2.Study on the impacts of health care costs on poor people

Analyze secondary data from the Vietnam National Health Survey 2001-2002 and some related available data in order to assess the burden of health care costs for the households in 5 levels of living and this impact on the use of healthcare services of the poor and near poor households, focused on inpatient healthcare costs. Results: healthcare costs accounted for 22.8% and 24% of total non-food expenditures per capita annually in the poor and near poor groups, respectively. Healthcare costs accounted for 8% of income per capita in the poorest group. High healthcare costs were associated significantly with lower level of health care utilization of the poor and near poor. Economic shock due to high health expenditures was the common reason for people falling under poverty line, especially for the near poor

3.Enteroviruses isolated in patients with acute respiratory infections

In 2004, 185 specimens of patients with acute respiratory illnesses that were tested negative to influenza viruses were isolated to determine enteroviruses. The results showed that 10.8% were positive with enteroviruses. These isolated enteroviruses consist of 13 Coxsackievirus B, 1 Echovirus, 1 Poliosabin type 1, and 5 untyped Enteroviruses. The result also showed that 8.1% of isolated viruses were Adenoviruses

4.HIV infection combine with HCV infection and syphilis in harlot at Loc Ha Camp

An investigation was conducted at Loc Ha dignity restoration center, 400 newly admitted prostitutes into the center undewent serum examination at the Preventive Medicine Centre, ELISA assay at Military Hospital 108, RPR technique at the Hanoi Venero-Dermatology Centre from June to Demcember 2000. Results showed an incidence of HIV of 13%, HCV of 26.3%, syphylis 7.4%. The risk of HIV infection on the subjects with HCV(+), syphylis(+), the drug intravenous users, the subjects of HCV(+)/HIV(+) was higher by 75% than those of HCV(+)/HIV(+) 19.5%.

5.To evaluate the efficacy of transfusion of white blood granulocyte mass for treating severe burn with bacterial infection and intoxication associated with leucopenia

83 burn patients with the syndrome of bacterial infection and intoxication associated with leucopenia were divided in to 2 groups, the one of 32 patients without transfusion of white blood granulocyte, the other 51 patients with a transfusion rich with neutrophile leucocyte. Results: In the group of the syndrome of severe bacterial infection and intoxication associated with leucopenia, 39.2% have had complication, less than no transfusion group (68.7%). Mortality of the transfusion group: 82.4%, is higher than no transfusion group: 40.6%

6.Hygien status in factories to product and preserve available fresh food

384 samples of fresh food from 3 factories in Ha Noi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh city were controlled from Oct 2001 to April 2002. The temperature of preserve, duration of the processing, the pollution … were surveyed. Results noted the relatively good material conditions of the factories, but 100% of the staff had not got the hygiene standard and the preserve was not appropriate, the oscillation of temperature was higher than the displayed temperature in thermometer. 7.To monitor using of color materials in available foods in Ha Noi and Hai Phong city

In 1998, 186 samples in Hanoi and 154 samples in Hai Phong city of 13 kinds of retail color processed foods were examined. Survey the knowledge of hygiene and safe food of 60 consumers and sellers in Hanoi and 100 consumers and sellers in Hai Phong city. Results: the rate of using unrecommended coloring in Hanoi was 43.4%, and in Hai Phong was 39.5%. 89.3%-100% of retail coloring packages in markets were illegal. 8.Study on the acute and subchronic toxicity of “Sinh tinh thang” remedy

Sinh Tinh Thang, a traditional medicine formed by “Tu Quan Tu thang” and “Bat vi que phu thang” which is used for treating spermatogenesis insuffiency, has been determined with acute and subchronic toxicity on mice and rabbit. On rabbit, the dose of 12.5g/kg body weight (more than 15 times of clinical dose) did not influence on hematological indices and on liver and kidney function. DL50 could not determined in mouse.

9.Hormone residues in some domestic food stuffs of livestock origin

From June 2001 to August 2002, 210 samples of fresh meat (including 100 samples of pork and 110 samples of chicken) were tested for steroid hormone residues (testosterol, oestrogen, and diethyl stybestrol). Results showed that 8.5% of samples contained hormone residues, in which, 72% contained oestrogen, 28% contained testosterol, and 11 samples (5.2%) contained diethyl stybestrol - these hormone were forbidden for use in cattle and poultry breeding

Some achievements of preventive medicine were studied and analysed on 30 Centers of preventive medicine in whole country. The prevalence of some diseases were reduced considerably: measle 37 times, pertussis 102 times, the mortality of diarrhoea reduced by 17 times, neonatal tetanus 6 times, polyomyelitis 9 times. 40 24% of the staff working day were mobilized for struggle against epidemy. Waters, foods, enviromental samples were collected and controlled with a lack of equipment interms of variety and quantity. The salary and subsidy were rather low
