Objective To probe the mechanism of metronidazole resistance to Helicobacter pylori (Hp). Methods (1) The selective pressure test of metronidazole. (2) SDSPAGE electrophoresis. (3) Nitrate reduction test. (4) Test for detecting the enzyme activities associated with 95 substrates of gram negative. Results After the mutation of Hp from sensitive to resistant strains, the activities of enzymes associated with monomethyl succinate, succinic acid and Dalanine is decreased, and those associated with Lfucose 6phosphate glucose is increased. Conclusions The metronidazole resistance of Hp is associated with the metabolism and the change of enzyme activities.

Objective To evaluate the performance of electrolyte module in OLYMPUS AU5421 Automatic Biochemical Analy-zer in K+ ,Na+ ,Cl- detection .Methods Electrolyte module in OLYMPUS AU5421 Automatic Biochemical Analyzer was employed to detect K+ ,Na+ ,Cl- ,and their precision ,accuracy ,linearity range ,cross-contamination and the test results of instruments were compared .The linear regression equation and regression coefficients were calculated according to the methods of Clinical and Labo-ratory Standards Institute(CLSI) EP6-A ,EP9-A2 documents .Results The within-run precisions of K + ,Na+ ,Cl- were 0 .328% , 0 .306% ,0 .343% ,respectively ,and their between-run precisions were 0 .780% ,1 .012% ,0 .985% ,respectively .Their regression coefficients of linear equation were all greater than 0 .999 ,and their cross-contamination rate were 1 .066% ,0 .812% and 0 .858% , respectively .Conclusion Electrolyte module in OLYMPUS AU5421 Automatic Biochemical Analyzer modules has advantages of good precision ,accuracy ,linear range ,and low cross-contamination rate .

AIM: To evaluate the results of preservative free sodium hyaluronate and basic fibroblast growth factor(bFGF) eye drops in the treatment of dry eyes after eye operation.·METHODS: One hundred and thirty two patients of dryeyes underwent 149 different eye surgeries. The Schirmer test Ⅰ and tear break up time (BUT) were performed prior to surgery and post operatively after 2 weeks and after 4 weeks when the patients were using Oflaxacine, Tobramycin-dexamethasone eye drops. In addition, preservative free sodium hyaluronate and bFGF eye drops were given post operatively. The antibiotic-cortisone eye drops were stopped after the requirted period depending on the type of eye surgery done, and preservative free sodium hyaluronate and bFGF eye drops were stopped after 4 weeks.Then, after 5 weeks Schirmer test Ⅰ and BUT were done.·RESULTS: The Schirmer test Ⅰ and BUT results prior to surgery and after eye surgery showed a statistically significant improvement of the dry eye condition.·CONCLUSION: Usage of preservative free sodium hysluronate and bFGF eye drops help definitely in the management of dry eye after ophthalmic surgery.

Objective To investigate the protective effect of Gabexate mesilate(GM)on D-galactosamine- lipopolysaccharide-indneed acute liver failure in rats.Methods The model of acute liver failure in rats was produced by injection of D-galactosamine(D-GalN)and lipopolysaccharide(LPS).The alanine aminotransferase(ALT),aspartate aminotransferase(AST)in serum and malondiadehyde(MDA)content,superoxide dismutase(SOD)and glutathione peroxidase(GSH-PX)activities in liver homogenate were assayed by spectrophotometry.The levels of turnout necrosis factor-?(TNF-?),interleukin-?(IL-?)and interleukin-6(IL-6)were determined by ELISA method.Hepatic pathological examination was observed.Results 25 mg?kg~(-1),50mg?kg~(1),100 mg?kg~(-1) of GM significantly decreased the serum transaminase activities,the infiltration of inflammatory cells,and MDA content,hut didn't reduce SOD and GSH- PX activities in liver homogenate.GM significantly reduced TNF-?,IL-1?and IL-6 levels in serum.Conclusions GM showed significant protective effects on acute liver failure in rats.

Objective To study the changes of trans-diaphragmatic pressure (Ptra) and its correlation with esophageal pressure (Peso) through ARDS piglet model.Methods Five piglets were enrolled in the study.Peso,gastric pressure (Pgas) and intra-thoracic pressure (Pint) was monitored through balloon inserted.The data before ARDS serve as control.ARDS was produced in the piglets through saline lavage.The pressure were observed and the Ptra were calculated.The pressure changes and correlation between Ptra and Peso were analyzed as well.Linear regression with the coefficient of determination and t-test were used as appropriate.Significance was assumed for P ＜ 0.05.Results Peso,Pgas and Pint before ARDS were 7.3 ± 1.9,25.5 ± 2.4,- 1.23 ± 0.21 cmH2O,Ptra was 18.2 ± 1.6 cmH2O.While after ARDS,the data were 4.7 ± 1.4,31.1 ± 3.1 and - 1.79 ± 0.28 cmH2O,and Ptra was 26.4 ± 2.1 cmH2 O,and all these changes were obviously ( P ＜ 0.05 ).The correlation between Pint and Peso,Pint and Ptra (A) and Ptra ( B ) were 0.93 ± 0.025,0.88 ± 0.023 and 0.87 ± 0.37 before ARDS.After ARDS,the correlation changed to be 0.82 ±0.21,0.81 ±0.20 and 0.78 ±0.31.Although a bit decreased,the correlation was still positive (P ＜ 0.01 ).Conclusions There existed good correlations between Peso and Ptra as well as between Pint and Peso before or after ARDS.Ptra was increased obviously after ARDS,which could lead to respiratory muscle fatigue.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the dynamic changes of Streptococcus mutans concentration of plaque during fixed appliance treatment and the effects of two materials of ligation on Streptococcus mutans concentration.

METHODSTwenty-eight patients undergoing fixed appliance treatment were observed. Ligature wire and elastomeric rings were applied on one side of arches, stochastically. The dynamic changes on the quantity and percentage of Streptococcus mutans were observed before and after fixed appliance bonding.

RESULTSStatistically significant increase of the quantity and percentage of Streptococcus mutans was found after fixed appliance bonding, and the percentage of Streptococcus mutans in the plaque around the brackets ligated with elastomeric rings was more than that of ligature wire at the beginning of fixed appliance bonding, statistically.

CONCLUSIONSThe finding suggested that the caries-associated capability of the plaque increased after bonding and there was greater caries-associated capability of the plague on the teeth when elastomeric rings was used than that of the plague when ligature wire was used at treatment beginning. The ligature wire is recommended in the fixed appliance treatment.
