6.Histochemical and Immunohistochemical Properties of Endometrial and Endocervical Adenocarcinoma.
Korean Journal of Pathology 1988;22(3):259-267
The histologic differentiation of endometrial and endocervical adenocarcinomas is a common diagnostic problum of clinical importance, because the staging, treatment and prognosis of these lesions are quite different. First, we examined the distribution of acid mucin in endometrial and endocervical adenocarcinoma (23 cases and 25 cases repectively), but distinguishing differences between endometrial and endocervical adenocarcinoma, especially of endometrioid type, were not observed. Secondly, the distribution of low-molecular weight cytokeratin, vimentin and carcino-embryonic antigen (CEA) by immunohistochemistry were examined in formalin-fixed tissues. CEA was present in 88% of endocervical adenocarcinomas and 34.8% of endometrial adenocarcinoma. vimentin was found in 91.3% of endometrial adenocarcinomas, in contrast with only in 16% of endocervical adenocarcinomas. This study showed that the presence of vimentin in neoplastic glands, in which CEA is negative, may be helpful in the differential diagnosis of endometrial from endocervical adenocarcinomas.

9.Increased expression of the c-fos and c-myc oncogenes in psoriatic lesions.
Korean Journal of Dermatology 1991;29(3):331-336
The expression of the c-fos and c-myc oncogenes was investigated by dot blot analysis of total RNA extracted from biopsies of normal skin and psoriatic lesions. Densitometric analysis revealed 6.3 fold and 8.6 fold evevation respectively of c-fos and c-myc oncogenes mRNA levels in severe psoriasis compared to normal skin, and 1.5 fold and 1.6 fold elevation respectively of c-fos and c-myc oncogenes mRNA levels in mild psoriasis compared to normal skin. The ratio of c-fos/c-myc transcripts in normal skin and mild psoriasis was constant compared to that in severe psoriasis. The maintenance of a constant ratio of c-fos/c-myc is believed to be closely related to ordered cell growth and the ratio of c-fos/c-myc transcripts in severe psoriasis suggests a disordered pattern of cellular differentiation. We be1ieve that overexpression of these oncogenes is related to the pathogenesis of psoriatic epidermal hyperplasia.

10.Immunohistochemical Study of bcl - 2 Expression in Basal Cell Carcinoma.
Korean Journal of Dermatology 1997;35(2):242-248
BACKGROUND: Basal cell carcinoma(BCC) is the most common tumor of light-skinned people. Most of them are relatively innocuous, but some may cause extensive tissue destruction, and result in death by local infiltration of vital structure or metastatic disease. The bcl-2 is a protooncogene involved in tumorigenesis by blocking apoptosis or programmed cell death. OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether there was a difference in bcl-2 expression in different histopathological types of BCC. Method: We performed immunohistochemical staining by using a monoclonal mouse anti-human bcl-2 oncoprotein in 28 BCC(nodular: 7 cases, micronodular; 3 cases, adenoid; 1 case, infiltrative; 9 cases, and mixed; 8 cases). Result: All 28 BCC expressed bcl-2, and the degree of staining was different according to histopathological types; poor prognostic micronodular(100%) and infiltrative(73.3%) types were relatively strong, and nodular(66.7% ) and adenoid(75.0%) types were moderate. Conclusion . These results suggest that the degree of bcl-2 expression in BCC seems to be dependent to the histopathological types together with clinical behavior.
