1.Transcatheter arterial embolism for postpartum hemorrhage

We reviewed the clinical data of 24 patients with postpartum hemorrhage undergoing transcatheter arterial embolism from March 2009 to September 2011.Twenty out of 24 patients underwent uterine artery embolism,while other 4 underwent internal iliac artery embolism.The hemorrhage reduced markedly 2 to 9 min after arterial embolism in all patients,except 2 who underwent secondary embolism due to the intermittent postoperative hemorrhage. The postoperative complications included low fever and discomfort in lower abdomen.Nineteen patients were followed up for a mean period of ( 17.3 ± 1.1 ) months,no recurrent hemorrhage was observed after discharge.The normal menstrual cycle recovered 4 to 6 months after operation.Three patients underwent pregnancy successfully after discharge.The results indicate that transcatheter arterial embolism is safe and effective in the treatment of postpartum hemorrhage and it should be recommended as a feasible choice in clinical practice.
2.Observation of cardiomyocytes stimulated by TNF-?, IL-1?, LPS in vitro

AIM: To observe the changes of cardiomyocytes after stimulation by TNF-?, IL-1?, LPS.METHODS: Cardiac ventricular myocytes were cultured in vitro. Different doses of TNF-?, IL-1?, LPS were added to stimulate the cardiomyocytes, the hypertrophy of cardiomyocytes 8 h, 24 h, and 48 h after stimulation was determined and the apoptosis were also observed 24 h, 48 h, 72 h after stimulation. RESULTS: Compared to the normal myocytes, the cardiomyocytes were hypertrophied after stimulation by 10 ?g/L, 15 ?g/L of TNF-?, 20 ?g/L, 100 ?g/L of IL-1? and 10 mg/L, 15 mg/L, 20 mg/L of LPS, and the effect was dose-dependent, the strongest effect was showed in 24 h. Moreover, 20 ?g/L of TNF-?, 100 ?g/L of IL-1? and 30 mg/L of LPS caused cardiomyocyte apoptosis, especially in 72h. CONCLUSION: TNF-?, IL-1?, LPS induced the cardiomyocyte hypertrophy and apoptosis, suggesting the inflammation may be the main cause of cardiovascular disease.
3.Diagnosis and treatment of uveal metastasis in patients with breast cancer

Objective To study the occurrence,diagnosis and treatment of uveal metastasis in patients with breast cancer.Methods In 2400 cases of breast cancer patients,2 cases of uveal metastasis admitted from Jan.2007 to Aug.2011 in our hospital were retrospectively analyzed to study the occurrence,diagnosis and treatment.Results Both the 2 cases had the symptoms of blurred vision and hypopsia.Fundus examination and funds fluorescein angiography showed that the 2 cases had unilateral choroidal metastasis with the discovery rate of 0.08%.Case 1 was found to have uveal metastasis before breast cancer was confirmed and case 2 was found to have uveal metastasis during the 4th chemotherapy cycle.No other distant metastasis was found in these 2 patients.The eye symptoms improved obviously after chemotherapy.Conclusions In order to get a good therapeutic effect for breast cancer patients with uveal metastasis,we should pay attention to patients' symptoms and signs.Eyes examination should be taken when patients have eye symptoms and signs.
4.Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells combined with VEGF gene for the treatment of limb ischemia in rabbits

Objective To evaluate bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells combined with VEGF gene in the treatment of limb ischemia in rabbits.Methods The right hind limb ischemia model of New Zealand rabbit was established by superficial femoral artery excision and deep femoral artery ligation.Rabbits then were divided randomly into 4 groups: empty plasmid control group(EP group),bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells group(BMSC group),VEGF gene therapy group(VEGF group),combination bone mesenchymal stem cells and VEGF gene therapy group(BV group).There were 8 rabbits in each group.Angiogenesis was detected by arteriography on day 28 after treatment and expression of VEGF was detected by immunohistochemical staining on day 30 after treatment.Results There were no differences of collateral vessel count between the EP group,BMSC group and VEGF group.The collateral vessel count in BV group was higher than that of the other three groups.Immunohistochemistry of VEGF showed that the integrated optical density(IOD)in BMSC and VEGF groups increased significantly compared with the EP group; the IOD in BV group was the highest compared with the other three groups.Conclusions Combination bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells and VEGF gene in the treatment of limb ischemia in rabbits can obtain stable and effective expression of VEGF along with significant improvement of limb ischemia.
5.Mechanism of reactive oxygen species in manganese chloride-induced apoptosis in PC12 cells.

