2.Treatment of Neovaseular Glaucoma Using Modified Schocket Implant.
Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1993;34(12):1293-1299
Seven eyes of 7 patients had undergone modified Schocketimplant surgery for neovascular glaucoma. The mean preoperative intraocular pressure(IOP) was 49.1 +/- 10.1 mmHg(range 38 to 70 mmHg). With a follow up of 6 to 18 monnths, the mean postoperative IOP was 20.3+/-5.1 mmHg(range 16 to 30 mmHg). The author's personal method to make two oblique valve incisions on the obliterated distal end of the draining silicone tube, prevented early postoperative complications(flat anterior chamber and hypo-tony). The one oblique incision on silicone tube turned into a open valve at a pressure between 17.3 and 21.6 mmHg(average 19.3 mmHg) and two oblique incisions opened at a oblique incisions seemed to be more available for pressure sensitive valve. The complications included minimal hyphema(4 eyes) and progression of cataract(1 eye). Modified Schocket implant are an effective and simple technique in the management of neovascular glaucoma.

4.Influence of Emotional Intelligence, Job Stress, and Social Support on Resilience among Hospital Nurses
Kyoung Hwa KIM ; Kyoung-Mi KIM
Korean Journal of Occupational Health Nursing 2022;31(3):137-145
Purpose:
The aim of this study was to identify the influence of emotional intelligence, job stress, and social support on resilience of hospital nurses. The study will provide the basic material necessary to improve nursing interventions for the development of nurses' resilience.
Methods:
The sample of this study comprised 193 nurses working at general hospitals in B City. Data were analyzed through the SPSS 25.0 program using ANOVA, t-test, Scheffé́ ́ test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression.
Results:
The factors with the greatest influence on the level of nurses' resilience were emotional intelligence (β=.54, p<.001), social support (β=.23, p<.001), and job stress (β=-.11, p=.39). These factors had an explanatory power of 46.7% for resilience.
Conclusion
To improve nurses’ resilience, the application and development of intervention programs to increase their emotional intelligence is necessary. Moreover, organizational management and policy are needed to reduce nurses' job stress.

Yonsei Medical Journal 2016;57(3):674-680
PURPOSE: This study determined which obesity measurement correlates the best with diabetes and prediabetes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This cross-sectional study enrolled 1603 subjects (611 men, 992 women; age 30-64 years) at the Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases Etiology Research Center. Body mass index, waist circumference, waist-height ratio, waist-hip ratio, waist-thigh ratio, and visceral fat were used as measures of obesity. Visceral fat was acquired using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). The prevalences of diabetes and prediabetes were defined using the criteria in the American Diabetes Association 2015 guidelines. RESULTS: After adjusting for age and other potential confounding factors, participants with a visceral fat mass in the upper 10th percentile had a higher odds ratio (OR) for diabetes and prediabetes than the upper 10th percentile of other adiposity indices [men, OR=15.9, 95% confidence interval (CI)=6.4-39.2; women, OR=6.9, 95% CI=3.5-13.7]. Visceral fat mass also had the highest area under the curve with diabetes and prediabetes in both men (0.69, 95% CI=0.64-0.73) and women (0.70, 95% CI=0.67-0.74) compared to other anthropometric measurements of obesity. CONCLUSION: Visceral fat mass measured using DXA is an indicator of diabetes or prediabetes, due to its ability to differentiate between abdominal visceral and subcutaneous fat.

Korean Journal of Pathology 1992;26(4):394-398
The rhabdomyosarcoma of the prostate is very rarely encountered in the western literature, and only a few reports have been published in Korea. The authours recently experienced two cases of rhabdomyosarcomas of the prostate in 35-year-old and 51-year-old males who had suffered from gross hematuria and difficulty of urination. Microscopic studies showed embryonal type of rhabdomyosarcoma in two cases. The clinical and pathological features of the distinctive prostatic rhabdomyosarcoma are described, and a brief review of the literature is made.

7.Effects of the Empowering Leadership by Nurse Managers on Organizational Citizenship Behavior of Nurses: Mediating Effects of Followership
Kyoung Hwa KIM ; Eun Kyung KIM
Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing Administration 2019;25(2):115-124
PURPOSE: The objective of this study was to verify a mediating effect of followership in the relationship of organizational citizenship behavior and nurse managers' empowering leadership as perceived by nurses. METHODS: The study was a descriptive research involving 222 nurses working on nursing units in a university hospital. Data were analyzed using independent t-test, one way ANOVA, Mann-Whitney U, Scheffé test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and simple and multiple regression techniques with the SPSS 23.0 program. Mediation analysis was performed according to the Baron and Kenny method and Sobel test. RESULTS: Nurse managers' empowering leadership and followership showed a positive correlation (r=.22, p=.001), and a significantly positive correlation with organizational citizenship behavior (r=.32, p<.001). Also, followership and organizational citizenship behavior showed a positive correlation (r=.52, p<.001). The results of the study verified that nurses' followership had a mediating effect on organizational citizenship behavior in nurse unit managers' empowering leadership, a positive effect on organizational citizenship behavior and ultimately an increase in organizational achievement. CONCLUSION: Nurse managers need to be aware of the importance of empowering leadership, and endeavor to enhance it further. As for the organizational level, support to strengthen empowering leadership is required.

8.Serum Indeces Protein Fibrils Expression in Candida albicans.

Journal of the Korean Society for Microbiology 1999;34(3):277-283
The fibrillar coat of Candida albicans is of interest as its significance in antigenicity, antiphagocytosis, and adherence to host tissues. The partial biochemical properties and ultrastructure of fibrillar coat induced by rabbit sera were examined. The induced fibrillar layer was destroyed by treatments of lyticase, proteinase K and dithiothreitol. The total protein concentration of fibrillar cell wall lysate was higher than that of non-fibrillar cell wall lysate, but the total sugar concentration was similar. On SDS-PAGE analysis, the protein profiles between in fibrillar cells and in non-fibrillar cells were shown to be different. In fibrillar cells, the major bands of cell wall lysate were 83, 66, 54, 47, 33, and 26 kDa in dithiothreitol-treated lysate. The proteins of 26 and 19 kDa were predominant in lyticase-treated lysate. Although the fibrillar thickness and protein amount of cell wall lysate were increased in according to the incubation time, the protein profiles did not changed. These results suggest that the proteins of 83, 66, 54, 47, 33, 26, and 19 kDa may be major constituents of fibrillar coat in C. albicans.
