Aim To investigate the effects of maternal chronic aluminum exposure on memorial behaviour and hippocampal intracellular Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i)on their offspring after the induction of LTP(long-term potentiation). Methods Adult Wistar rats (150~200 g) were exposed to aluminum by drinking distilled water, the concentration of AlCl3 is 0.015 mol?L-1(2 g?L-1) and 0.03 mol?L-1(4 g?L-1) aluminum chloride (AlCl3) solution, respectively, for 30 days prior to mating and during the whole gestation and suckling period. Their offspring were distributed into three experimental groups: control group; two exposed groups (represented by 0.2%-Al and 0.4%-Al ) administrated aluminum exposure ended at postnatal day 21. The brain tissue and blood aluminum levels were measured by Atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS). Memorial ability of the offspring was tested by Step down test.[Ca2+]i was measured by the technique of Fura-2/AM calcium ions fluorescence indicator. Results The mean aluminum content in blood and brain tissue was significantly higher than the control group(P0.05), but was significantly decreased in 0.4%-Al exposed group(P

Abstract?AIM: To evaluate the visual acuity, visual function, q uality of lfi e, and cost/effectiveness of cataract surgery in patients with low soc ioeconomics tatus ( LSES ) who received government subsidies for free cataract surgery.?METHODS: Retrospectively, 334 eyes of 334 patient s were reviewed. Visual function and quality of l ife questionnaires we re available in 83 patie nts. The cost/effectiveness of cataract surgery was analyzed in 225 patients with LSES and 12 0 patients who rec eived standard cataract surgery. Mutl iple linear regression anal ysis and logistic regression analysis were used to assess the factors affecting the postoperative visual acuity.?RESULTS: At 1wk postoperatively, uncorrected visual acuity ( UCVA ) was improved significantly compared to these preoperait vely (P<0.50 ), 235 eyes (70.4%) had UCVA of 20/40 or better, and 16 eyes (4.8%) had UC VA wor se than 20/400. Multiple linear regresis on ana lysis revealed that other ocular diseases and cataract classification wer e factors contributing to po stop erative UC VA. Logistic regression analysis showed that low preoperative visual ac uti y and other ocular diseases were risk factors of postopera tive low vision, and the odds ratio (95%confidence int erval) values were 6.5 (2.8-14.8) and 1.3 (1.0-1.6), respe ctively.Visual fun ction and quality of life were significantly improved after the surgery. Th e cost/effetc iveness of c ataract su rgery in patients with LSES was lower than that in standard cataract patients.?CONCLUSION: Visual acuity and visual function were significantly better after the surgery in catara ct patients wti h LSES, and the operation cost was low.Quality of life in these patients was significantly improved.

OBJECTIVETo identify single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) of the angiotensin II type 2 receptor (AGTR2) gene, and to determine whether the AGTR2 polymorphisms are associated with essential hypertension in a male Chinese population.
METHODSDirect DNA sequencing was performed in 20 subjects. 96 male hypertensive patients and 107 normal controls were included to assess the contribution of the SNP of AGTR2 gene to hypertension.
RESULTSSeven SNP of the AGTR2 gene were identified, of which 4 were reported for the first time. A case-control study including two polymorphisms (A1675G and T1334C) showed a significant increase in the A1675 allele frequency among male hypertensive subjects as compared with normotensive subjects (49.0% vs 34.6%, P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONThe AGTR2 A1675G polymorphism might be involved in the development of essential hypertension in male Chinese.

OBJECTIVETo explore the therapeutic methods of adrenal incidentalomas.
METHODSThe data of 156 cases were analyzed retrospectively.
RESULTSThe operation were performed in 151 cases, radiotherapy and chemotherapy in 1 case and follow up in 4 cases. The diameter of the tumors were 1.3-15.0 cm. Pathological results indicated that 34 cases were pheochromocytoma, 83 adrenal cortical adenoma, 5 adrenal cortical carcinoma, 3 metastases carcinoma, and 26 other benign tumors. One hundred and thirty-six cases were followed-up for 1-7 years. 3 cases of metastases carcinoma died in 1.5 years, 2 cases of cortical carcinoma died in 2.0 and 2.5 years for recurrence and metastases. One hundred and thirty-one cases survived healthy, 3 cases of them take orally dexamethasone for 1 year after post-operation.
CONCLUSIONSSurgical operations should be performed in malignant tumors, hypersecretion tumors, deuto-clinical adrenal cortical tumors, pheochromocytoma and those whose diameters of tumors are over 3 cm. But those whose tumors had non-hypersecretion and diameters are less than 3 cm should be followed up closely.

OBJECTIVEThe purpose of this study was to investigate the distribution of collagen I, II , X, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and their roles during initiation of condylar cartilage of the fetal mouse.
METHODSCoronary sections of mandible of mouse embryo aged from 14th to 18th day were studied under light microscope after stained by immunohistochemical method with antibody of types I, II, X collagen and ALP.
RESULTSOn the 14th day of mouse embryo, it was found that mesenchymal cells condensation continuous with the periosteum. Type I collagen and ALP were positive behind the terminal of the ossifying mandibular periosteum where future condylar will form. On the 15th day, positive staining for types I, II collagen was found in mesenchymal cells around hypertrophic cells and type X collagen was detected in hypertrophic cells. ALP was positive in both mesenchymal cells and hypertrophic cells. On the 16th day, type I collagen was observed from periosteal osteogenic cells and mesenchymal cells of the fibrous cell layer to the upper hypertrophic cell layer while Type II collagen was restricted from the lower polymorphic cell layer to the bottom of the hypertropic cell layer. Type X collagen was positive in the hypertrophic cell layer. ALP was positive in periosteal osteogenic cells and hypertrophic chondral cells, but not in the polymorphic cell layer.
CONCLUSIONDevelopment of condylar cartilage is different from that of limb bone. Types I, II, X collagen are expressed in the condylar chondrocyte on the early stage of endochondral ossification. The histology evidence supports the conjecture that condylar cartilage is derived from differentiated mesenchymal cells of the preperiosteum or periosteum of the mandible where ALP is positively expressed.

In this paper, biomarkers of liver toxicity of Triptergium wilfordii based on metabolomics was screened, and mechanism of liver toxicity was explored to provide a reference for the clinical diagnosis for liver toxicity of Triptergium wilfordii. MS method was carried on the analysis to metabolic fingerprint spectrum between treatment group and control group. The potential biomarkers were compared and screened using the multivariate statistical methods. As well, metabolic pathway would be detailed description. Combined with PCA and OPLS-DA pattern recognition analysis, 20 metabolites were selected which showed large differences between model group and blank group (VIP > 1.0). Seven possible endogenous biomarkers were analyzed and identified. They were 6-phosphate glucosamine, lysophospholipid, tryptophan, guanidine acetic acid, 3-indole propionic acid, cortisone, and ubiquinone. The level changes of above metabolites indicated that the metabolism pathways of amino acid, glucose, phospholipid and hormone were disordered. It is speculated that liver damage of T. wilfordii may be associated with the abnormal energy metabolism in citric acid cycle, amino acid metabolism in urea cycle, and glucose metabolism. It will be helpful to further research liver toxicity ingredients of Triptergium wilfordii.
