1.A Study on the Eating Habit and Eating Out Behavior of the University Students in the Gyeonggi Area.

This study investigated difference of general eating habit and eating-out behavior between men and women of university students in Gyonggi area. The survey was conducted from 1 March to 1 April 2010, in Gyeonggi area. Self-administered questionnaires were collected from 250 students in Gyeonggi area. The research results show, first of all, that they eat twice a day, and they usually do not eat breakfast. The main reason why they do not eat breakfast is that they do not have enough time to eat. Between men and women, there is significant difference in eating amount and eating speed at 0.001 levels. Men's problems of eating behavior are irregular meal time and speed of eating time, and in case of women, they do not have a meal regularly and overeat at one time. Second, they usually eat out for a meal and gather with friends once to three times a week. Also, the lunch set-menu promotion is the most preferred one. Third, when men choose a restaurant, they consider in order of taste, convenience, amount, and service; women consider in order of atmosphere, taste, convenience, and service. Taste is the most important for men; atmosphere is the most important consideration for women. Taste (at 0.01 levels), sanitation (at 0.05 levels), and atmosphere (at 0.001 levels) are significantly different between men and women in choosing restaurant.

2.Factors in early hospital arrival following suspected acute stroke symptoms

Objective:
We investigated the factors that affect the time from the onset of acute stroke symptoms to arrival at the emergency department (ED).
Methods:
Between July 2019 and February 2020, patients with acute stroke symptoms who visited a public hospital were evaluated by retrospective analysis using a prospective survey. The data for this study was gathered from baseline interviews with patients enrolled in stroke surveys. The primary outcome was time to arrival at the ED, evaluated as a binary variable with a value of 4.5 hours.
Results:
Overall, 205 patients were included in the final analysis. Among them, 47% (n=96) of patients with acute stroke symptoms arrived at the ED later than 4.5 hours from the time of onset of acute stroke symptoms. After multivariable logistic regression analyses, it was found that patients with higher National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) scores, patients who did not live with their family members, and patients who were found by a passerby were associated with early ED arrival post onset of acute stroke symptoms. Among patients diagnosed with acute stroke, those with higher NIHSS scores or underlying malignant diseases were found to present earlier at the ED.
Conclusion
Approximately half of the patients (47%) with acute stroke symptoms presented to the ED within 4.5 hours. Higher NIHSS scores and the presence of underlying malignancy were identified as the key factors that were associated with an early presentation at the ED from the time of onset of acute stroke.

Tinnitus-the perception of sound in the absence of an actual external sound-represents a symptom of an underlying condition rather than a single disease. Several theories have been proposed to explain the mechanisms underlying tinnitus. Tinnitus generators are theoretically located in the auditory pathway, and such generators and various mechanisms occurring in the peripheral auditory system have been explained in terms of spontaneous otoacoustic emissions, edge theory, and discordant theory. Those present in the central auditory system have been explained in terms of the dorsal cochlear nucleus, the auditory plasticity theory, the crosstalk theory, the somatosensory system, and the limbic and autonomic nervous systems. Treatments for tinnitus include pharmacotherapy, cognitive and behavioral therapy, sound therapy, music therapy, tinnitus retraining therapy, massage and stretching, and electrical suppression. This paper reviews the characteristics, causes, mechanisms, and treatments of tinnitus.

4.Identification of Fusarium Basal Rot Pathogens of Onion and Evaluation of Fungicides against the Pathogens

