2.Multiple Epiphyseal Dysplasia: Report of 2 Cases

Two cases of multiple epiphyseal dysplasia in a 3 years old boy and a 10 years old girl are reported. Since Fairbanks description of the disease in 1935, it has been a well recognized entity which is a rare congenital developmental error characterized by mottling or irregularity in density and outline of several of the developing epiphyses, and dwarfism. Many reports indicate a definite hereditary and familiar distribution, particularly one series in which there were 10 cases in a single family, But in this report parent and siblings, all of whom were examined clinically, and roentgenographically showed no demonstrable stigmata of any growth disturbance. As the child develops, a subnormal growth rate becomes more obvious. The vertebrae are usually not affected so that dwarfing is confined to the extremity. The process rarely comes to attention of the physician until the child begin to walk, and then it is noted that one has a waddling gait and short stubby digits of the hands and feet. Intelligence is unaffected. Prognosis as to life expectancy and range of activity is good.

3.Screw Fixation for Fracture of the Femoral Head Combined with the Ipsilateral Dislocation of the Hip: A case report

The fracture of femoral head with concommittant hip dislocation is very rare and the choice of its treatment is still controversial. Various methods of treatment such as Judet prosthesis (Palin, 1954), mold arthroplasty (Lipscomb, 1958), Thompson endomedullary prosthesis (Burman, 1958), and bone peg fixation have been adopted without much success, but Sarmiento and Laird (1973) recently reported a case of femoral head fracture that was successfully treated with screw fixation of the fracture fragments. The authors present a case of femoral head fracture combined with dislocation of ipsilateral hip that was treated successfully by the Sarmientos screw fixation method. A two year follow-up indicated a normal hip function, restored without sequellae. The authors consider this method very valuable as a first step treatment.

4.A Case Report of Osteoid Osteoma in Lumbar Spine with Hamstring Muscle Tightness

5.One Case of Cerebral Embolism Associated with Paroxysmal Tachycardia in Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome.

One case of cerebral embolism developed during cessation of supraventricular tachycardia in Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome is reported with brief review. Twenty five years old, male was admitted to Seoul National University hospital with palpitation. He had numerous episodes of paroxysmal tachycardia for 3 years. He was diagnosed as Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome at this hospital, ca 6 months prior to admission. Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome was improved with atropine test at that time. The electrocardiogram on admission revealed Wolff-Parkinson-White synd rome associated with supraventricular tachycardia. He developed cerebral embolism after paroxysmal tachycardia of 22 days.

10.Easy Molding Technique of Methylmethacrylate Implant Using Plaster and Rapid Prototyping Model in Cranioplasty.

PURPOSE: Methylmethacrylate is the most commonly used alloplastic material in cranioplasty. However during the polymerization of methylmethacrylate, a significant exothermic reaction takes place. This reaction may result in thermal injury to the brain tissue and other soft tissues. Also it is difficult to make three-dimensional methylmethacrylate implant that is perfectly matched to the defect during the operation time. We report on the molding technique of methylmethacrylate implant using plaster mold and the rapid prototyping model in cranioplasty. METHODS: A 44-year-old male was referred to the department for severe frontal hollowness. He was involved in an automobile accident resulting in large frontal bone defect with irregular margin. The preformed patient-specific methylmethacrylate implant was made using plaster mold and the rapid prototyping model before the operative day. The methylmethacrylate implant was placed in the frontal defect and rigidly fixed with miniplates and screws on the operative day. RESULTS: The operation was performed in an hour. In the 6 months follow-up period, there were no complications. Patient was satisfied with the results of cranioplasty. CONCLUSION: Safe cranioplasty was performed with the preformed patient-specific methylmethacrylate implant using plaster mold and the rapid prototyping model. The result of this method was satisfactory, aesthetically and functionally.
