Background: According to Globocan statistics in 2018, there were estimated 1.8 million cases of colorectal cancer and 881,000 deaths. The rate of colorectal cancer is tending to increase in people under 50 years old. According to the 2017 American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy guidelines, Colonoscopy every 5 years beginning 10 years before the age at diagnosis of the youngest affect interval or age 40, whichever is earlier; for those with a single first-degree relative with colorectal cancer in whom no significant neoplasia appears by age 60 years, physicians can offer expanding the interval between colonoscopies. Objectives: (1) T o describe clinical features, endoscopic images, histopathology of polyps and colorectal cancer of first-degree relatives with colorectal cancer. (2) To determine the relationship between risk polyps and colorectal cancer with some factors. Materials and method: Cross-sectional study analyzing all first-degree relatives aged ≥ 40 years or approximately 10 years younger than the age of the patient diagnosed with colorectal cancer undergoing colonoscopy at the Functional Examination Department, Gia Dinh People’s Hospital during the period from June 2019 to December 2019. Results: In 85 cases: The main features of endoscopy were: rectal polyps 47.3%, sizes < 5 mm 63.9%, multiple polyps 52.7%, sessile 91.7% and smooth surface 88.9%. Regarding histopathological characteristics: the proportion of adenomatous polyps and serrated polyps is nearly equal. Mild dysplasia accounts for the highest rate of 84.2%, high dysplasia accounting for 15.8%. There was 1 case of colorectal cancer, in the sigmoid colon, an ulcerative cancer. Factor related to colorectal polyps and colorectal cancer is age, other factors (gender, smoking, alcohol and abesity) didn’t relate. Conclusion: Our result shows that the majority of polyps are located in the rectum, adenomatous polyps and serrated polyps account for nearly equal proportions, there is a relationship between colon polyps and age, there is no relationship between colon polyps. with gender, smoking, alcohol and obesity.

Background: Vietnam is located in the endemic region of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, but no data of occult HBV infection was reported at present. Objectives: To investigate the prevalence of occult HBV infection in different ethnics of people and generations. Subjects and method: 80 voluteers with HbsAg negative from five different ethnics: Kinh, Tay, Mong, Giay and Dao in a Chino \ufffd?Vietnamses border province (Lao Cai) were enrolled in the study. After HBV-DNA was extracted, nested PCR of S gene and of Core-promoter/Pre-core region were used to detect HBV-DNA. Specifying nucleotide sequence was confirmed by direct sequencing. Results:The prevalence of occult HBV infection in population study was very high 73/80 (91,3%) by nested PCR of Core-promoter/Pre-core, significantly more sensitive than nested PCR of S gene (26,3%) (p<0,0001). The prevalence of occult HBV infection was notdifferent between ethnics of people or between children, adults. Conclusion: Occult HBV infection in Vietnamese is very common; however, nationwide further studies should be carried out to confirm this preliminary results and evaluate the impact of occult HBV infection in Vietnam.

Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Research 2012;4(3):165-167
Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is rare disorder due to C1-inhibitor deficiency (C1-INH) that are debilitating and may be life-threatening. HAE is a lack of consensus concerning diagnosis, therapy, and management, particularly in Vietnam. In this case report, we report a 40-year-old male patient with typical clinical symptoms and family history but he showed normal C4 level, and we could not measure C1q and C1-INH level. However, the diagnosis of HAE can be made based on typical clinical symptoms and the favorable prophylactic response to danazol treatment. Based on these findings, we suggest that he has type I HAE, although he showed normal C4 level.

Ischemic colitis (IC) is an underreported chronic disease characterized by the hypoperfusion of the bowel mucosa. The diagnosis and treatment may be challenging because its clinical course resembles other colitis or even colorectal malignancies. This paper reports an untypical case to underline the diversity of IC manifestation. A 68-year-old man with several comorbidities was admitted because of abdominal pain with a 6-month duration and a mass in the left lower quadrant. Colonoscopy revealed erosive pseudomembranous colitis narrowed colon segments with ulcerated mucosa mimicking colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. The stool cultures and Clostridium difficile toxin tests were negative. After the failure of conservative therapy, the Hartmann procedure with temporary ileostomy was performed uneventfully. The histological results of the surgical specimens revealed IC with focal pseudomembranous areas.

