Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of the sacral nerve stimulation (SNS)on the neurogenic bladder. Methods SNS was used to treat 94 patients with neurogenic bladder. The ICI-Q-SF scores, voiding diary (including urinary incontinence times, urinal pad test, urination times, nocturia times and urinary volume) and urine dynamics test (including bladder volume, pressure of detrusor, maximum urinary flow rate, average urinary flow rate, pressure of bladder neck, maximal urethral pressure, functional urethral length and residual urine volume) were observed before and 1 week after SNS. And the data was analyzed statistically. Results The ICI-Q-SF scores were 17.2±1.8 before the treatment of SNS and 8.3±1.6 after SNS (P<0.05). The urinary incontinence times, urination times and nocturia times were significantly decreased (P<0.05) compared with those before treatment. The weight of urinal pads was lessened significantly (P<0.05), while the urinary volumes were increased significantly (P<0.05). The bladder volume, the maximum urinary flow rate and the average urinary flow rate were increased significantly (P<0.05) while the residual urine volumes were decreased significantly (P<0.05). There were no differences in pressure of detrusor, pressure of bladder neck, maximal urethral pressure and functional urethral length (P>0.05). No complication occurred in our study and total effective rate was 75.5%. Conclusions The therapeutic effect of SNS on the neurogenic bladder is sure, and the symptom of the neurogenic bladder is well improved with few complications. It should be widely used.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of Jiangtang Xiaozhi capsule (JXC) on morphological changes of islets and liver at rat model of type 2 diabetic mellitus and provide the experimental basis for the clinical therapy of type 2 diabetic mellitus.
METHODWister rats were fed on a diet enriched in fat and glucose to induce insulin resistan, the rats were injected intrapertoneally with a low-dose streptozotocin (STZ) twice (25 mg x kg(-1)) to induce hyperglycemia, so the successful rat model of type 2 diabetes were established. The experimental rats were divided into model group, high dose JXC group, middle dose JXC group, low dose JXC group, Erjiashuanggua group, Jinqijiangtang group and normal control group. After all the treatment groups received their own medicine for two months, all the rats were sacrificed and morphological examination on their islets and livers were performed.
RESULTFatty liver in various degrees was seen in the model group and all the treatment groups, but the liver steatosis in middle and low dose JXC groups was significantly milder than that in model group (P < 0.05). Islets in the high dose JXC group were significantly more than that in the model group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONJXC can improve significantly the pathological change in islets and liver steatosis at rat model of type 2 diabetic mellitus.

Preparative HPLC was used to prepare ferulic acid, senkyunolide I and senkyunolide H from Ligusticum chuanxiong. The separation was conducted on a Shim-Pack Prep-ODS (20.0 mm x 250 mm, 5 microm) column with the mobile phase of methanol-0.2% glacial acetic acid (50:50)at the flow rate of 5 mL x min(-1). The detection wavelength was 278 nm, and the purity of each compound was detected by HPLC analysis. Spectral data analyses including UV, ESI-MS and NMR were used to identify their structures. This method is simple, fast, which is suitable for preparation of standard reference of ferulic acid, senkyunolide I and senkyunolide H from L. chuanxiong and can meet the requirement of new drug research and development.

OBJECTIVETo extract two kinds of phenols 4-hydroxy-3, 5-dimethoxy-4-(2-oxopropyl) cyclohexa-2, 5-dien-l-one and 6-methoxy-5,7-dihydroxy coumarin (named as I and H compounds respectively) from Ajania salicifolia and to investigate their antioxidation and cytotoxicity to tumors and explore their pro-apoptosis mechanism.
METHODSThe antioxidant activities of two compounds were assessed by ABTS and DPPH radical-scavenging assays. Two compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxicity against human chronic myelogenous leukemia (K562) cells using the MIT assay. The expression of NF-kappaB P65 mRNA in K562 apoptotic cells was measured by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), real-time quantitative PCR. In addition, protein expression levels of the NF-ICB P65, p-Akt, Fas, P-catenina and E-cadherin were also measured by Western blot.
RESULTS(1) We found that compound I displayed significant inoxidizability, while compound II had no obvious antioxidizability. (2) In cytotoxicity experiments, compound I didn't display cytotoxicity while compound H displayed obvious cytotoxicity. (3) Compared with the blank group, the expression of NF-kappaB P65 mRNA in K562 cell after treatment with compound II was obviously up-regulated. (4) Compared with the blank group, the expression levels of NF-kappaB P65, Fas, beta-catenina and E-cadherin were significantly increased in compound II treated groups and it appeared obvious dose-effect relationship between the expression of protein and drug concentration.
CONCLUSIONTwo phenols have obvious antioxidizability and cytotoxicity respectively. On the one hand, the tumor-suppressing mechanism of compound II maybe act by up-regulation the expression of NF-kappaB P65 and Fas protein; thereby, affecting the classical Fas apoptosis signaling pathways. On the other hand, it can also up-regulate the expression of protein beta-catenin and E-cadherin, which participate in the adhesion between cells, and accordingly, playing an important role in preventing the proliferation and metastasis of cancer cells.

Journal of Zhejiang University. Medical sciences 2011;40(3):252-258
OBJECTIVETo access the association of xeroderma pigmentosum group C (XPC) Lys939Gln (A/C) and Ala499Val (C/T) polymorphisms with breast cancer risk in a Chinese Han population.
METHODS173 patients with breast cancer and 171 matched controls in terms of habitation and age (±5 years) were included in this population-based case-control study. Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method was employed to genotyping the Lys939Gln and Ala499Val polymorphisms. Associations of genotypes of Lys939Gln and Ala499Val with breast cancer risk were evaluated using unconditional logistic regression model. Associations between XPC haplotypes and breast cancer risk were estimated by Haplo. Stats package.
RESULTNo significant associations were observed both in individual SNPs and haplotype analyses. However, there was a significant interaction between XPC Lys939Gln polymorphism and menopausal status (P=0.032).
CONCLUSIONThe XPC Lys939Gln polymorphism may modulate breast cancer susceptibility jointly with the menopausal status.