OBJECTIVETo explore the mechanism of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in manganese chloride (MnCl(2))-induced apoptosis in PC12 cells.
METHODSThe model that MnCl(2) induced apoptosis in PC12 cells was established. The apoptotic effect of MnCl(2) on PC12 cells was analyzed with the MTT, the flow cytometry and the DNA fragmentation. The production of ROS and ATP in MnCl(2)-induced apoptosis of PC12 cells was examined. The influence of MnCl(2) on the expression of bcl-xl, bax and the activity of Caspase 3 was also analyzed.
RESULTSMnCl(2) triggered PC12 cells apoptosis in a dose-and time-dependent manner (P < 0.01). The rate of apoptosis was significantly increased (P < 0.01) when MnCl(2) of 2 mmol/L induced PC12 cells for 36 hours. The production of ROS was increased (P < 0.001) and the quantity of ATP was decreased (P < 0.01) in PC12 cells with the same inducement of MnCl(2). The expression of bcl-xl was inhibited and the bax was activated in this process (P < 0.01). Caspase 3 was also activated (P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONMnCl(2) induces apoptosis of PC12 cells, which is related to the increase of ROS, the inhibition of the mitochondria and the activation of Caspase 3.

6.Protective effect of NEP on Abeta-induced apoptosis in PC12 cells.

OBJECTIVETo identify the effect of NEP on Abeta -induced apoptosis in PC12 cells.
METHODSPC12 cells that stably express NEP is generated and the effect of NEP on the process of apoptosis induced by Abeta is analyzed, including the viability of the cells, the production of LDH, ROS and ATP, the activity of Caspase-3.
RESULTSNEP could improve the viability of cells and the production of ATP, inhibit the release of LDH and ROS. In the same time, the activity of caspase-3 descended (P < 0.05). But iNEP had not significant effect on cells apoptosis (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONNEP has the protective effect on Abeta-induced apoptosis in PC12 cells.

7.Parentage testing anomalies in Hong Kong SAR of China.

OBJECTIVETo determine if there are any differences in the number of exclusions from paternity of men using an anonymous parentage testing service compared with that of men using an in-person parentage testing service provided by the same company in Hong Kong SAR of China.
METHODSComparable numbers of consecutive anonymous and in-person parentage tests conducted by the same company were analyzed.
RESULTSMen using an anonymous parentage testing service were excluded from paternity at a significantly greater rate (P < 0.001), compared with men using an in-person parentage test service.
CONCLUSIONSThe results obtained from anonymous parentage testing indicate that the number of families containing children of doubtful parentage is much greater than expected previously. As illegitimate children are known to suffer greater degrees of abuse and neglect, this finding poses serious social questions regarding the welfare of families, which the relevant authorities should acknowledge and address.

8.Research on Zhejiang blood information network and management system.

This research was aimed to develop the first level blood information centralized database and real time communication network at a province area in China. Multiple technology like local area network database separate operation, real time data concentration and distribution mechanism, allopatric backup, and optical fiber virtual private network (VPN) were used. As a result, the blood information centralized database and management system were successfully constructed, which covers all the Zhejiang province, and the real time exchange of blood data was realised. In conclusion, its implementation promote volunteer blood donation and ensure the blood safety in Zhejiang, especially strengthen the quick response to public health emergency. This project lays the first stone of centralized test and allotment among blood banks in Zhejiang, and can serve as a reference of contemporary blood bank information systems in China.

9.A case of Leigh syndrome associated with respiratory chain complex I deficiency due to mitochondrial gene 13513G>A mutation.

Leigh syndrome is a genetically heterogeneous disease caused by defects in enzymes involved in aerobic energy metabolism and the Krebs', cycle. Mitonchondrial complex I deficiency is a main cause of Leigh syndrome. In this study, a Chinese child with Leigh syndrome caused by 13513G>A mutation was reported. The proband was the first child of his parents. The previously healthy boy presented with generalized epilepsy at 12 years of age. When he visited Peking University First Hospital at 13 years of age, he had subacute loss of vision in two eyes and temporal defect of visual field in the left eye. He walked with a spastic gait. His blood lactate and pyruvate levels were elevated. Muscle biopsy showed mild lipid accumulation in muscle fiber. An electrocardiogram showed incomplete right bundle branch block. Brain magnetic resonance imaging showed bilateral, symmetrical lesions in the basal ganglia, supporting the diagnosis of Leigh syndrome. 13513G>A mutation was identified by gene analysis in the patient, which led to mitochondrial respiratory chain complex I deficiency. Multivitamins and L-carnitine were administered. At present, the patient is 16 years old and has progressive deterioration with significant muscle weakness and body weight loss. He is absent from school. He has no obvious retardation in intelligence. 13513G>A mutation was first identified by gene analysis in Chinese population with Leigh syndrome. This may be helpful in genetic counseling.

10.Studies on factors influencing on ephedrine contents in Maxing Shigan decoction.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the factors influencing on the ephedrine contents in different compositions of Maxingshigan decoction.
METHODAdopt mixed uniform design to dismantle recipes, employ the stepping regression analysis to deal with experimental statistics, use the partial correlational analysis to analyze the correlation coefficients and the results were validated.
RESULTThe regressive equation was of significance, that is Y = 4.36719347 + 7.752707437X1 + 1.2557197041X3 (r = 0.85564, P = 0.0189). The main influencing factors on ephedrine content in Maxingshigan decoction were gypsum and amygdalin. The influent factor of amygdalin on ephedrine content had great significance, and gypsum had significance.
CONCLUSIONThe collective effects of amygdalin and gypsum affect the content of ephedrine in Maxing Shigan decoction which the content-effect relationship was in direct correlation.
