The hemangioma of bone is a benign lesion that slowly resorbs bones and is defined as a hamartoma. It develops frequently in vertebrae and skull and rare in short tubular bone. A case which occurred in calcaneus is reported here. The patient is 20 year old volley ball player. She had been suffered from intermittent dull pain on left heel and slight swelling for one month. X-ray showed well circumscribed an oat sized radiolucent lesion. Radical curettage and chip bone graft was performed. Pathology confirmed capillary hemangioma by histological examination. At post-operative 3rd month, grafted bone appeared well homogenized with host bone and no pain was complained in daily life.

2 cases of Sprengel s deformity are presented as the first report of the country. This relatively uncommon congenital deformity was found not only scapula involved but also the adjacent spine and ribs as well. Even the patients are adult surgical intervention was tried because the disability was prominent with high scapula, and good range of the shoulder joint motions is restored.

A case of osteochondrodystrophy is reported, involving many joints of upper and lower extremities. These affections exhibit valgus-flexion deformity of both elbows, extruding distal ulnar end at the wrist and brachiophalangism of both hands, manly thumb and index finger. Varus deformity of left ankle and brachio-phalangism of both feet were also demonstrable. Thorough radiological and histological examination were carried out. Initial treatment was the resection of distal end of ulna, promoting the correction of the deformity and better wrist motion. Some reviews with literatures are supplemented.

Authors had experienced in 30 operations for advanced rheumatoid arthritis. A suruey is carried out with analysis of operation result (Excellent 4 cases, Good 13 cases, Fair 7 cases and Poor 6 cases) in regard to pre-operative contracture of joint. X-ray findings and findings on operating table. Operative finding namely the extent of tissue involvement of the joint is found to be closely related with the final results Some details and important points of treatment are emphasized with reference reviews.

During s period of rapid growth in adolescence, weakening of the epiphyseal plate and shearing stress of incumbent body weight may cause the femoral head to become displaced from its normal relation to the femoral neck. Slipped upper femoral epiphysis was firstly described by Ambrose Pare in 1572, and many cases have been reported in Europe and America, and extremely rare in Korea. This particular case is a 15-year-old boy. Slipping was evident on the initial X-ray taken at a local provincial hospital approximately 1 year prior to come to this hospital. Owing to the capital epiphysis subluxated with coxa magna deformity, we performed Herndons operation as the first step of treatment. And schedule to do subtrochanteric wedge osteotomy for correction of residual deformity on right hip later on. Varization of left hip is also considered.

It is well known that early diagnosis and early treatment is very important for the patient with congenital dislocation of the hip joint to have favorable function in the whole life. The goal of treatment is to replace the hip restored in containment with anatomical position. There have been various treatments in both conservative and surgical methods. In the past, conservative treatment has been prevalled, and since Salter has advocated innominate osteotomy, this surgical method could be successively replaced the treatment of congenital dislocation of the hip in the older age group. We have experienced 40 congenital dislocation of the hips out of 35 patients at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in National Medical Center. Clinical analysis has been performed, with average 3 years and 9 months follow-up study and the resuits are as follows. 1. Majority of the case was treated primarily at age between 12-24 months. 2. The preponderence of girl to boys was 33:2. 3. The affection ratio of left to right side was nearly equal as 16:14. Five out of 35 cases were involved at both sides. 4. The chief complaints were almost limping and limb shortening. 5. In 40 hips from 35 patients, 12 hips were treated by closed reduction, 3 hips by open reduction and 18 hips by Salters innominate osteotomy in the age group under 7 years old. By Seddon's classification, we obtained 11 excellent and good results out of 12 cases treated by closed reduction, 2 out of 3 hips by open reduction and 15 out of 18 hips by Saiters innominate osteotomy. 6. We performed femoral derotation osteotomy in 2 cases, 9 and 11-year-old patients. Steels operation with femoral shortening in 9-year-old girl and bilateral THR on 2 hips in 44-year-old patient. Result of derotation osteotomy belonged to clinical failure and THR belonged to excellent group by Seddons classification. 7. We experienced one case of avascular necrosis transiently, but finally healed delaying weight bearing.

The osteochondroma is the most common benign bone tumor, of which the typical form is a cartilage-capped bony projection, far often found at the metaphysis of the long tubular bones, and may arise from any bone preformed in cartilage. To our knowledge, however, osteochondroma of accessory bones has not been reported, but we experienced a rare case of osteochondroma located in the position normally occupied by a tarsal accessory bone(Os Tibiale Externum). The mass was treated by excisioa and it discloeed typical microscopic findings of ostechondroma as shown in the pictures.

Injuries involving epiphyseal plate is important because of special problems in diagnosis, management and tl later complications of serious disturbance of growth which may be predictable and preventable. We revieviewed 40 cases of epiphyseal injuried in 35 patients, managed at Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Nation Medical Center from Jan. 1975 to Dec. 1981. The longest follow up was 4 ywars and 6 months and the shortest, year, the average being 2 years. The results were as follows: 1. The incidence of epiphyseal injuries was 35 patients in 211 patients of padiat.c fractures. 2. There were 29 males and 6 females. 3. The causes were falling down accident, slipping down accident, impinging injury, direct blow and traff accident in order 4. Roentgenographically, 23 cases were Type II of Salter & Harris classification, 8 cases were Type IV, cases were Type I, 2 cases were Type III, and 1 case was Type V. 5. Epiphyseal Injuries were found with order of decreasing frequency of distal radius, distal humerus, dist femur, phalanges, distal tibia, proximal humerus, distal fibula and proximal humerus. 6. The methods of treatment were C/R & 'cast immobilization, C/R & K-wire fixation, 0/R & K-wire fixation and C/R & screw fixation. 7. Complications were found in 2 cases of angular deformity in Type IV injury, 1 case of shortening in Type injury, and 1 case of angular deformity in Type V injury.

Unstable Colles' fractures have an inherent capacity for loss of reduction or shortening, or both. The istability can be recognized by the presence of much comminution, severe dorsal angulation(20 degrees or more), or extensive intra-articular involvement. It is difficult to align the fracture fragments and to maintain the reduction. In twenty-nine patients with unstable Colles' fracture from Jan. 1982 to Mar. 1984, several invasive methods were used. The results were as follows: 1. Among 147 patients with Colles' fractures 29 patients(19.7%) had unstable fractures. 2. Colles' fracture was occurred more frequently in women(77%) and in 6th and 7th decades(56%). Unstable fractures showed no significant age and sex related propencity. 3. Mechanism of injury caused unstable Colles' fractures were fall on the outstretched hand(25 patients), traffic accident(3 patients) and crushing injury(1 patient). Open fractures were shown in 4 patients among the unstable fractures. 4. Most of the unstable fractures were comprised of type VII and VIII(49%) but type I and II fractures with marked comminution or displacement also showed instability. 5. Complications were such as, redisplacement of the fractures, temporary neuropathy of the median nerve, compartment syndrome, Sudeck's atrophy, and shoulder-hand syndrome. 6. Overall assessments showed excellent in 4 patients, good in 16 patients, fair in 7 patients and poor in 2 patients. 7. Overall results were mainly correlated with initial severity of the injury and anatomical restoration of the fractures.
