Journal of Korean Academy of Fundamental Nursing 1995;2(1):45-53
In order to nursing practice of the patient in Oriental medicine, it is suggested that the fundamental recognition of Oriental medicine should be preceded. It is, however, difficult that we comprehend Oriental medicine generally since it is different from Western medicine in the point of th symptom. We have thought that is to be carried out to select and analyze a disease by the sense of Oriental medicine for the establishment of Oriental medical nursing. So we have tried out the analysis of Tae-Yang. In view of the results so far achieved, it has been suggested that Tae-Yang Symptom applies to the first step of Sanghan Yug Kyung Symptom and consists of Palsy, Sanghan, Onbyung, Dropsy, and Congestion. In the Oriental medicine, Tae-yang Symptom is recognized to be concerned with a common cold and the respiratory, renal and hepatic diseases. In the points of Orintal medicine, it is noticed that Tae-Yang Symptom is caused by the wind and cold evil, is related to human resisting force, and is fused with each other. And the treatment of Tae-Yang Symptom is various by the cause and the pathological mechanism. In the points of Western medicine, it is difficult to comprehend that various disease germs revolving each disease are implied by identical symptom. The summary of this study are as follows ; 1. In the outer-caused diseases, so called Tae-Yang Symptom, it is an important index to the patient's resisting force and the type of a disease whether he sweats, chills and the pulse is tense or not. 2. the treatments are various according the body's resisting force and the type of symptoms ; harmonizing Yung & Wee to Weakness of surface, soporifics flourishing of evils, and antifebriles to On-byung. 3. If Tae-Yang Symptom is not cured, it progresses to develop complications ; Dropsy & congestion, the former brings about renal diseases and the latter hepatic diseases. According to the results mentioned above, we have come to the conclusion that the Oriental - medical nursing must emphasis the body's sesiting force and the type of symptoms rather than the name of a disease.

Journal of Korean Academy of Community Health Nursing 2007;18(2):284-292
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to explore and understanding the nature of the shift workers' experience in industries requiring 24 hours-a-day service provision and support. For the purpose, the present researcher made a research question, "What are workers' experience in the shift work?" METHODS: In the study, 5 male shift workers, 3 female shift worker and a woman (key informant) whose husband is a shift worker participated. Then profound interviews with the participants were made after their agreement. RESULTS: The researcher classified the significant statements under 6 theme clusters, 1) sense of difference; 2) worries about health; 3) draining of emotion; 4) anxiety; 5) sadness; and 6) being comfortable. CONCLUSIONS: Shift work which is inevitable in modern society may have severe influences on shift workers' physical, mental and psychological aspects by causing their work cycle rhythm to be unbalanced. Finally, the researcher hopes that the results of the study would help understand workers' life and increase social concern and support to the workers.

Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2007;37(6):924-931
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to describe the essence of the experiences of patients in an ICU, and to understand them from the patients' point of view. METHODS: Participants in this study were six patients in P hospital. Data collection consisted of in-depth interviews and an observation method done from January to April in 2005. The method was analysis using the phenomenological method proposed by Colaizzi(1978). RESULTS: The themes were classified into eight theme clusters. The eight theme clusters were finally grouped into four categories, 'shock', 'pain', 'gratefulness' and 'pleasure of revival'. CONCLUSION: The ICU patients had negative experiences in physical.mental critical situations, but also positive experiences in consolation and nurses and families' encouragement. Therefore, ICU nurses must support patients and their families to minimize the negative experiences and maximize the positive experiences.

