OBJECTIVES: This study was conducted to investigate the systematic error, such as seasonal change or inadequate food items, in a food frequency questionnaire administered to workers in a Nuclear Power Plant, Korea. METHODS: We performed three repeat-tests with 28 subjects on May 13, July 8 and Dec 16, 1992. Our food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) comprised 84 foods organized into 7 food-groups, and was composed of the items of usual intake frequency (8 categories) and the amount per intake (3 or 4 categories) over the previous year. We compared the means of intake frequency and the frequency of the portion-size according to each season using Repeated Measures ANOVA and Pearson's chisquare test with Fisher's exact test. RESULTS: We found the significant seasonal changes of several food items in intake frequency measurement. These items were typical seasonal foods such as mandarin orange, plum and green vegetables, while the single questions consisted of inadequate food items such as thick beef or similar soup and various kimchi products. Significant seasonal changes in portion-size were found in only two items: cooked rice-brown and fresh.frozen fishes. CONCLUSIONS: The systematic errors observed could caused loss of validity in the FFQ. Consideration should be given for seasonal variation in FFQ survey and methodological concerns are needed to improve the quality for measuring usual diet pattern.

PURPOSE: This study is to clarify the clinical characteristics of hyperthermia and to evaluate the correlation between hyperthermia and neurologic outcome after successful cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). METHODS: This retrospective study was performed from Aug. 1995 to Dec. 2001 at the Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital. We reviewed the medical records of 41 adult patients who survived for longer than 72 h after successful CPR. The patients were divided into two groups: favorable neurologic outcome group (n=17) and unfavorable neurologic outcome group (n=24). The hyperthermic group was composed of patients whose highest body temperature had been more than 38 degrees C. In the hyperthermic group, we analyzed the correlation between evidence of infection and neurologic outcome. We considered evidence of infection to be a positive result for a blood, sputum, or urine culture, and pneumonic infiltration on chest X-ray. RESULTS: The average of the highest body temperature within 72 h after successful CPR was 38.4+/-0.9 degrees C for the unfavorable neurologic outcome group, which was significantly higher than the value of 37.7+/-0.5 degrees C for the favorable neurologic outcome group (p =0.002). No significant correlation existed between neurologic outcome and age, place of cardiac arrest, duration of arrest, causes of cardiac arrest, and initial blood pressure after uccessful resuscitation. In hyperthermic group (n=18), eight patients showed the evidence of i nfection, but no significant correlation existed between the evidence of infection and neurologic outcome (p =0.850). CONCLUSION: Hyperthermia is a potential factor for an unfavorable neurologic recovery after successful CPR.

PURPOSE: This study aimed at identifying if there is a relevance of content of the Korean Nursing Licensing Examination (KNLE) revised in 2014 to nursing job. It will be able to provide the validity of revised content of the KNLE. METHODS: From October 13 to November 13, 2015, print version of 8 duties with 49-tasks, 155-job item questionnaires were distributed to 1,305 hospital nurses and 202 nursing faculties in Korea. Results were treated by descriptive statistics and comparison analysis. There were responses from 946 nurses or professors (72.5%). RESULTS: The relevance of test content of KNLE to nursing job was shown to be valid with over 3 points out of 4 point Likert scale in all items: from 3.23 at lowest to 3.64 at top. CONCLUSION: Above results showed that the revised version of KNLE in 2014 was valid to test the nursing students' knowledge for job performance.

Herpes zoster may be associated with a number of neurological complication. Herper zoster ophthalmicus and delayed contralateral hemiparesis is a well-described entity. We report a patient who had acute cerebral infarction 8 weeks after herpes zoster ophthalrnicus. Brain CT disclosed large cerebral infarction in the right middle cerebral artery territory. Decompressivecraniectomy was perforrned because of the impending uncal herniation on the 4th admission day. Pathological finding of resected brain parenchyrna and meninges showed the early cerebral infarction without evidence of vasculitis or er;cephalitis. Postoperatively the patient was improved.

The generally accepted taste pathway in an animal projects ipsilaterally from the solitary nucleus. However, the path-way of gustatory fibers in the human brainstem has not been sufficiently clarified. A 57-year-old hypertensive man was admitted with sudden dizziness and hemiageusia. A neurological examination revealed also a diminution of taste on the left half of his tongue. A MRI showed a high signal intensity in the right lower pontine area. This case suggests that the unilateral lesion of the pons may lead to contralateral taste disturbances.

OBJECTIVES: Initial and late results after implantation of Freedom stents, a balloon expandable stainless steel coil stents were evaluated. METHODS: From Jun. 1996 to Nov. 1997, we implanted 123 Freedom stents in 122 lesions in 117 patients and performed follow-up coronary angiograms at 7.0 3.6 months after stents placement. Clinical courses after stenting and follow-up coronary angiographic findings were evaluated. Comparison of clinical, angiographic, and procedural factors according to the presence or absence of restenosis was performed. RESULTS: In 117 patients who underwent stents implantation, major complications were not observed. Follow-up coronary angiograms were performed in 47 stents in 41 patients (35+ACU-). Among 47 stents, angiographic significant restenosis (percent diameter stenosis +AD4- 50+ACU-) was observed in 13 (28+ACU-). Mean age in 41 patients was 59 9 years, with 27 male patients (66+ACU-). Indications for stents implantation were de novo lesions in 18 (38+ACU-), suboptimal results after PTCA in 18 (38+ACU-), bail-out lesions in 4 (9+ACU-) and restenotic lesions in 7 (15+ACU-). Lesion types by AHA/ACC classification were A in 1 (1+ACU-), B1 in 10 (21+ACU-), B2 in 17 (36+ACU-), and C in 19 (40+ACU-). Average lesion length was 13.7 9.0 mm, stent diameter 3.0 0.3 mm, and stent length 24.6 9.0 mm. There were no significant differences of the clinical, angiographic, and procedural characteristics according to the presence or absence of restenosis. CONCLUSION: Freedom coronary stents implantation is safely performed in various morphology of coronary lesions and no significant predictive factors on restenosis in follow-up coronary angiogram were observed.

Histiocytic medullary reticulosis was first described as a clinical and pathological entity by Scott and Robb-Smith in 1939. The clinical pictures include progressive pancytopenia, fever, wasting, lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly, jaundice and purpura. The outstanding morphological features of the disease is proliferation of histiocytes throughout the reticuloendothelial system with frequent leucoerythrophagocytosis. In spite of uniform clinical and fistologcal pictures verified by additional case reports, the diagnosis has usually not been made until postmortem examination. Most patients die within six months because the disease runs a rapidly fatal course. Since the orginal report, approximately 90 cases have been reported in the literatures. In this ciuntry, Ko and others reported several cases of HMR in adults, and there has been only one report in childhood. Recently, we had the opportunity to observe a 9 year old girl at this hospital whose clinical course and antemortem pathological features were consistent with criteria for the disease. In spite of the remission after treatment with various anticancer drugs, patient expired six months after diagnosis.
