Traumatic intracranial lesion has been one of the most frequent and serous problem in neurosurgical pathology. CT made it possible to get prompt diagnosis and surgical intervention of intracranial lesions by its safety, fastiness and accuracy. Computed tomographic scan was carried out on 1309 cases at Soonchunhyang Chunan Hospitalfor 15 months from Oct. 1983 to Dec. 1984. We have reviewed the computed tomographic scans of 264 patients whichshowed traumatic intracranial lesion. The results were as follows: 1. Head trauma was the most frequentlydiagnosed disase using computed tomographic scans(57.8%), and among 264 cases the most frequent mode of injury wastraffic accident (73.9%). 2. Skull fracture was accompained in frequency of 69.7% and it was detected in CT in38.6%: depression fractue was more easily detected in 81%. 3. Countercoup lesion(9.5%) was usually accompained with temporal and occipital fracture, and it appeared in lower incidence among pediatric group. 4. Intracranial lesions of all 264 cases were generalized cerebral swelling(24.6%), subdural hematoma(22.3%), epiduralhematoma(20.8%), intracerebral hematoma(6.1%), and subarachnoid hemorrhage(3.0%). 5. The shape of hematoma wasusually biconvex(92.7%) in acute epidural hematoma and cresentic(100%) in acute subdural hematoma, but the morechronic the cases became, they showed planoconvex and biconvex shapes. 6. Extra-axial hematoma was getting decreased in density as time gone by. 7. Hematoma density was not in direct proportion to serum hemoglobin levelas single factor.

DSA(Digital Subtractin Angiography) is a valuable diagnostic imaging method in many clinical fields, includingranal-related conditons. Sixty four renal DSA examinations were performed in 59 patients with renal-relateddiseases from Jan. 1984 to Dec. 1985. Summary of these were as follows: 1. Intraarterial (IA)-DSA is performed in6 cases, intravenous(IV)-DSA in 58 cases. In 58 Examinations of IV-DSA, diagnostic image quality is obtained in 51cases(88%). 2. In investigations of a possible renovascular etiology of hypertension, IV-DSA,is a safe, sensitiveand accurate method. On screening for evaluation of renovascular hypertension, RSP should be replaced with IV-DSA,because IV-DSA is moe sensitive and accurate and can detect not only anatomic change of renal arttery but alsofunctional hemodynamic change. 3. IV-DSA is valuable in diseases with morphologic changes of vessels. Incharacterization of a known renal mass, and evaluation of hematuria, suspected aneurym and renal trauma, IV-DSA isvery useful diagnostic imaging modality. 4. In evaluation of potential renal donors, IV-DSA is an accurate andsafe method with 82.4% of accuracy. IV-DSA also is useful in follow-up of allograft recipients. 5. Ininvestigation of diabetic nephropathy, glomerulonephritis, pyelonephritis, IV-DSA is little helpful. 6. Theadvantages of DSA are well known, particularly post-procedure process using computer programs is helpful forobtaining informations of hemodynamic change or time-sequence-curve of density etc. More technical improvementwith this modality is required for improvement of the image quality and resolution. And more accumulation ofclinical experience is required in order to increase the diagnostic accuracy.

BACKGROUND: This study was done to identify factors that influence the willingness to be vaccinated with the human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine in female college students eligible for a catch-up vaccination program. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 572 female students aged 18-26 years attending one selected university in the Gyeongbuk Province. From March 2 to 6, 2009, they completed a self-administered questionnaire on their HPV vaccination status. Thereafter, unvaccinated participants were educated about the vaccination program, and each participant's willingness to be vaccinated was assessed. RESULTS: Of the 572 participants, 18 (3.1%) were already vaccinated with the HPV vaccine. The number of participants advised to be vaccinated was 102 (17.8%). Of the 554 unvaccinated participants, 305 (55.1%) were willing to be vaccinated after being educated about the vaccination program. Of the remaining 249 unvaccinated participants, 116 (48.7%) refused the vaccine due to its high cost. Advice by family members was related significantly to the willingness to be vaccinated (odds ratio, 2.37; 95% confidence interval, 1.09-5.14). CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study suggest that the willingness to be vaccinated with the HPV vaccine could be increased in female college students if they are advised to do so by their family members after being educated about the vaccination program.