Onion (Allium cepa L.) is an economically important vegetable crop worldwide. However, various fungal diseases, including Fusarium basal rot (FBR), neck rot, and white rot, reduce onion production or bulb storage life. FBR caused by Fusarium species is among the most destructive onion diseases. In this study, we identified Fusarium species associated with FBR in Jeolla and Gyeongsang Provinces in South Korea and evaluated fungicides against the pathogens. Our morphological and molecular analyses showed that FBR in onions is associated with Fusarium commune,Fusarium oxysporum , and Fusarium proliferatum. We selected seven fungicides (fludioxonil, hexaconazole, mandestrobin, penthiopyrad, prochlorazmanganese, pydiflumetofen, and tebuconazole) and evaluated their inhibitory effects on mycelial growth of the pathogens at three different concentrations (0.01, 0.1, and 1 mg/mL). We found that prochloraz-manganese was highly effective, inhibiting 100% of the mycelial growth of the pathogens at all concentrations, followed by tebuconazole. Down syndrome is the most common autosomal syndrome in man. The incidence of trisomy 21 due to translocation is about 3.5-5%. Translocations are usually centric fusions between a 21 and a D group (54.2%) or a G group (40.9%) chromosome. Since the short arm of 21 carries no phenotypically active genes, even if the short arm of 21 is lost, usually there is no imbalance with clinical significance. Rare translocations in Down syndrome may also occur between a 21 and other chromosomes (4.9%). We experienced a case of unusual (1q;21q) translocation Down syndrome inherited from a t (1q;21q) balanced carrier mother. The segmental trisomy was confirmed by FISH analysis. This is the first case of a familial Down syndrome with t (1q;21q) in Korea.

7.Clinical analysis of triple marker screening test for fetal Down syndrome in midtrimester of pregnancy-Low sensitivity of triple marker screening test.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the reliability of triple marker screening test in midtrimester pregnancy for fetal Down syndrome. METHODS: From October 1, 1996 to May 31, 1998 at Nowon Eulji Hospital, 3700 Pregnant women underwent serum tiple marker screening for Down syndrome during 15-20weeks of gestational age. The results of serum triple marker screenig tests for Down syndrome and the outcomes of pregnancies were retrospectively assesed. RESULTS: Sixty seven of 3700 cases(1.81%) were positive in screening test, and 3633(98.18%) cases were negative. Among 67 cases of positive screening test, 1 case(1.49%) was diagnosed as Down syndrome. Among 3633 cases of negative screening test, 4 cases(0.1%) were diagnosed as chromosomal abnormalies postnatally. Two of these 4 cases of chromosomal abnormalies were Down syndrome. CONCLUSION: With this results, sensitivity of triple marker screeing test for Down syndrome is very low as 33.3%. In order to increase the sensitivity, some compensatory adjustment is required in triple marker screening test.

8.Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography Findings of Butterfly Shaped Pigment Dystrophy.

PURPOSE: The butterfly-shaped pigment dystrophy is an extremely rare autosomal dominant retinal disorder. The authors present a case of butterfly-shaped pigment dsytrophy not reported previously in Korea. CASE SUMMARY: A 45-year-old man had bilateral blurred vision for 2 years. His visual acuity was 0.2 in the right eye, and 0.3 in the left and was uncorrected. Funduscopically, yellow pigment deposits were present at the level of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) in the central macula of both eyes. Fluorescein angiography (FA) revealed a central, dark, butterfly-shaped lesion surrounded by a region of hyperfluorescence, Spectral domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) showed thick elevation of the RPE with hyperreflectivity and disruption of the inner and outer segment (IS/OS) interface of the photoreceptors. The patient had normal color vision, visual field and electroretinograms and reduced electrooculograms. CONCLUSIONS: In general, butterfly-shaped pigment dystrophy is known to have good visual prognosis. However, in some cases the disease can be a chronic progressive disorder with secondary involvement of the photoreceptors, as exemplified this patient. The authors anticipate more detail regarding the natural course of this disease will be obtained through spectral domain OCT.

Subacute combined degeneration is a disease of spinal cord involving the posterior and lateral columns due to vitamin B12 deficiency. We experienced a 56-year-old man suffering subacute combined degeneration, characterised by dysesthesia and disturbance of deep sensation such as position sense, proprioception and vibration sense in the lower extremities, and ataxic gait. We reported one patient with subacute combined degeneration of the cord in association with pernicious anemia resulting from inactivation of intrinsic factor by it's antibodies.
