5, and primary cause in 4. RESULTS: The over-all rate of succesful management of benign ureteral stricture diseases using endoscopic techniques was 75 percent. The significant complications were not observed in all patients. CONCLUSIONS: Based on the result of our experiences, we suggest the use of balloon dilatation as the initial treatment method in benign urethral stricture.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1985;21(6):923-935
The combination of the various diagnostic methods of palpable breast mass has improved the diagnosticaccuracy. From Sep.1983 to Aug. 1985 pathologically proven 85 patients with palpable breast masses examined withX-ray mammography, ultrasonography, penumomammography and aspiration cytology at Korea Cancer Center Hospital wereanalyzed. The diagnostic accuracies of each methods were 77.6% of mammogram, 74.1% of ultrasonomgram, 90.5% ofpenumommaogram and 92.4% of aspiration cytology. Pneumommamograms was accomplished without difficulty orcomplication and depicted more clearly delineated mass with various pathognomonic findings; air-ductal pattern infibroadenoma(90.4%) and cystosarcoma phylloides(100%), air-halo in fibrocystic disease(14.2%), fibroadenoma(100%),cystosarcoma phylloides (100%), air-cystogram in cystic type of fibrocystic disease(100%) and vaculoar pattern orirregular air collection without retained peripheral gas in carcinoma.

The incidence of contralateral reflux after unilateral reimplantation in children with primary unilateral vesicoureteral reflux(VUR) is reported to be 0.8-32%. We evaluated the characteristics of contralateral reflux after endoscopic or open surgical correction of primary unilateral VUR in children. 30 children who underwent unilateral reimplantation by Paquin (25pts) and submucosal Macroplastique injection(5pts) were evaluated. The association between postoperative contralateral reflux and age, sex, ipsilateral implant side, postoperative urinary tract infection, and surgical method were evaluated. There were 18 male and 12 female patients. Initial reflux was observed in the right in 18 and 12 in left. The initial reflux grades were II, III, IV, and V in 2, 11, 14, and 3 patients, respectively. Postoperative urinary tract infection was observed in 4 patients of whom 1 had contralateral reflux. In conclusion, there was no single factor that could predict the development of contralateral reflux after unilateral correction of unilateral primary VUR. Furthermore, the fact that contralateral reflux occurred even after submucosal Macroplastique injection suggests that the method of surgery is not related to the subsequent development of contralateral reflux.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 2009;50(3):481-485
PURPOSE: To report a case of a 9-year-old girl who complained of a floater symptom due to preretinal hemorrhage, subdural hemorrhage and arachnoid cyst. CASE SUMMARY: A 9-year-old girl presented to our clinic with floater symptom in her right eye and a headache. Her corrected visual acuities were 20/20 in both eyes. Preretinal hemorrhage around the optic disc in both eyes was observed. Brain MRI revealed subdural hemorrhage on the frontal, temporal, and parietal lobes, and the arachnoid cyst in the right fronto-temporal lobe. One year later, the preretinal hemorrhages were absorbed. CONCLUSIONS: Arare case of concomitant preretinal and spontaneous subdural hemorrhage with arachnoid cyst was presented. The utilization of brain MRI is recommended to determine underlying causes when fundus examination reaveals retinal hemorrhage without trauma, systemic disease and neurologic symptom.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 2020;61(10):1164-1168
Purpose:
To evaluate the short-term ophthalmic side effects of bilateral same-day intravitreal bevacizumab injections.
Methods:
We retrospectively analyzed patients who underwent intravitreal bevacizumab injection in both eyes on the same day from January 2015 to June 2019. The patients were followed up at 1 day, 1 week, and 1 month after the injection.
Results:
A total of 281 patients (153 males and 128 females) and 562 eyes were included in the study, and 950 bilateral same-day intravitreal bevacizumab injections were performed. The mean age of patients was 58.87 ± 13.44 years. The most common cause of bilateral injection was that of complications due to diabetic retinopathy, which accounted for 66.3%, followed by age-related macular degeneration at 22.2%, retinal vein occlusion at 5.1%, and central serious chorioretinopathy at 2.1%. There were 0 cases of endophthalmitis after 950 injections, 13 cases of subconjunctival hemorrhage, and 17 patients with a temporary elevation of intraocular pressure. There were 11 patients with acute intraocular inflammation after bilateral injection, but none in both eyes. Patients with acute intraocular inflammation were followed up at short-term intervals until they improved. All patients showed complete improvement within 2 weeks after injection. Comparing the patients’ condition before and after injection, visual acuity improved (p < 0.001).
Conclusions
In terms of the frequency of short-term ophthalmic adverse events, bilateral same-day intravitreal bevacizumab injection is a safe procedure with fewer side effects and is more convenient for both the patient and the doctor.