PURPOSE: Localizing and differentiating a metastatic lesion of differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) by using radio?iodine whole body scan could be difficult because a whole body scan (WBS) lacks anatomic information. This study was performed to evaluate the usefulness of radio-iodine SPECT/CT for differentiating equivocal lesions. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Among 253 patients with DTC who had undergone radio-iodine scan between February and July 2006, 26 patients were enrolled (M:F = 8:18, Age 50.7 +/- 12.5 years) in this study. The patients had abnormal uptakes in the WBSs that necessitated precise anatomical localization for differentiating between a metastatic lesion and a false-positive lesion. SPECT/CT was performed for the region with abnormal uptake in the WBS. WBS and SPECT/CT were evaluated visually. Metastases were diagnosed based on the results of the radio-iodine scan along with the results of other radiological examinations and serological tests. RESULTS: Based on the WBS images, 13 were suspected with cervical lymph node (LN) metastases in 16 patients with abnormal neck uptake, and in the 11 patients with abnormal extra-cervical uptakes, extra-cervical metastases were doubtful in all. After SPECT/CT was performed, the diagnostic results were altered for 16 patients (62%). SPECT/CT revealed that only 5 patients had cervical LN metastases, while 3 patients had extra-cervical (mediastinal) LN metastases. Overall, there was a 58% (15/26) change in diagnoses and plans for treatment due to SPECT/CT. Among 8 patients suspected with metastases on SPECT/CT, 6 patients underwent another radio-iodine therapy. In 96% (24/25) of the patients, the results of SPECT/CT corresponded with those of further radiological examinations and with other clinical information. CONCLUSION: Radio-iodine SPECT/CT images permitted the differentiation of abnormal radio-iodine uptake and improved anatomical interpretation in DTC.

Little is known as to why elevated red cell distribution width (RDW) is associated with adverse clinical outcomes in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). We hypothesized that RDW value might predict the intensity of anticoagulation, resulting in higher adverse events in patients with AF taking warfarin. We analyzed 657 patients with non-valuvular AF who took warfarin. The intensity of anticoagulation was assessed as mean time in the therapeutic range (TTR) and defined TTR ≥60% as an optimal intensity. The primary end-point was the composite of stroke/systemic embolism and major bleeding. The secondary end-point was the composite of stroke/systemic embolism, major bleeding and death. The relationship between the baseline RDW with TTR and clinical outcomes was assessed using categorical variables as quartiles or dichotomous variables. The mean value of TTR decreased as an increment of the RDW (45.2% vs. 44.7% vs. 40.8% vs. 35.2%, p < 0.001). Primary and secondary end-points were significantly increased when TTR was less than 60% and RDW was more than 13.6%. Ratio of patients achieving optimal anticoagulation were significantly decreased as an increment of RDW. A RDW of ≥13.6% was a significant predictor for poor anticoagulation control (adjusted Odds ratio [OR] 0.43, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.23–0.82), stroke (adjusted hazard ratio [HR] 3.86, 95% CI 1.11–13.40), primary (adjusted HR 1.88, 95% CI 1.12–3.16) and secondary end-point (adjusted HR 2.46, 95% CI 1.26–4.81). RDW was negatively associated with TTR in patients with AF. Therefore, RDW might be a useful marker for the prediction of anticoagulation response and clinical outcomes in patients with AF.

Background: The mechanism of Brugada syndrome (BrS) is still unclear, with different researchers favoring either the repolarization or depolarization hypothesis. Prolonged longitudinal activation time has been verified in only a small number of human right ventricles (RVs). The purpose of the present study was to demonstrate RV conduction delays in BrS. Methods: The RV outflow tract (RVOT)-to-RV apex (RVA) and RVA-to-RVOT conduction times were measured by endocardial stimulation and mapping in 7 patients with BrS and 14 controls. Results: Patients with BrS had a longer PR interval (180 ± 12.6 vs. 142 ± 6.7 ms, P = 0.016). The RVA-to-RVOT conduction time was longer in the patients with BrS than in controls (stimulation at 600 ms, 107 ± 9.9 vs. 73 ± 3.4 ms, P= 0.001; stimulation at 500 ms, 104 ± 12.3 vs. 74 ± 4.2 ms, P = 0.037; stimulation at 400 ms, 107 ±12.2 vs. 73 ± 5.1 ms, P= 0.014). The RVOT-to-RVA conduction time was longer in the patients with BrS than in controls (stimulation at 500 ms, 95 ± 10.3 vs. 62 ± 4.1 ms, P= 0.007; stimulation at 400 ms, 94 ±11.2 vs. 64 ± 4.6 ms, P= 0.027). The difference in longitudinal conduction time was not significant when isoproterenol was administered. Conclusion The patients with BrS showed an RV longitudinal conduction delay obviously. These findings suggest that RV conduction delay might contribute to generate the BrS phenotype.
