Chinese Journal of Neuromedicine 2009;8(7):734-736
Objective To analyze the effect of minimally invasive puncture combined with continuous lumbar subarachnoid drainage in the treatment of thalamic expanding hematoma. Methods Seventy-eight patients with thalamic expanding hematoma admitted in our department from 2004 to 2008 underwent minimally invasive puncture combined with continuous lumbar subarachnoid drainage according to the size of intracranial hematoma and the involvement of the cerebral ventricles. Results Of the 78 cases, death occurred in 10 cases, with a mortality rate of 12.8%. The other 68 (87.2%) patients exhibited postoperative recovery of different degrees. Follow-up of the 68 patients for over 6 months after the operation showed that 30 patients had grade 1 Activity of Daily Living (ADL) with independence in daily living, 25 had grade 2 ADL (partially independent in daily living), 19 had grade 3 ADL (capable of assisted walking), 3 had grade 4 ADL (bedridden but conscious), and one patient had grade 5 ADL (in persistent vegetative state). Conclusion This combined treatment with individualized operations reduces the surgical trauma to the minimum and lowers the cost for effective elimination of the hematoma. This procedure also effectively lowers the intracranial pressures and promotes the neurological recovery of the patients with thalamic expanding hematoma.

Objective:To observe the clinical effect of electroacupuncture(EA)combined with exercise therapy on balance function in patients with knee osteoarthritis(KOA). Methods:Seventy patients with KOA were randomly divided into a treatment group and a control group, with 35 cases in each group. The treatment group was treated with EA combined with exercise therapy.EA was applied to Dubi(ST35),Neixiyan(EX-LE4),Xuehai(SP10),Liangqiu(ST34),Yanglingquan(GB34),and Zusanli(ST 36).Exercise therapy(muscle strength training and knee mobility training)was applied after EA.The control group only received the same exercise therapy as the treatment group. The two groups were treated with the same course of treatment,3 times a week for 4 consecutive weeks,12 times in total, and followed up for 1 month. The Pro-Kin254P balance test system was used to measure the balance function parameters at 4 time points, including before treatment, after 1 session of treatment, after 12 sessions of treatment, and at 1-month follow-up after treatment. The visual analog scale(VAS)and the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities osteoarthritis index(WOMAC)scores were recorded. Results:The markedly effective rate and total effective rate in the treatment group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.01).The Romberg area,Romberg length, and VAS scores of the two groups decreased significantly after 1 session of treatment,12 sessions of treatment, and 1 month after treatment, and the differences between different time points in the same group were statistically significant(P<0.01).There were significant differences between the two groups at the same time point(P<0.05).The total WOMAC scores of the two groups after 1 session of treatment,12 sessions of treatment, and 1 month after treatment decreased significantly, and there were significant differences between different time points in the same group(P<0.05),but there was no significant difference between the two groups at the same time point(P>0.05). Conclusion:EA combined with exercise therapy or exercise therapy alone can enhance the balance function, relieve joint pain, and improve joint function in patients with KOA.EA combined with exercise therapy is superior to exercise therapy alone in improving balance function and pain, but the two treatment protocols have similar effects in improving joint function.

Chinese Journal of Cancer 2001;20(1):49-52
Objective: The current study was designed to investigate the expression of p73 gene in lung cancer tissue. Methods: The authors detected quantitatively p73 gene expression in 40 specimens of lung cancer and matched paracancer tissue by RT PCR and analyzed the alteration of p73 by PCR and SSCP. Results: ① Using RT PCR, 24 specimens of lung cancer were determined to be overexpression of p73, 9 of which were moderately differentiated, 15 of which were poor differentiated; 9 of which were Stage Ⅰ-Ⅱ , 15 of which were Stage Ⅲ-Ⅳ . No specimen of paracancer tissue was screened out to be overexpression of p73. There was significantly different expression rates between lung cancer and paracancer tissue (P< 0.01). ② Allele specific analysis showed that expression of G/C: A/T appeared in 10 of 12 heterozygous lung cancer specimens and expression of G/C in 27 specimens. ③ No mutation was detected by SSCP. Conclusion: The expression of p73 gene may be related to differentiation level of lung cancer but not related to clinical stage.
