1.STRESS ANALYSIS AT SUPPORTING TISSUE OF ABUTMENT TEETH AND RESIDUAL RIDGE ACCORDING TO DENTURE DESIGN WITH REMAINING UNILATERAL POSTERIOR TEETH.

This study was performed to investigate the distribution and magnitude of stress at supporting tissue of abutment teeth and residual ridge tissue with remaining unilateral posterior teeth. Four types of removable partial dentures that included clasp retained removable partial denture, attachment retained removable partial denture, telescopic removable partial denture, and swing-lock partial denture were designed, and strain gauge was used for stress analysis. Each prosthesis was subjected to simulated vertical and oblique load. The following conclusions were drawn from this study. 1. The clasp retained removable partial denture generally distributed simulated vertical force more evenly to the supporting structure. 2. The stress at buccal side of 1st premolar was the lowest in swing-lock partial denture and that was highest in attchment retained removable partial denture. The stress at lingual side of 1st premolar was the lowest in telescopic partial denture. 3. In clasp retained removable partial denture, stress was lower at load site and ridge crest at midline, but it was higher at lst premolar area on vertical load. 4. In attachment removable partial denture, stresses at buccal side of 1st premolar, lingual side of 1st premolar on vertical load, and ridge crest at midline on oblique load were higher. 5. In telescopic removable partial denture, stress at lingual side of 1st premolar was the least in all removable partial dentures, but the stress at load site was higher. 6. In swing-lock removable partial denture, stress at buccal side of 1st premolar was the lowest, and stresses at load site and distal end of residual ridge crest were higher.

3.Methods of Treatment for Improving Joint Motion After Synovectomy in Tb. Knee

In the treatment of Tb.knee, the preservation of mobility is an important issue, there are many difficulties due to pain and swelling in the trial of early ROM exercise, and various problems such as the recurrence of Tb. lesions, delayed wound healing and draining sinus formation. We analysed 30 cases of Tb. knee treated with synovectomy during 10 years since March, 1979. In Group I (25 cases), early ROM exercise were started about 4 weeks after synovectomy. And in Group II (5 csses), arthroscopic adhesiolysis was performed after minimum 6 month immobilization and chemotherapy following synovectomy. We compared the two Groups and the results were as followings: 1. Male was 15 patients and female was 15 patients, the average age was 28.1 years. 2. The average follow-up period was 18.3 months. 3. In Group I, the ROM exercise was performed before 4 weeks in 9 cases and after 4 weeks in 16 cases postoperatively. The average final ROM was 68.9° 4. Draining sinus formation was in 4 cases in Group I. 5. In Group II, arthroscopic adhesiolysis was performed in 5 cases after synovectomy and chemotherapy for average 8.8 months ranging from 6 to 14 months. 6. The average final ROM at follow-up was 111° in Group II. 7. In a case with the severe involvement of bone and cartilage in Tb. lesion at the synovectomy, ROM was reduced gradually to 50° after arthroscopic adhesiolysis. We could gain ROM of 120° by TKR. 8. Draining sinus formation was not found in Group II.

4.A Case of Primary Ovarian Choriocarcinoma.

Pure, nongestational ovarian choriocarcinomas is extremely rare. Most ovarian choriocarcinoma are combined with other malignant germ cell tumors or can arise as a metastaais from a primnry gestational choriocarcinoma. We experienced a case of primary ovarian choriocarcinoma that probably was associated with a past history of the mixture of germ cell tumor and present it with a review of literature.

5.A Case Report of Periodic Alternating Nystagmus.

A 19-year-old man with periodic alternating nystagmus (PAN) is presented. He reported that he had had oscillopsia and head oscillations for as long as he could remember. Acquired diseases associated with PAN were ruled out with various laboratory aids. This case is believed to be the first reported case of PAN in Korea.

This study was performed to investigate the effects of impression method and design of the retainer on the stress of abutment tooth in distal extension RPD. Three different types of direct retainer such as Akers clasp. RPI clasp, and wrought wire clasp were designed . Stress on the abutment tooth was measured and analyzed with strain gauge method. Impressions were anatomic impression technique and functional impression technique. The following conclusions were drawn from this syudy. 1.The stress at the abutment tooth on all RPD was decreased in functional impression except RPI clasp retained RPD. 2.The stress at the abutment tooth on RPI clasp retained RPD was the most smallest in anatomic impression 3.While load is increase the stress at the abutment tooth was increased, but the change of stress at the buccal side of abutment tooth was not too much in functional impression.

10.A Case of Spinal Muscular Atrophy with Hypertrophy of Calf-Muscles.

Hypertrophy of the calves has been described in spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) syndrome. Pearn and Hudgson described a new spinal muscular atrophy syndrome characterized adolescent onset, gross hypertrophy of the calves, and a slowly progressive clinical course. We saw a 16-year-old female who had weakness of the thighs with atrophy and hypertrophy of calfmuscles. The patient was studied with EMG and muscle biopsy and thought to be as SMA with hypertrophied calf-muscles.
