A 19 month old girl with trisomy 18 is described. She showed loose folds of skin about the neck, a prominent occiput, a simian crease on both palms, epicanthal folds, acrocephaly, micrognathia, and unusual dermatologic features including total alopecia and no finger prints on either hands. Because of the simian crease on both palms, dermatoglyphics of both hands and total alopecia, a skin biopsy from the scalp and a chromosomal study were established at age 19-months, and an absence of hair follicles was observed, while peripheral blood lymphocytes demonstrated 47, XX, 4-18. To our knowledge, this would be the first recorded report on the dermatoglyphic pattern of Edwards syndrome in a Korean journal of dermatology.

Acromioclavicular joint injuries are recently increased, but there are still controversies as to the proper choice of treatment. We treated thirty cases of acromioclavicular injuries, among these, twenty five cases were done by operative method and five cases conservatively from August 1979 to June 1988. The results were as follows, 1. The injuries were composed of one case of Type 1, 7 cases of Type 2 and 22 cases of Type 3. 2. The result of conservative treatment consisted of 2 cases of good, 1 case of fair and 2 cases of poor. 3. The final outcome of operative method was better than that of conservative one, which consisted of 16 cases of good and 9 cases of fair. 4. The cause of fair results in operative method was thought to residual lexity of the repaired coracoclavicular ligament. 5. The key point of operative treatment in acromioclavicular separation was firm and strong reconstruction of the coracoclavicular ligament. 6. Modified method of coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction using coracoacromial ligament with bone block has been tried.

Arotinolol, a new alpha and beta receptor antagonist, was administered in 27 essential hypertensive patients for 8 weeks in order to evaluate the antihypertensive effect and side effects. The dose were 10mg to 15mg given twice a day. The results are as follows : 1) Before medication, systolic and diastolic blood pressure in sitting, supine and erect position were 173.1+/-3.2/105.8+/-1.8, 171.1+/-3.6/86.7+/-2.0 and 169.3+/-2.6/97.2+/-2.1mmHg. 2) After 8 weeks treatment moderated to marked antihypertensive effect was observed in 74.0%(in systolic blood pressure) and 81.4%(in diastolic blood pressure) respectively in sitting position. 3) There was a significant reduction of pulse rate from 73.0+/-2.5 beats per minute on the beginning of the treatment to 63.4+/-5.2 beats per minute after 8 weeks of medication. 4) There was no significant change in hematocrit, WBC, serum lipid, GOT, GPT, BUN and creatinine. But fasting blood sugar was reduced from 95.3mg% to 81.5mg% with treatment. 5) The side effects of arotinolol were gastrointestinal symptoms(15%), fatigue(11%), dizziness(7%) and insomnia(3%). But these side effects were not severe enough to discontinue medication. In summary, arotinolol seemed to be an effective antihypertensive drug in treating mild to moderate hypertension without significant side effects.

Dieulafoy lesion is very small and easily overlooked as a course of massive, often recurrent hemorrhage that results from the crosion of a submucosal artery, typically in the gastric cardia or fundus. The clinical picture of Dieulafoy lesion is quite uniform: patients commonly present with massive hemorrhage and melena without any relevant history. The diagnostic procedure of choice in patients with severe gastrointestinal bleeding is emergency endoscopy. The lesion is rare but potentially life threatening source of upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Before the endoscopic era, the prognosis for patients with these lesions was quite poor. However, recent reports have described the success of endoscopic therapy in the management of Dieulafoy lesion. We performed emergency endoscopy in 3 patients who had massive or recurrent episode of upper gastrointestinal bleeding, identified to the Dieulafoy lesion. We tried to Endoscopic "0" band ligation, successfully in hemostasis and prevention of recurrence.

The incidence of tuberculoma of the brain in different countries varies reatly. They form a high percentage of intracrnial lesions dealt with in countries of Asia, Eastern Europe, Italy, Spain and South America. The recent introduction of the potent antituberculosis remedies, far from diminishing the incidence of tuberculoma of the brain, is more likely to increase it. This case was a 18 year old male who had increased intracranial pressure signs and characteristic signs which was suggestive lesion in posterior fossa. Conray ventriculography revealed nearly total obstruction of distal portion of aqueduct of Sylvius with displacement to the right side. Intensive antituberclous treatment then was started after removal of tuberculoma in cerebellar vermis and then discharged with fully recovery. References were reviewed as will.

This study was conducted to evaluate the influence of the C-factor on the bond strength of a 6th generation self-etching system by measuring the microtensile bond strength of four types of restorations classified by different C-factors with an identical depth of dentin. Eighty human molars were divided into four experimental groups, each of which had a C-factor of 0.25, 2, 3 or 4. Each group was then further divided into four subgroups based on the adhesive and composite resin used. The adhesives used for this study were AQ Bond Plus (Sun Medical, Japan) and Xeno III (DENTSPLY, Germany). And composite resins used were Fantasista (Sun Medical, Japan) and Ceram-X mono (DENTSPLY, Germany). The results were then analyzed using one-way ANOVA, a Tukey's test, and a Pearson's correlation test and were as follows. 1. There was no significant difference among C-factor groups with the exception of groups of Xeno III and Ceram-X mono (p < 0.05). 2. There was no significant difference between any of the adhesives and composite resins in groups with C-factor 0.25, 2 and 4. 3. There was no correlation between the change in C-factor and microtensile bond strength in the Fantasista groups. It was concluded that the C-factor of cavities does not have a significant effect on the microtensile bond strength of the restorations when cavities of the same depth of dentin are restored using composite resin in conjunction with the 6th generation self-etching system.
