We report 2 cases who have been diagnosed as lipodystrophia centrifugalis abdominalis juvenilis. The case 1 is l2 year-old girl. She had well-defined depression of skin on both inguinal area, lower portion of chest and both flanks which was noticed at the age of 7. The case 2 is 16 year-old boy with depressed lesions on Rt. inguinal area and abdomen which were noticed at the age of 6. Biopsy specimen showed absence of subcutaneous fat tissue in both cases.

The present study was performed to evaluate the comedogenicity of several cosmetic ingredients, vegetable oils, steroid and sulfur. The test materials were applied to one ear canal of rabbits for 6 weekdays for 2 weeks. The results were as follows: l. Among the 14 cosmetic ingredients, no comedogenicity was shown in propylene glycol and petrolatum, mild comedogencity in squalene, acetylated lanolin, polyethylene glycol, cetyl aIcohol and Tween 80. Propylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfate and oleic acid showed moderate comedogenicity. Severe comedogenicity was observed in myristyl myristate, isopropyl myristate, butyl stearate and myristyl lactate. 2. Moderate to severe comedogenicity was shown in olive oil, sesame oil and corn oil and moderate comedogenicity in sulfur (8%) and betamethasone dipropionate (0.06%) R. Histopathologic grading were paralleled the findings of the naked eye.

Although percutaneous abscess drainage has become and accepted alternative from of therapy for selected patients with abscess, it is well known that there are several factors in the failure of adequate drainage such as pre-and post- procedural management, technique itself, various features of abscess, and selection and application of catheters. Among these factors, we made an experiment about drain efficacy of commonly used various catheters with different viscosities of water-glycerin solution under the two different pressure gradients. The experimental values of flow rate were lower than than the calculated values. An efficacy of experimental value was 4-14%. Because the inner diameter of fittings and stopcocks was usually smaller than the inner diameter of catheters, these factors also affected the drain efficacy. Finally, we though that it will be very helpful to the treatment of patients as well as to study about the catheter drainage, if the drain efficacy of individual catheters has been notified.

An oculogyric crisis which was resolved after intravenous injection of diazepam 10 mg developed in a 16-year-old girl after an oral dose of 400 mg of albendazole. Although ocular side effects of albendazole are rare, it can induce an alarming oculogyric crisis in some sensitive subjects. The mechanism of the oculogyric crisis is unclear.

Journal of Veterinary Science 2003;4(2):109-112
The expression of two intermediate filaments, nestin and vimentin, was studied in spinal cord injury (SCI) to elucidate their roles in the formation of glial scars. Rats were sacrificed 1, 4, and 7 days after induction of compression injury of the spinal cord using an aneurysm clip. The affected spinal cords were studied using antibodies against nestin and vimentin intermediate filaments. One day after spinal cord injury, some clusters of nestin-positive vessels were detected in the center of the injury, but few were seen in other cell types. Vimentin immunostaining was detected in some glial cells in the center and its level of immunoreactivity was enhanced in the ependymal cells of the central canal. On days 4 and 7 after spinal cord injury, astrocytes and some ependymal cells in the central canal were stained positively for nestin and increased expression of nestin was observed in vessels. Vimentin was detected in some macrophages and astrocytes in the lesions. Nestin was co-localized with glial fibrillary acidic protein in some glial cells in SCI. These findings imply that spinal cord cells in adult animals have embryonic capacity, and these cells are activated after injury, which in turn contributes to repair of spinal cord injury through formation of a glial scar.

Journal of the Korean Neurological Association 1999;17(5):761-763
Marchiafava-Bignami disease(MBD), characterized by the primary degeneration of the corpus callosum, is a rare complication of chronic alcoholism. Recently, a few cases of MBD with reversible neuro-imaging abnormalities were reported. A 58-year-old, chronic alcoholic man was admitted with mental change, dysarthria, and a seizure attack. A T2-weighted Brain magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated high signal intensities in the body and splenium of the corpus callosum, multiple white matter, and cortical gray matter. Treatment with a multiple vitamin complex resulted in a near complete recovery of neurological manifestation. A brain MRI obtained four weeks after admission revealed a dramatic resolution of previous imaging abnormalities. We report a case of Marchiafava-Bignami disease with reversible neuro-imaging abnormalities.

10.The Cervical Herniated Intervertebral Disc Presenting with False Localizing Thoracic Sensory Levels.

Journal of the Korean Neurological Association 1999;17(5):747-751
Symptoms of compressive cervical myelopathy classically include spasticity and weakness, predominantly involving the lower extremities. Sensory abnormalities are reportedly common in the upper extremities, but are often vague or misleading. The sensory findings are usually localized 2-3 spinal segments below the actual spinal cord compression. In our current series, 3 patients presented with progressive symptoms of weakness and hyperreflexia involving the lower extremities without upper extremity symptoms and with a distant thoracic sensory level ranging from T10 to T12. All 3 patients were eventually found to have a cervical herniated intervertebral disc. The direct physical effects of compression and vascular compromise in the central cervical cord compression may be responsible for the reported abnormality at a distinct thoracic sensory level. Failure to diagnose cervical myelopathy because of the presence of a thoracic sensory level can delay appropriate treatment or lead to incorrect therapy.
