Biliary atresia is a surgical disease of infancy with a very poor prognosis usually attributed to the rarity of surgically correctable case. This paper presents a case of incorrectable type of biliary atresia 50 days old Direan female infant who were subjected to the Modified Kasai Operation She had shown good bile excretion after surgery but developed recurrent fever, severe hypocalcemia and roentgenographically prover rickets during the follow up periods. She died 7 months after the operation.

It is well known fact that physical growth and development of children are influenced by many factors. The importance of socio-economic, geographic and cultural background cannot be over-emphasized in the evaluation of general pattern of physical growth and development of children. In this study the author measured and studied the body height and body weight of children living in the region of mine and industry located in Young-Wol Kun, Kang-Won Do, for the purpose of exploring out the influence of socio-geographic factors to act on physical growth and development of children. Total number of samples were 4,147 comprising 2,170 in male and 1,977 in female with ages ranging from 7 to 15. 1) The growth curves showed that young males grow slowly by 14 years of age, here-after rapidly and the young females grow slowly by 12 years of age, rapidly by 13 years of age and slowly thereafter. 2) The annual increment curves of body height and body weight showed that the most increment of female occurs by 13 years of age and that of mate, by 15 years of age. 3) The growth curves of the male and female crossed twice. It shows the difference of the pattern of growth between the both sexes. 4) The standards for the children in this region were presented. 5) The time of changes of stndard deviation curves of body height and body wegiht coincided nearly with that of annual increment. 6) Body weight and body height .of the children is larger than that of Korean children before World War II, but smaller than that of standards of recent Korean.

Background: Rosacea is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease, which primarily affects the central face. In 2002, the National Rosacea Society (NRS) committee developed the first diagnostic criteria for rosacea, based on its subtypes. The revised classification in 2017 prompted a proposal to transit from a subtyping to a phenotyping approach, reflecting current insights into rosacea pathogenesis, pathophysiology, and management. Objective: This study aimed to elucidate the clinical features of rosacea and compare two diagnostic criteria in rosacea patients. Methods: We performed a clinical study on 100 patients with rosacea diagnosed according to the 2002 NRS criteria. The age, sex, clinical features, subtypes, severity, and predisposing factors were evaluated using the questionnaire. In addition, we compared the 2002 and 2017 criteria, and evaluated patients if they met the revised criteria. Results: According to the 2002 NRS classification, the erythematotelangiectatic type (88.0%) was the most frequent, followed by the papulopustular (43.0%), ocular (13.0%), and phymatous (6.0%) types. There were 44 overlapping cases, including 38 cases with 2 subtypes mixed and 6 cases with three subtypes. Six patients were diagnosed with rosacea using the 2002 NRS criteria but they did not satisfy the revised 2017 criteria. Conclusion We found that the diagnostic features of the 2002 criteria are too ambiguous for the diagnosis of rosacea. Therefore, we recommend that dermatologists recognize the necessity of a transition from a subtyping to a phenotyping approach, according to the 2017 criteria for the diagnosis of rosacea.

Poroid hidradenoma (PH) is a rare benign tumor that shows differentiation of the eccrine sweat gland. It occurs mainly in adults, presenting as a 0.5 to 2 cm-sized intradermal nodule, mostly on the head, extremities, trunk and neck. We report two rare cases of PH, one on the face and the other on the heel. The first patient was a 50-year-old male who had a solitary, skin-colored nodule on his right temple for 6 months.The second patient was a 67-year-old female who presented with a solitary, bean-sized, tender nodule on her left heel for 1 year. The common histological examination finding was a well-circumscribed tumor composed of solid portions and large cystic spaces in the center. The tumor cells consisted of small, monomorphic poroid cells and large cuticular cells in both cases. To our knowledge, only few cases of PH have been reported. Herein, we report two rare cases of PHs with literature review

OBJECTIVE: This study was proposed to evaluate the electrophysiologic changes in central motor conduction and in silent period (SP) after paraspinal transcutaneous electrical stimulation near caudal area of the spinal cord. METHOD: Conditioning stimulation was applied to T12 paraspinal area for 20 minutes using interferential current therapy (80~100 Hz) in 11 healthy subjects. The amplitude and latency of central motor conduction and duration of SP were measured in motor evoked potential (MEPs) by using magnetic stimulator, before and after the conditioning stimulation. These variables were recorded in both tibialis anterior muscle, innervated from stimulated spinal area, and both abductor pollicis brevis, innervated from cervical cord not directly stimulated by electrical stimulation. RESULTS: After conditioning stimulation, the amplitudes of central motor conduction decreased (p<0.01), and the latencies did not change in both cervical and lumbar muscles in transcranial and spinal MEP studies, and the duration of SP was decreased in same manner (p<0.01). CONCLUSION: These results mean that the excitability of anterior horn cells decreases and the supraspinal inhibitory mechanism of the central motor conduction is suppressed by a certain conditioned electrical cutaneous stimulation in entire spinal cord.
