Pure, nongestational ovarian choriocarcinomas is extremely rare. Most ovarian choriocarcinoma are combined with other malignant germ cell tumors or can arise as a metastaais from a primnry gestational choriocarcinoma. We experienced a case of primary ovarian choriocarcinoma that probably was associated with a past history of the mixture of germ cell tumor and present it with a review of literature.

We report a patient with an unusual manifestation of Trichophyton violaceum infection, who lives in Seoul. An 8-year-old male presented an erythematous nodule on the lower eyelid of the left eye which had persisted for 10 weeks. On physical examination, there was no abnormality except a skin lesion on the eyelid. The skin biopsy of the nodule showed epidermal hyperplasia and granulomatous change in the upper dermis. The biopsy specimen yielded Trichophyton uiolaceum on culture. The skin lesion disappeared 2 months after administration of ketoconazole.

PURPOSE: Tumor invasion and metastasis are multistep phenomina, involving proteolytic degradation of extracellular matrix (ECM) and alteration of cell adhesion. It is another oncologic therapeutic strategy to block tumor invasion and metastasis through analyzing the molecules which are involved in these processes. We examined the expressions of some of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in colorectal cancer and analyze the correlation with clinical factors and survival. METHODS: Fifty-five patients with colorectal cancer who underwent surgical resection were included. The expressions of the MMP-2, -7, -9, and -12 in tumor tissue and normal mucosa using RT-PCR technique was carried out. We evaluated and analyzed the correlation among these molecules, clinical characteristics, and survival. RESULTS: Expressions of MMP-7, -9, and -12 were significantly higher in tumor tissue than in normal mucosa (P=0.00). The expressions of MMP-2 between cancer and normal mucosa had no significant difference but it had a significant difference according to the lymph node (LN) invasion (P=0.03) in tumor tissues. Three-year overall survival was worse in patient with high expression of MMP-2 compared to low expression. CONCLUSION: The expressions of MMP-7, -9, -12 in tumor tissue were higher than in normal mucosa and MMP-2 expression of tumor tissues had a significant difference according to LN invasion. MMP-2 overexpression seems to be a prognostic factor for 3-yr overall survival. But, large scale study with long term survival analysis will be needed for the prognostic significance of MMPs.

To investigate predictable ultrasonographic findings of early abortion. To investigate objective rules for the screening of abortion Ultrasonographic examination of 111 early pregnancies between the sixth and ninth week in women who had regular 28 day menstrual cycles was performed. Ultrasonographic measurements of the gestational sac. Crown rump length and fetal heart rate were performed using a linear array real time transducer with doppler ultrasonogram. All measurements of 17 early abortions were compared to those of 94 normal pregnancies. Most of early aborted pregnanices were classified correctly by disciminant analysis with G-SAC and CRL (GSAC=0.5 CRL+15. Sensitivity 76.5%, specificity 96.8%). With the addition of FHR, 94.1 of early abortions could be predicted. In conclusion, ultrasonographic findings of early intrauterine growth retardation. Small gestational sac and bradycardia can be predictable signs suggestive of poor prognosis of early pregnancies.

Teramethylammonium(TMA) in one of the synthetic compounds of nicotine that act at ganglionic site. The major action of TMA consists of initial stimulation followed by a more persistent depression of all autonomic ganglia by binding to a cholinergic receptor. It is well believed that the level of membrane potential in arterial smooth muscle is an important regulator of tension development. Depolarization and hyperpolarization by only few millivolts results in significant changes in tension. In general, the agents of vascular smooth muscle induce vascular relaxaion. The present study was undertaken to elucidate the effect of TMA on vascular contractility in the isolated rabbit thoracic aorta with or without endothelial cell, and mechanisms involved in the change of vascular contractility by TMA. The results obtained are summarized as follows ; 1) In the presence of endothelial cell, TMA induced a relaxtion of the aorta precontracted with norepinephrine but induced a contraction in the aorta without endothelial cells, indicating that in the rabbit aorta, relaxations produced by TMA were the endothelium-dependent. 2) The addition of inhibitor such as methylene blue, hemoglobin, hydroquinone and p-bromophenacyl bromide during the TMA-induced relaxation reversed the contractile tension to a level similar to or higher than that before the addition of TMA in rabbit thoracic aorta. This relaxation effect of TMA suggest that the TMA-inducdd relaxation in rabbit aorta is due to the release of endotheline derived relaxing factor(EDRF). 3) Relaxation induced by TMA was antagonized by atropine and thus the TMA does seem to act on the muscarinic receptors. 4) TMA reduced the norepinephrine-induced Ca++ influx into rabbit smooth muscle membrane. From the above results, it may be concluded that TMA-induced vacular relaxation in rabbit aorta is due to the release of EDRF. Mechanism involved in the relaxation induced by TMA may be the stimulation of soluble guanylate cyclase and increased tissue cGMP concentrations.

Journal of the Korean Pediatric Society 1994;37(12):1752-1756
The hyperlipoproteinemias are the disturbance of lipid transport resulted from accelerated synthesis or retarded degradation of lipoproteins that transport cholesterol and trigycerides through plasma. These diseases are classified as type I, type IIa, type IIb, type III, type IV, type V, and hyper- -lipoproteinemia by lipoprotein phenotype. Type V hyperlipoproteinemia is uncommon in childhood and characterized by elevation of triglyceride levels due to increases in both VLDL and chylomicrons and lipoprotein electrophoresis shows increased pre- , , and chylomicron bands. We experienced a case of hyperlipoproteinemia type V in a 12 year old male who presented no specific signs and symptoms. So, we report a case of hyperlipoproteinemia type V with brief review of the literatures.
