OBJECTIVETo evaluate the safety and effectiveness of magnesium sulphate for reducing the incidence of the emergence agitation in patients undergoing surgery for esophageal carcinoma with general anesthesia.
METHODSThis randomized, double-blind, controlled clinical trial was conducted in patients undergoing elective radical resection of esophageal carcinoma in Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital between October, 2015 and March, 2016. The patients underwent surgeries under general intravenous anesthesia, and after anesthesia induction, the patients were infused with magnesium sulphate at the rate of 0.1 mL·kg·h(2.5 g magnesium sulphate in 50 ml saline pumped at 5 mg·kg·h) or saline (control group) at the same speed until the end of the surgery. The Riker's sedation agitation scale, pain score, muscle tension score, extubation time, residence time in the postanesthesia care unit (PACU), and adverse reactions were recorded.
RESULTSA total of 108 patients were enrolled including 57 in magnesium sulphate group and 51 in the control group. Riker's sedation agitation scale in the PACU, pain score, and muscle tension score were all significantly lower but the extubation time was longer in magnesium sulphate group than in the control group (P<0.05). In all the patients, blood Calevel was reduced significantly after the operation; blood Mglevel was significantly lowered postoperatively in the control group, and the postoperative Mglevel was significantly higher in magnesium sulphate group than in the control group (P<0.05). Mglevel underwent no significant variations in magnesium sulphate group after the operation (P>0.05). The residence time in the PACU, postoperative Riker's sedation agitation scale score, and blood Klevel were all similar between the two groups(P>0.05).
CONCLUSIONInfusion of magnesium sulphate at 5 mg·kg·hcan significantly reduce the incidence of emergence agitation in patients undergoing esophageal carcinoma under general anesthesia without causing such complications such as muscle recovery delay or electrolyte disorder.

To study the effect of Yinghua Pinggan granule (YHPG) against influenza A/H1N1 virus in vivo and on the immunologic function of infected mice. The intranasal influenza virus infection was adopted in ICR mouse to establish the influenza virus pneumonia model. At the 3rd and 7th day after the infection, the lung index and pathologic changes in lung tissues of mice were detected. Realtime PCR and flow cytometry were employed to observe the virus load in lung tissues and the levels of CD4+, CD8+, and CD4+/CD8+ in peripheral blood. The result showed that at the 3rd and 7th day after the infection, YHPG (15, 30 g x kg(-1)) can significant decrease in the lung index and virus load in lung tissues of mice infected with influenza virus, alleviate the pathologic changes in lung tissues, significantly increase the levels of CD4+ and CD4+/CD8+ ratio and reduce the levels of CD8+ in whole blood. This indicated that YHPG can inhibit the influenza virus replication, alleviate pulmonary damage and adjust the weak immunologic function of infected mice, with a certain therapeutic effect on mice infected by H1N1 virus in vivo.

Chinese Journal of Contemporary Pediatrics 2012;14(3):215-220
OBJECTIVETo study the effects of miR-124-1 on neuronal differentiation of rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs).
METHODSMSCs cells were assigned into three groups: control (uninfected and untransfected), miR-124-1+ (infected with miR-124-1), and miR-124-1- (transfected with Anti-rno-miR-124* Inhibitor). MSCs were induced by β-mercaptoethanol (β-ME) to differentiate into neurons. The fluorescence expressed by infected MSCs was observed under an inverted fluorescence microscope. MTT method was used to measure cell survival rate after transfection or infection. Immunocytochemistry, RT-PCR and Western blot methods were used to detect the expression of β3 tubulin, MAP-2 and GFAP 6 days after β-ME induction.
RESULTSThe expression of miR-124-1 in the miR-124-1+ group was significantly higher 2 days after infection of lentivirus vector compared with the control group (P<0.01). In the miR-124-1- group, the cell survival rate and the miR-124-1 expression level decreased significantly 24 hrs after transfection of anti-rno-miR-124* inhibitor (P<0.01). After 6 days of β-ME induction, the protein and mRNA expression levels of β3 tubulin and MAP-2 in the miR-124-1+ group were much higher than the other two groups (P<0.01); while the expression levels of β3 tubulin and MAP-2 in the miR-124-1-group were lower than the control group (P<0.01). The expression of GFAP in the three groups was weak (<1%).
CONCLUSIONSmiR-124 might promote neuronal differentiation of rat MSCs.
