PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was propose and test a predictive model that could explain and predict factors influencing the sexual satisfaction of women with diabetes mellitus. METHOD: The conceptual frame for this study was formed as a hypothesized model based on Roy's adaptation model. Participants for this study were 240 out-patient women from P university hospital in Y city. The data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 19.0 program. RESULTS: The paths that had direct effects on sexual satisfaction, and were statistically significant were showing intimacy with spouse, and sexual function. The explanatory power of these variables for sexual satisfaction was 64%. CONCLUSION: The results of the study suggest that it is necessary for enhancement of sexual satisfaction for women with diabetes to increase intimacy with husband, and that sexual function, frequency of exercise, adequate glycemic control be maintained, and depression decreased.

PURPOSE: This study was done to identify effects of a 12 weeks Tai Chi exercise and education intervention program on HbA1C, sexual function and IL-12 (Interleukin 12), IL-4 (Interleukin 4), TNF-alpha (Tumor Necrosis Factor) for women with type 2 diabetes. METHODS: The study had a nonequivalent control group pretest posttest design. The participants were 64 women with diabetes recruited from an outpatient clinic of a university hospital. The Tai Chi exercise and education intervention program was provided twice a week for 12 weeks for the 32 women in the experimental group. The 32 women in the control group were maintained on basic outpatient treatment. Outcome variables were HbA1C, sexual dysfunction scores, IL-4, IL-12 and TNF-alpha. RESULTS: The experimental group showed significantly improved HbA1C (F=3.10, p=.004), and sexual function (F=3.78, p=.001) compared to the control group. Also for the experimental group TNF-alpha (F=-2.69, p=.004) significantly increased compared to the control group. CONCLUSION: Results indicate that a Tai Chi exercise and education intervention program can be utilized effectively for women with type 2 diabetes.

OBJECTIVE: Outbreaks of transmissible respiratory infection are suspected to have significant effects on the health of pediatric and geriatric patients. The objective was to assess the impact of the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) outbreak on the use of emergency resources. METHODS: An ecologic analysis of emergency department (ED) records between September and December 2015, was performed. Data was obtained from the National Emergency Department Information System database for Korea. All demographic and diagnostic data from patients presenting with febrile symptoms as a main complaint were collected. The data were compared to the equivalent period in the three years preceding the MERS outbreak in Korea. RESULTS: Following the MERS outbreak, there was an increase in overall ED visits by febrile patients and the proportion of visits by febrile patients, relative to total ED attendances. This effect was more prominent in the children under five years. The duration of the chief complaint before ED arrival and the length of ED stay were significantly increased among younger pediatric patients. Decreased body temperature on arrival was observed in younger pediatric patients. CONCLUSION: MERS outbreak appears to have had a significant effects on ED use by febrile patients. The use of emergency care services by pediatric patients makes them more vulnerable to an outbreak of a transmissable disease. An effective strategy to control emergency center visits by non-urgent febrile patients and provide proper medical services is urgently needed.
