1.Factors Influencing Differences in Turnover Intention according to Work Periods for Newly Graduated Nurses

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to describe differences in turnover intention according to work period for new nurses and to explore factors influencing differences in turnover intention.METHODS: A longitudinal survey design was used. A structured questionnaire regarding CC (Clinical competence), MNC (Missed Nursing Care), WE (Work Engagement) and turnover intention was administered twice(at 2 months and 5 months of employment) to 98 new nurses working at a tertiary hospital.RESULTS: The regression model with each of the differences for MNC, WE, and subjective satisfaction with department against differences of turnover intention was statistically significant (F=11.98, p < .001). This model explained 26% of differences in turnover intention (Adj. R²=.26). Especially, differences in WE (β=-.43, p < .001), and differences in MNC (β=.18 p=.044) were identified as factors influencing differences in turnover intention.CONCLUSION: The turnover intention of new nurses decreased between the first 2 months and 5 months and this difference was influenced by WE and MNC. Therefore, it is necessary to provide social and institutional supports such as effective adaptation programs with sufficient periods of time for newly graduated nurses.

2.Nursing Students’ Orientation toward Patient-Centered Care: Testing the Effects of Empathy and Psychological Capital Using a Mediation Model

Purpose:
This study aims to determine nursing students’ orientation toward patient-centered care (PCC) and identify its influencing factors: their personality traits, empathy, and psychological capital (PsyCap). A mediating model was used to test the role of PsyCap in the association between empathy and PCC.
Methods:
This cross-sectional study included 300 nursing students from seven universities in South Korea. Their orientation toward PCC was measured using the Patient-Practitioner Orientation Scale (PPOS). Moreover, we analyzed the data using independent t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson's r, and SPSS PROCESS macro.
Results:
The overall mean score on the PPOS was 3.82±0.43, with the Caring and Sharing subscales accounting for 3.95±0.68 and 3.69±0.50, respectively. Nursing students’ satisfaction with their majors, practicums, and motivation for choosing this profession was significantly related to Caring-not Sharing. Nevertheless, PsyCap positively influenced both Caring (β=.24, p<.001) and Sharing (β=.18, p=.002). While empathy failed to significantly impact both Caring (β=.12, p=.087) and Sharing (β=.01, p=.931). PsyCap mediated the association of empathy with Caring (β=.20, p=.004); however, the same was not true for Sharing (β=.07, p=.366).
Conclusion
The findings indicate that the orientation of Korean nursing students toward PCC is not high. Therefore, to improve the PPOS Caring subscale, nurse educators should formulate better strategies to enhance nursing students’ satisfaction with their major and practicums, empathy, and PsyCap. The importance of sharing health-related information with patients and family caregivers should be emphasized in the nursing curriculum.
3.Trajectories of Wok Adjustment and Influencing Factors Among Newly Registered Nurses

Purpose:
This study explored the work adjustment trajectory and its predictors and characteristics among newly registered nurses.
Methods:
A total of 245 newly registered nurses working in a university hospital provided general baseline characteristics and completed a work adjustment questionnaire along with self-report measures of clinical competency, psychological capital, preceptor exchange, social support, and role conflict when they started working independently (baseline) and at 7 and 12 months after employment. Data were collected from July 2020 to August 2022. The collected data were subjected to a group-based trajectory model, χ2 test, F test, one-way ANOVA, and multiple logistic regression using SAS 9.4, and SPSS 25.0.
Results:
Group-based trajectory modeling classified three newly registered nurse groups: nurses with a high work adjustment level in all subscales from the beginning of employment (early adjustment group, 16.1%), nurses with a moderate level of adjustment from beginning to end (standard adjustment group, 60.6%), and nurses with a low level of work adjustment from early to mid-term, rising later (delayed adjustment group, 23.3%). Higher hope, optimism, and emotional support predicted early and standard adjustments.
Conclusions
Based on the trajectory characteristics, newly registered nurses need to improve their work adjustment. The early and standard adjustment groups should continuously monitor their levels of work adjustment while monitoring their hopes, optimism, and emotional support. In particular, the delayed adjustment group required customized educational programs and strengthened peer support.
