Present trial was carried out to evaluate the anthelmintic efficacy of oxantel/pyrantel tablets against intestinal nematode infections, and to determine the efficacy of oxantel tablels against Trichuris infection. A total of 34 subjects with the mixed infections were treated with oxantel/pyrantel tablets (100 mg/tablet each) in a single dose of 15 mg/kg body weight, and another group of 22 Trichuris infected cases received oxantel pamoate tablets (125 mg/tablet) in a single dose of 15 mg/kg. All stool examinations were done before the treatment and 3 weeks after the treatment. The cellophane thick smear (Kato's technique) and Stoll's dilution egg counting method were employed. The results of the trial were summarized as follows: The cure rates (egg negative conversion rates) and egg reduction rates for oxantel/pyrantel tablets were 85.3 percent and 97 percent in trichuriasis, 100 percent each in ascariasis and ancylostomiasis. The oxantel tablet treated group demonstrated a cure rate of 90.9 percent and an egg reduction rate of 96.3 percent in the treatment of Trichuris. There were no detectable objective and subjective side effects in this trial. Both oxantel/pyrantel and oxantel pamoate tablets were readily accepted and well tolerated.

2.Cryolysis of Adhesion of Anterior Hyaloid Membrane to Corneal Endothelium After Uncomplicated Cataract Extraction.
Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1975;16(4):378-380
A case of adhesion of the anterior hyaloid membrane to the corneal endothelium after uncomplicated intracapsular cataract extraction is presented. Cryolysis appears to offer a favorable solution to this problem.

3.Effect of azithromycin on gingival overgrowth of organic transplanted patients.
The Journal of the Korean Academy of Periodontology 1998;28(4):829-836
Management of gingival overgrowth due to medication is bothersome because plaque control measurement alone did not prevent gingival overgrowth. The best treatment of drug induced gingival overgrowth is discontinuing use of the associated drugs. In this report we attempt to evaluate the short term effects of azithromycin which shown to be of some benefit on gingival overgrowth due to medication. We studied 16 organic transplanted patients who had the gingival overgrowth. All patients received oral azithromycin once daily for 5 days. We measured papillary overgrowth index(POI) every interdental areas before treatment and after 2 and 4 week. Severity and frequence of the papillary overgrowth is tend to reduce progressively in 2 to 4 weeks after treatment in all patients. But no case is completely resolved within 4 weeks. We could find the partial resolution of gingival overgrowth with a 5 day treatment of azithromycin. It is not known whether the response to azithromycin was mediated through its antibacterial effect or another mechanism. We suggest that the treatment of azithromycin could be added to periodontal management of patients with gingival overgrowth due to medication.

Journal of the Korean Neurological Association 1996;14(1):282-288
BACKGROUND & SIGNIFICANCE: Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy(PML), a rare neurologic disease caused by papovavirus, has been sporadically reported with defective cell-mediated immunity. We report one case of pathologically proven PML complicating chronic myelocytic leukemia(CML). CASE: The patient was a 42-year-old women, who had been diagnosed as CML at age 32 and received autologous bone marrow transplantation 16 months before. She admitted because of progressive memory disturbance and anomic aphasia over several months. Neuropsychological test suggested a left temporal lobe lesion. On T2-weighted brain MR image, there was a diffuse high signal intensity lesion in the left temporal lobe with some mottled enhancement and also in the left corona radiata and deep frontal area. Brain biopsy was done and the JC strain of papovairus was detected by in-situ hybridization technique. Cytarabine, alphainterferon, and acyclovir were tried. About 2 weeks after the medications, significant clinical improvement was noticed. A follow-up MRI 2 month and 6 months later revealed a significant reduction in the extent of the lesion. CONCLUSION: This is the firsts reported case of pathologically-proven PML in Korea. Unlike the usual PML described in the literature, our patient have showed clinical and radiological improvement in the course of illness.

Journal of the Korean Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine 2000;24(4):710-717
OBJECTIVE: To compare current perception threshold with nerve conduction study, we measured current perception threshold (CPT) in healthy control and patients with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). METHOD: Twenty control subjects and twenty patients with CTS were included. Latency and amplitude of median and ulnar motor and sensory nerves were measured. The sensory current perception threshold was measured at the distal interphalangeal joint of third and fifth fingers and the palm with electrical current of 5 Hz, 250 Hz, and 2,000 Hz in frequency. We compared the results of the nerve conduction study with the data of the CPT. RESULTS: We found that measuring of the sensory threshold might detect carpal tunnel syndrome, especially with 2,000 Hz and 250 Hz stimulation and that CPT data correlated to sensory latency and amplitude of the median nerve. CONCLUSION: The sensory threshold test might be useful for diagnosis and follow up test in carpal tunnel syndrome.

Ovarian cellular fibroma is an uncommon benign tumor and accounts for approximately 4% of all ovarian neoplasms. It mimics fibrosarcoma histologically because of its rich cellularity and high number of mitoses. Ovarian cellular fibroma with endometriosis was a rare case. We experienced a case of ovarian cellular fibroma in a 25-year-old woman underwent exploratory laparotomy for huge ovarian enlargement and report the case with brief review of literature.
