Synovial chondromatosis is a rare entity characterized by metaplastic cartilage formation within the synovial connective tissue and the shedding of loose bodies into the joint. Of the four cases of synovial chondromatosis, experienced by authors, three involved the knee joint and one the proxiaml phalanx of the left index finger. A huge chondroma was found in the knee joint of 2 years old boy and the other one in the proximal phalanx of the left index of 11 years old girl. Histological findings disclosed the metaplastic transformation of synovium into cartilage in all cases.

Dermabrasion involves the removal of the epidermis and the upper dermis by means of a motor-driven rotary abrasive instrument or a brush using ethyl chloride or dichlorotetrafluoroethane(Freon) as the evaporative refrigerant-anesthetic. Kurtin(1952) developed this refrigeration-abrasion method and named it skin planing. The technique of skin planing was introduced to Korea in early 1960s and it was extensively used for corrective surgery of scar induced by small pox until early 1970s. The indication for dermabrasion includes correction of scars, prophylaxis and correction of aging of the skin, removal of congenital nevoid anomalies, malignant and benign skin tumors, tattoos and others. The authors dermabased the cutaneous lesions of xeroderma pigmentosum, angiofibroma (adenoma sebaseum), nevus sebaceus of Jadassohn, epidermal verrucous nevus and linear porokeratosis, using Stryker' pneumatic powered dermabrader, with successful results. The technique of dermabrasion and the literature were briefly reviewed.

Ossification of the anterior longitudinal ligament of the spine was first reported by Dr. Forestier and Dr.Rotes in 1950. However, in no other countries but Japan there have been reports on the ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament of the spine which was first reported by Tsukimoto in 1960. About 45% of ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament of the spine have a combination of ossification of the anterior longitudinal ligament and yet it is considered to be a variety of the spinal geriatric conditions, favorable to the cervical spine. The condition develops similar symptoms of cervical spondylosis. Authors report two cases of ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament of cervical spine of Korean nationals at St. Marys hospital, Catholic Medical College.

A case of dysplasia eplphyseaalis hemlmelica (Fairbank, 1956) in a 8 years old boy, showlng typical clinical and roentgenographical appearance, is reported together wlth a brief review of literature in this paper. This condition is a rare developmental disorder of childhood in which there is a asymmetrical cartilaginous overgrowth of one or more than one epiphysis, or of a tarsal or carpal bone. Thls disorder is usually Iimited to elther the medial or lateral half of a single extremity. The disease is characterised radiographically by delay in the appearance of the epiphyseal nucleus, which is mottied and of irregular density. The most common deformities were genu valgum or varum and valgus or equinus deformity of the ankle. These deformities tended to increased wlth growth but the size of the lesion increased in proportion to the growth of the normal bone. Concomitant involvement of the knee and ankle is the rule, and in those cases the affected limb Is usually longer than Its mate. The lesion Is often microscopically indistingulshable from an osteochondroma.

We have experienced a 50-year-old male patient, who died of multiple metastatic nodular melanoma which had the primary lesions on the right hallux and forefoot with eventual involvement of skin and internal organs. An autopsy was performed for the evidence of metastatic features of the internal organs and their spreading routes, with concurrent histopathologic findings. The autopsy findings revealed diffuse metastases to the ipsilateral femoral and inguinal lymph nodes via ascending vascular channels and to the internal organs: 1. The heart had multiple metastatic lesions on the pericardium and right ventricular wall. And the mediastinal, periaortic and periesophageal lymph nodes were also involved. 2. The both lungs were moderately indurated and focally discolored, and showed metastatic lesions in the right lower lobe and hilar areas, Melanoma cells were diffusely invaded to the interstitia and alveoli. 3. The right 5th and 6th ribs showed the invsion of melanoma cells on their bone marrows, periostia, and Haversians canals. 4. The liver was enlarged and showed multiple various sized nodules on the surface with adesion to the parts of peritoneum, omentum and diaphragm. Melanoma cells were seen mostly on and around the sinusoidal spaces and parenchyma. 5. The stomach wall had an ulcerated metastatic lesion and the melanoma cells invaded deeply into the muscle layer. 6. The pancreas was normal in its size and shape but had multiple metastatic lesions on the head and body with melanoma celi infiltration. 7. The both kidneys were grar ular surfaced and showed two metastatic lesions on the right renal cortex and two on the left. Renal tubules and parenchyma were widely invaded by melanoma cells but the glomerular tufts were intact. 8. The adreral and thyroid glands showed four and two metastatic lesions respectively and diffuse invasion of melanoma cells into the parenchyma. 9. The brain was normal in gross appearance, but the cortex was edematous and showed settered melanoma cell infiltration.