Background: Hepatitis B is an infectious illness caused by hepatitis B virus (HBV) which infects the liver of hominoidea, including humans, and causes an inflammation called hepatitis. Objectives: The aim of study is to clarify clinical features and molecular characteristics of HBV in chronic HBV-infected patients with A 1899 mutation. Subjects and method: HBV genotype, HBV-ONA level, HBeAg and anti-HBe in 29 chronic HBV-infected patients were determined by PCR-RFLP, Real-time PCR and ELISA, respectively. Mutations were analyzed by direct sequencing. Results: Mutations in core-promoter/precore regions of HBV genome can suppress HBeAg secretion and stimulate HBV-ONA replication. The prevalence of hepatocel- lular carcinoma (HCc): 10/29, liver cirrhosis (LC) : 15/29 are significantly higher than that in chronic hepatitis (CH) : 4/29 (P < 0.001). HbeAg seroconversion rate in CH (75%) is higher than that in HCC \r\n', u'(40%) and in LC (53.3%), but not significant (P > 0.05). ALT level is the highest in CH and the lowest in HCC \r\n', u'(P = 0.02), 8/10 (80%) HCC patients have normal range of ALT. HBV-ONA level in HCC and in LC is significantly higher than that in CH (P = 0.024). The emerging of A 1899 is often accompanied by C/G1753 mutation (37.9%) and dual core-promoter mutation T1762A1764 (79.3%). Conclusion: A1899 mutation can play a role in the pathogenesis of liver diseases in chronic HBV-infected Vietnamese.\r\n', u'

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common primary hepatic tumor and one of the most common cancers worldwide. HCC is a primary malignancy of hepatocellular origin. Objectives:The aim of study is to combinate therapy of transarterial chemoembolization and percutaneousethanol injection afterward emerging metatasis caused by fine needle aspiration cytology. Subjects and method: A 50 years old male patient with hepatocellular carcinoma having a diameter of tumor more than 5 cm was treated by combination of transarterial chemoembolization and percutaneous ethanol injection from December 2000. Results & Conclusion: Results of study showed that: Transarterial chemoembolization and percutaneous ethanol injection are the two of non-surgical methods for treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma which are most commonly available in applied clinical activities at present. Up to now, the patient's life expectancy after therapy is more than 6 years that means the result of treatment is very good. However, the emerging metatasis into the anterior-right-Iower chest wall that was caused by fine needle aspiration cytology should be reviewed for further evaluating clinical experience, especially in cases with quite clear imaging features of untrasonography and significantly elevated AFP level higher than 200 ng/rnl.

Background: Streptococcus pneumonia (S.pneumoniae) is the main cause of acquired pneumonia in the community along with otitis media, sinusitis, septicemia and meningitis. Objectives: The study determined antimicrobial resistance and serotype distribution of Streptococcus pneumonia isolates from hospitalized children at Hai Phong Children's Hospital, Vietnam. Subjects and method: From June 2006 to September 2007, 80 pneumococccal isolates were tested for susceptibility to the 13 antibiotics and 84 pneumococcal isolates were serotyped. Results:Seventy-five percent of strains showed multi-drug resistance. Ninety percent of strains showed resistance to penicillin (48% intermediate and 42% fully resistant). In addition, 100% of isolates were resistant to cotrimoxazole, 74% of isolates were resistant to cephalexin; 71 % of isolates were resistant to erythroomycin and 58% were resistant to cefuroxxime. Almost all the isolates were susceptible to amoxicillin, cefotaxime, ceftriaxone, ceefepime, ofloxacin and 100% of isolates were susceptible to vancomycin. Among the 84 serotypes, 82% were included in the 23 valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine including: 19F (30%), 23F (21 %), 14 (13%) and 6B (13%). Six other serotypes (13, 15C, 18, 11A, 15B and 6A) accounted for 12% of strains and 9 (11%) strains were untypeable. Conclusion: Pneumococcal antibiotics is spreading most rapidly among children in Vietnam, especially strains typs 19F and 23 F. Concerted efforts are necessary to prevent it spreading.\r\n", u'\r\n', u'

The Korean Journal of Parasitology 2019;57(1):43-47
Anaplasma marginale and A. platys were detected and characterized (16S rDNA sequence analysis) from dairy and indigenous cattle, and the latter in domestic dogs in Vietnam. A phylogenetic tree was inferred from 26 representative strains/species of Anaplasma spp. including 10 new sequences from Vietnam. Seven of our Vietnamese sequences fell into the clade of A. marginale and 3 into A. platys, with strong nodal support of 99 and 90%, respectively. Low genetic distances (0.2–0.4%) within each species supported the identification. Anaplasma platys is able to infect humans. Our discovery of this species in cattle and domestic dogs raises considerable concern about zoonotic transmission in Vietnam. Further systematic investigations are needed to gain data for Anaplasma spp. and members of Anaplasmataceae in animal hosts, vectors and humans across Vietnam.
