A case of chondromyxoid fibroma, which was experienced at Seoul National University Hospital, is presented with a brief review of the literature, because of its relative rarity in incidence, its unusual location and its huze size in demension which seems to be largest in reported series in literatures.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1990;28(1):112-117
We report a family suffering from Marie Unnas hypotrichosis (8 members affected in 4 generations). At birth they had normal hairs, subsequently loss of hair on the scalp, eyebrow and eyelash. At about 3rd years, coarse twisted scalp hair regrow until puberty when progressive loss from vertex and scalp margin was noticed. On physical examination and lsboratory studies, there was no associated abnormality in the patients. The scanning electron microscopic examination of the affected hair showed cuticular peeling and twisting or angulation of hair shaft.

Korean Journal of Pathology 1992;26(4):405-410
Both primary choriocarcinoma and endodermal sinus tumor of the stomach are very rare entities. Combination of these two tumors is even rarer, and only a single such case has been reported in English literature. The case had gastric adenocarcinoma in addition to these tumors. We experienced a case of combined, pure choriocarcinoma and endodermal sinus tumor in the stomach of a 74 year-old man. He had no gonadal or any other primary tumor. Huge exophytic tumor was located in the lesser curvature of the body. Two components of the tumor was separated and clearly defined. Human chorionic gonadotropin(HCG) was demonstrated in serum and in tissue sections. Alpha-fetoprotein(alpha-FP) was also demonstrated in serum and in tissue sections. Alpha-fetoprotein(alpha-FP) was also elevated in the serum. Possible tumor origin was speculated.

7.An Analysis of Research on Postpartum Weight Retention.

Korean Journal of Women Health Nursing 2003;9(3):287-298
PURPOSE: To explain the concept of postpartum weight retention and to analyze factor effect on it. METHOD: A total of 20 studies related postpartum weight retention were selected in the year of 1988-2001 and analysis was done. RESULT: A demographic factor like parity, age, social and economic level and life style such as exercise, diet, breast feeding are influential factor on postpartum retention weight. But parts of them don't agree the same results. Meanwhile, in some studies, psychological factor like women's self esteem related to postpartum retention weight, body image change, depressing is found to be very related. As a result, postpartum overweight gain could be a bad factor of physical and mental health. In Korea, we have few studies related to them. CONCLUSION: It is required to do many-sided and deep studies about aspects of postpartum retention weight and the factor that effect on it. Postpartum retention weight should be approached by controling weight from the period of pregnancy. And it would rather be researched through individual approach considered women's various demographic, social- cultural and physical level than be required standardized level of weight gain.

Leukocytes, when subjected to phagocytic, immunologic or chemical stimuli, are known to exhibit a sequence of morphological and biochemical events which lead to the production of H₂, O₂, O₂⁻, and even OH as well as the secretion of various lysosomal lytic enzymes into the extracellular environments. It was been proposed that some antiinflammatory drugs may exert their therapeutic effects by inhibiting the production of reactive oxygen species or by abrogating the effects of reactive oxygen species ontissue components. In the present study, effects of various quenchers and antiinflammatory drugs were observed on the changes of viscosity of hyaluronate and collagen gelation by oxygen radicals generated by xanthine and xanthine oxidase. Quenching effects of antiinflammatory drugs on reactive oxygen species were also observed with gas chromatography. 1. Decrease of viscosity of hyaluronate and inhibition of collagen gelation by xanthine and xanthine oxidase were inhibited by various quenchers. 2. Several oxygen radical quenchers and antiinflammatory drugs did not affect viscosity of hyaluronate and collagen gelation. 3. Reactive ouygen species generated by xanthine and xanthine oxidase affected both viscosity of hyaluronate and collagen gelation with similar pattem. Therefore, in this study quenching effects of antiinflammatory drugs on reactive oxygen species have been examined by observing viscosity changes of hyaluronate. Sodium salicylate, acetylsalicylic acid, indomethacin and hydrocortisone affected viscosity changes of hyalumnate by xanthine and xanthine oxidase. The pattem of inhibition of hyaluronate degradation by these drugs were comparable to the inhibition produced by OH scavengers and singlet oxygen quencher. 4. To danonstrate the generation of OH ethylene was determined from methional incubated with xanthine and xanthine oxidase according to gas chromatography method. Xanthine and xanthine oxidase produced ethylene fmm methional and the production was inhibited by antiinflammatory drugs. The result obtained in this study suggest that action of antiinflammatory drugs may, to some event, be attributed to their ability to intercept reactive oxygen species in addition to inhibition of synthesis of prostaglandin.

In adenomatous polyposis coli there are many colonic and extracolonic manifestations, and various combinations of these induce different clinical presentations and syndromes. We experienced a unique case of adenomatous polyposis of the large intestine and stomach in a 39-year-old man. In the colon, small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma rather than adenocarcinoma had developed, which did not contain adenomatous or carcinomatous foci. The adenomatous polyps in the colon were all small and sessile with no cancerous or precancerous change two years after the resection of the symptomatic gastric adenomas, even though the gastric adenomas were larger and showed dysplastic change. We think this case is another variant of adenomatous polyposis syndrome.
