We report a case of type IV hyperlipoproteinemia associated with xanthoma tuberosum and diabets mellitus in a 48 year old female patient. She had several yellowish-brown papules on the knees and palms. The blood glucose level was elevated and serum lipid and lipoprotein analysis revealed patterns of type IV hyperlipoproteinemia. Histopathologic findings of yellowish-brown papules on the knee showed the aggregation of foam cells in the dermis. She has been treated with diet control and hypolipidemic drug(lovastatin and procetofen) and is under our continuing supervision.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1994;32(5):920-925
Trichorhinophalangeal syndiome, a rare genetic disease, is characterzed by the triad of slow growing, brittle hair with early loss, a pear-shaped nose with bulbous tip and long philtrum, and coneshaped phalangeal epiphyses wiith resultant shortening and. deformity of hands and feet. A 24-year-old female visited our department for the evaluation of lalopecia. She had had sparse, thin, and brittle hair since birth. She also complained of short fingers ar d a pear-shaped nose with bulbous tip. The X-ray findings of her hands and feet showed cone-shaped epiphyses with shortening of the phalangeal bones. There was no family history of hair, nasal, or palnkoplantar phalangeal abnormality. Chromosomal study did not reveel any abnormal finding. Shortened phalangeal bones of her index and middle fingers were slightly improved by lengthening procedure with iIlizarov apparatus.

Korean Journal of Anesthesiology 1993;26(6):1148-1155
This project is based on the hypothesis that induced hyperthermia may prevent or treat the prolonged muscular relaxation caused by intraoperative hypothermia or by unknown origin. In some researches, one of the causes of postoperative respiratory depression is residual curarization which is usually resulted from hypothermia. But, there is no articles about the twiteh response in hyperthermia. The 10 mongrel dog with no muscular, renal or hepatic disease were classfied into 3 groups according to the type of muscle relaxants, atracurium group, pancuronium group and norcuron group. In each case, induced hyperthermia was applied on one side and normothermia was maintained on the other side. Muscular twitch response from the TOF stimulation was recorded. This experiment was repeated with tourniquet application in order to avoid the effect of systemic circulation. The muscular twitch response appeared faster in hyperthermia group than in normothermia group regardless of the type of muscle ralaxants. Now, therefore, we can utilize the results by inducing hyperthermia to treat and prevent the postoperative hypoxia caused by intraoperative hypothermia as well as excessive use or inade- quate reverse of muscle relaxants.

We report a case of subungual solitary glomus tumor in a 28-year-old female, who has suffered from pain and tenderness of the left 4th finger tip for about 5 years. Simple surgical excision was performed for removal of the tumor mass and for the relief of the subjective symptoms. No recurrence has been observed for 5 months following excision of the tumor.

We report a case of solitary congenital calcified nodule of the ear in a 1-year-old female. The lesion was a 2 X 2mm-sized, elevated, slightly erythematous and whitish-centered nodule located since birth on the superior helical rim of her left ear. Histopathological findings fram the totally excised lesion showed calcium deposits as amorphous, basophilic masses in the upper dermis and focal discharge of calcium by means of transepidermal elimination. Surrounding the calcium deposits, lymphohistiocytic infiltrations were present.

Annals of Dermatology 1999;11(4):255-259
Reticulohistiocytoma, a rare form of non-Langerhans cell histiocytoses, usually presents it-self as a single cutaneous nodule mainly on the head and neck of young men without associated arthritis. We describe an 18-year-old male patient with a red dome-shaped nodule of 2 months' duration on the scalp. Histologic examination of the excised mass revealed numerous large, mononucleated or multinucleated histiocytes with abundant eosinophilic, finely granular cytoplasm having a ground-glass appearance. Immunohistochemical staining was positive for vimentin, lysozyme, and factor XIIIa, supporting a dermal dendrocyte lineage. Ultrastructurally, large mononuclear or multinucleated cells exhibiting numerous peripheral villi contained pleomorphic cytoplasmic inclusions, fatty droplets and dense bodies. Our clinicopathologic findings support the concept that reticulohistiocytoma is a variant of adult xanthogranuloma.