Korean Journal of Anesthesiology 2004;46(4):454-461
BACKGROUND: Dobutamine, isoproterenol, and milrinone are inotropic agents with vasodilatory properties, and are frequently used perioperatively. We undertook to examine the effects of these three drugs on the pulmonary vasculature, excluding cardiovascular effects, by determining their effects on pulmonary artery pressure and hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction in an isolated rat lung model. METHODS: Thirty Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into a dobutamine group (n = 10), an isoproterenol group (n = 10) and a milrinone group (n = 10). Dobutamine 50microgram, 500microgram, and 5,000microgram, isoproterenol 0.4microgram, 4microgram, and 40microgram, and milrinone 2.5microgram, 25microgram, and 250microgram were added to perfusate sequentially during normoxic ventilation (21% O2-5% CO2-balanced N2). Baseline pulmonary artery pressure changes and subsequent hypoxic pressor responses during hypoxic ventilation (5% O2-5% CO2-balanced N2) were observed. RESULTS: Dobutamine, isoproterenol, and milrinone all decreased baseline pulmonary artery pressures and hypoxic pressor responses in a dose-dependent manner (P < 0.05). The last dose listed for each of the three drugs reversed hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction nearly completely. The calculated dose required to reduce the hypoxic pressor response to 50% of the initial response before drug administration (ED50) was 155microgram (95% CI: 80-263microgram) for dobutamine, 0.23microgram (95% CI: 0.011-0.75 microgram) for isoproterenol and 6.31microgram (95% CI: 3.1-10.8microgram) for milrinone. The relative potency of the drugs on HPV, based on ED50 was dobutamine 10: isoproterenol 0.015: and milrinone 0.41. CONCLUSIONS: Dobutamine, isoproterenol, and milrinone all reduced pulmonary vascular resistance and hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction in a dose dependent manner. Korean Journal of Ophthalmology 2018;32(3):234-240
PURPOSE: To assess the relationship between eye position and anesthesia depth using the bispectral index (BIS) value, a parameter derived from electroencephalography data. METHODS: We investigated the relationship between BIS value and eye position in 32 children who underwent surgery for epiblepharon under general anesthesia. BIS values were recorded continuously throughout the procedure (from induction to awakening). Eye positions were video-recorded and analyzed after surgery. The vertical position of each eye was scored according to its height in relation to the medial canthus. An eye position in which the upper eyelid covered one-third of the cornea was defined as a significant ocular elevation. RESULTS: The BIS value correlated inversely with the end-tidal concentration of each anesthetic agent, whereas it correlated positively with the eye elevation score (eye position = 0.014 × BIS + 0.699, p = 0.011). The mean eye position score was significantly greater in patients whose BIS values were over 65. Eleven patients (34.4%) had significant ocular elevation; their mean concurrent BIS value was 61.6. Two of these patients had elevation during surgery and 9 had elevation during emergence from anesthesia. CONCLUSIONS: We found that high BIS values were correlated with low levels of anesthetic concentration and high eye position, suggesting that BIS monitoring may be useful for predicting eye position during anesthesia. Particular attention must be given to eye position during ophthalmic surgery. Anesthesia depth can be maintained by assuring that the BIS value remains below 65.

Journal of Dental Hygiene Science 2024;24(3):125-133
Background:
The management of dental plaque and the appropriate use of oral hygiene tools are crucial for oral health. Withincreasing interest in oral health care, various oral hygiene products are available on the market. As the most basic oral hygiene tool, the large-head toothbrush has gained significant consumer interest. This study evaluates the suitability of large-head toothbrushes as oral hygiene tools by comparing their efficacy with that of regular-sized toothbrushes.
Methods:
We evaluated the efficacy of large-head and regular-sized toothbrushes. The amount of dental plaque before and afterbrushing was measured using quantitative light-induced fluorescence digital (QLF-D) images and the plaque index (PI) in adult participants with more than 28 teeth (n=15/group). After brushing, the collected toothbrushes were rinsed 10 times in clean water, thoroughly dried, and weighed on an electronic scale. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test with SPSS Statistics Version 29.0.
Results:
QLF-D analysis showed a significant decrease in fluorescence intensity scores after use of a regular-sized toothbrush, whereas the scores after use of a large-head toothbrush were not significantly reduced. PI measurements indicated significant reductions in dental plaque for both head types. However, detailed analysis by tooth surface revealed that the regular-sized toothbrush significantly reduced plaque on the proximal, palatal/lingual, and labial/buccal surfaces. In contrast, the large-head toothbrush only showed significant reductions in place on the proximal and palatal/lingual surfaces, not on the labial/buccal surface. Additionally, compared to the regular-sized toothbrush, the large-head toothbrush retained more toothpaste residue despite similar cleaning efforts after brushing.
Conclusion
Compared to the regular-sized toothbrush, the large-head toothbrush showed lower overall efficacy in dentalplaque removal. The results of this study provide significant information regarding the use of large-head toothbrushes.
