1.Two Cases of Left Atrial Myxoma.
Korean Circulation Journal 1991;21(3):620-625
Atrial myxomas are uncommon, but surgical treatment offers a potential cure. Early diagnosis is essential so that tumors can be promptly removed in order to reduce morbidity or mortality from atrioventricular valve dysfunction and embolic complications. They are intracavitary tumors occurring within any of the cardiac chambers, but they have a predilection for the atria, particulary the left atrium. The development of noninvasive, echocardiogaphic technique has made it possible to screen large numbers of patients with atrial myxoma with ease and safty. Recently the development of diagnostic procedure and cardiac surgery increased the accuracy of diagnosis and the opportunity of successful ereatment. We report the two cases of left artial myxomas which were removed successfully by surgery.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1981;19(2):183-191
During a 10-year period from Jan, 1970 to Dec. 1979, 33 cases of systemic lupus erythematosys were observed clinically at the Department of Dematology, Chonnam University Hospital. Statistieally, 13 cases were male and 20 chses firnale for a sex ratio of 1: l. 5. The most common age group at eatimated onset was 10-19 and the mean age was 27, 3. There were 5 cases under the age of 15 comprising 15. 2, of all cases. There was no seasonal variation at the onset of disease. Facial lesions were the most common initial sign or symptom and chief cornplaint. During the course of the illness, varions manifeatations were obaerved: artbralgia, 87. 9%; weakness and fatigue, 84. 8%; fever, 75. 8%; cutaneous lesions, 100. 0% gastrointestinal symptoms, 54. 5%; pulmonary symptoms, 42. 4%; cardiae abnomalities, 36. 4%; enlargement of reticuloendothelial systems, 30.3%; and neuropsychiatric symptom., 30. 3%. Upon laboratory analysis we found 14 cases of lupoid hepatitis and 8 cases of lupus nephritis. There were various associated diseases such as retinopathy, congestive heart failure, pulmonary tuberculosis, diabetes mellitus, etc.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1995;33(3):430-436
BACKGROUND: Ota's nevus is not an uncommon pigmenta y disorder in Asian people including Koreans. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to examine the clinical features of the patients and to determine the existince of any relevance between them. METHODS: We arrid out a retrospective study with cialreviews and phone interviews or direct examinatior. for clinical features of the lesions in acesible patients. RESULTS: The peak age of onset was at birth, pubertyed adolescence in decreasing order. The most frequen1,ly involved site was the eyelid, and the type I was the most common. Bluish black color was pie edorninant. The lesions which did not inili the eyelid or the lesions which developed after birtten were more likely to be light brown in cilc(p<0.05). CONCLUSION: The clrical features of Otas nevus were revwed and analyzed statistically.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1979;17(6):433-440
Epdemiological studies were done on 721 patients detected and confirmed as leprosy patients at the Department of Dermatology at Chonnam University Hospitai in the ten years period from l969 to 1978. Statistically, 491 cases were male and 230 cases were female, comprising 2. 1% of the total number of outpatients (34, 631) and showing a decreasing yearly tendency, The percentage of each group, or type; tuberculoid, borderline, lepromatous and indeterminate, was 53.8%, 9.6%, 31.2%, and 5.4%, respectively. The most common age at discovery for males was 30 39 and for female 20~29 with the largest group being adults aged 20~49, 482 cases (66.9%). The sex ratio was 2.1: l, male to female. However, for the tuberculoid types the ratio was 2.5: 1 which was higher than that of the lepromatous type, I. 7: 1, By disease type the most common age group was 20 29 for tubercekid type, 30 39 for lepromatous and borderline group and 10~19 for the indeterminated group. Geographically, 652 cases(90. 4%) were from Chonnam Province and 61 cases (8.5%) from Chonbuk Province. We also observed some significant sequential changes of the type of disease descovered even though 10 years is a relatively short period. There was a tendency towards decreased detection of the tuberculoid type and increased detection of the borderline an.d indeterminate group.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1986;24(4):469-479
We studied skin thickness of the twelve body sites in 25 post-mortem subjects. The most thinnest and thickest sites of the skin layers are as follows(unit: um) l. In the horny layer, eyelid(13.16+/-5.44) and sole(420.83+182. 25), respectively 2. In the granular, eyelid, posterior ear, abdomen, back, thigh, forearrn(1 layer)and sole(3.4+/-0.59 layers), respectively 3. In the prickle cell layer(to rete ridge), forearm(50. 21+/-15. 36) and sole (174.72+/-84.41), respectively 4. In the prickle cell layer(to papillary dermis), abdomen (33. 05+/-10. 28) and sole (106.13+/-73.62), respectively 5. In the epidermis, eyelid (61.60+/-16.53) and sole (972.00+/-228. 16), rpspectively 6. In the dermis, eyelid(878.08+283. 56) and back(3596.05+/-1306.80), respectively.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1989;27(5):572-576
Etretinate is a synthetic retinoic acid which has been reported effective in hyperkeratotic disorders. Recently, it has also been tried, on a limited number, for the treatment of viral wart. A 33-year-old male patient presented with multiple, tender, confluent, verrucous lesions on the scalp, both hands and feet of 4 years duration. Before coming to us, he had been treated with intralesional injection of bleomycin and electrodesiccation with little effect. We started etretinate therapy in a daily dose of 70mg(1mg /kg). After 3 weeks treatment, most of his skin lesions were flattened and softened: but an abrupt elevation of serum aminotransferases was noticed, which was normalized soon after cessation of medication. Unfortunately, the drug stop page aggravated most of skin lesions. After two weeks of withdrawal we started again the drug in a daily dose of 30mg and observed a good response without hepatic dysfunction.

The results of this study which had been investigated for the purpose of analyzing heavy metal concentrations in women's blood and urine, their correlation degree and significance of cadmium as indicator of accumulated heavy metals are as follows. 1) In blood, concentrations of Cd, Pb, Cu and Zn are respectively 0.0110+/-0.14 ug/ml, 0.208+/-138 ug/ml, 0.899+/-0.153 ug/ml and 5.432+/-1.020 ug/ml. 2) In urine, concentrations of Cd, Pb, Cu and Zn are respectively 0.003+/-0.12 ug/ml, 0.025+/-0.18 ug/ml, 0.013+/-0.12 ug/ml and 0.277+/-0.192 ug/ml. 3) Correlation coefficients between blood and urine are only significant in Zn (r=0.363, p<0.01). 4) In blood, correlation coefficients of Cd concentration and Pb, Zn are respectively 0.518 (p<0.01). 5) Correlation coefficients between Cd concentration in blood and Pb, Cu and Zn in urine are respectively r=-0.012, r=0.027, r=0.241 (p<0.05), and only Cd concentration and Zn is significant.
