Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1995;32(2):331-336
PURPOSE: To evaluate differential points of clustered microcalcification in malignant and benign lesions on histopathology and correlate with mammographic findings. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Authors evaluated differential points of malignant and benign calcifications in histopathologically confirmed 24 cases. In two patients, mapping studies and paraffin block mammographic examinations were done to correlate calcification on mammography with histopathologic morphology. RESULT: On histopathology, malignant calcifications were located in ductal lumen, while benign ones were usually located in ductal epithelium(p<0.05). However, associated three benign lesions of the 10 malignant lesions showed still benign calcifications adjacent to proven cancer. The typical malignant calcifications were the shape of lamination, while benign calcifications showed granular and salty on light microscope. In 2 mapping studies, malignant-looking calcifications within the area of predominant benign calcifications yielded atypical ductal hyperplasia. Mammographic pepper, granular, punctate, salty and S-shaped calcifications were correlated with granular and salty calcification on light microscope. Mammographic linear, branching, comma, tadpole and wormiform calcifications were correlated with histopathologic laminated calcification. CONCLUSION: Authors have recognized about characteristics of malignant Vs. benign clustered microcalcifications on histopathology. Authors concluded that if malignant-looking calcification such as linear, branching, comma, tadpole and wormiform are present in an are a of predominant benign calcifications, specimen radiographic correlation and mapping study will be necessary for better demonstration of the atypical ductal hyperplasia, hidden or associated breast cancer.

Journal of the Korean Society of Emergency Medicine 2007;18(5):399-405
PURPOSE: Recently, the bispectral index monitor has been promoted as an objective measure of sedation depth during pediatric procedural sedation in the emergency department (ED). However, rectal administration of thiopental sodium for pediatric procedural sedation has not been validated. METHODS: Patients aged one to seven years and undergoing primary closure procedures for simple facial and hand laceration in the ED were enrolled. Procedural sedation was performed by rectal administration of thiopental sodium. The bispectral index score and the Ramsay Sedation Scale were recorded every 10 minutes during sedation. The investigator and treating physician were blinded to bispectral index scores, which were later correlated with the Ramsay Sedation Scales values. Receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curves were conducted to determine the ability of the bispectral index score to discriminate various thresholds of sedation depth. RESULTS: One hundred thirty paired measurements were obtained from 12 patients. The Spearman's correlation coefficient for paired measurements, was -0.906 (95% confidence interval: [-9.8] ~ [-8.1], p<0.001). ROC curve analysis demonstrated a high discriminatory power for bi-spectral index scores in predicting the level of sedation, with areas under the curve at least 0.95 for all Ramsay Sedation Scale thresholds. CONCLUSION: Bispectral index monitoring can serve as a useful, objective measure of sedation depth in pediatric procedural sedation with rectal administration of thiopental sodium in the ED.

Korean Journal of Anesthesiology 2009;56(2):195-199
Perioperative hypothermia can occur frequently and lead to various complications. Laparoscopic procedures do not require a large incision or exposure of the viscera, but a prolonged and high pressure procedure can lead to unexpected hypothermia. Hypothermia prolongs the time-course of non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agents by reducing the plasma clearance significantly. Rocuronium, a new aminosteroidal neuromuscular blocking agent, can be influenced by reductions in plasma clearance and prolong the duration of action. Therefore, patients must receive ventilator care in the ICU. Aggressive measures were taken for hypothermia, and the patient was discharged without any complications. We report a case of delayed of neuromuscular blockade by rocuronium in a hypothermic patient during a laparoscopic procedure with a brief review of literatures.

Journal of the Korean Surgical Society 2000;59(1):39-45
PURPOSE: To evaluate of the role in carcinogenesis of p53 over-expression and bcl-2 inhibition in early gastric and advanced gastric cancers, we investigated the immunohistochemical tissue status of 31 primary early gastric-cancer patients and 31 primary advanced gastric-cancer patients. METHODS: DO7, the monoclonal antiserum to the P53 protein, and clone 124, the monoclonal antibody to the bcl-2 protein, were used for the immunohistochemical analysis of the 31 surgically resected primary early gastric cancer specimens and the 31 surgically resected advanced gastric-cancer specimens. The expressions were scored and divided into negative, positive, low expression, and overexpression. RESULTS: The clinicopathologic parameter; tumor depth of invasion, histologic type, and differentiation, were not related with the expression status of p53 or bcl-2. Of the 31 primary early gastric-cancer patients, 14 exhibited p53 overexpression and 16 showed negative the bcl-2 expression; 5 cases had both p53 overexpression and negative bcl-2 expression. Of the 31 advanced gastric cancer patients, 19 showed the p53 overexpression, and negative bcl-2 expression, 15 exhibited both p53 overexpression and negative bcl-2 expression. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that cell cycle alteration and apoptosis control by p53 and bcl-2 may play roles in the carcinogenesis of gastric cancer. However, there are many other mediators that may facilitate carcinogenesis. This study proved that bcl-2 is a valuable prognostic factor.

Journal of Korean Medical Science 2020;35(46):e415-
Background:
The transmission mode of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 is primarily known as droplet transmission. However, a recent argument has emerged about the possibility of airborne transmission. On June 17, there was a coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak in Korea associated with long distance droplet transmission.
Methods:
The epidemiological investigation was implemented based on personal interviews and data collection on closed-circuit television images, and cell phone location data. The epidemic investigation support system developed by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency was used for contact tracing. At the restaurant considered the site of exposure, air flow direction and velocity, distances between cases, and movement of visitors were investigated.
Results:
A total of 3 cases were identified in this outbreak, and maximum air flow velocity of 1.2 m/s was measured between the infector and infectee in a restaurant equipped with ceiling-type air conditioners. The index case was infected at a 6.5 m away from the infector and 5 minutes exposure without any direct or indirect contact.
Conclusion
Droplet transmission can occur at a distance greater than 2 m if there is direct air flow from an infected person. Therefore, updated guidelines involving prevention, contact tracing, and quarantine for COVID-19 are required for control of this highly contagious disease.

In this study, a fungal strain KNUF-22-025 belonging to the genus Botryotrichum was isolated from the soil in Korea. The cultural and morphological characteristics of this strain differed from those of closely related species. On malt extract agar, strain KNUF-22-025 showed slower growth than most of the related species, except B. domesticum. The conidia size (9.6– 21.1 Â 9.9–18.4 mm) of strain KNUF-22-025 was larger than those of B. piluliferum, B. domesticum, and B. peruvianum but smaller than those of B. atrogriseum and B. iranicum. Conidiophores in strain KNUF-22-025 (137 mm) were longer than those in other closely related species but shorter than those in B. atrogriseum. Multi-locus analysis of molecular markers, such as ITS, 28S ribosomal DNA, RBP2, and TUB2 revealed that strain KNUF-22-025 was distinct from other Botryotrichum species. Thus, this strain is proposed as a novel species based on morphological characteristics along with molecular phylogeny and named Botryotrichum luteum sp. nov.
